Brilliant.

Katisha · 27/07/2010 19:10

Have met BC. He is very charismatic.

Agree that the female copper was the weakest link.

AMumInScotland · 27/07/2010 19:16

It was good fun. I hope they don't gloss over the drug issue, but I don't think they're going to - they already had the drugs bust where SHs reaction made it clear they could have found something. Plus the cabbie (on info from Moriarty?) made a comment about SH being "still an addict".

Overall I enjoyed it, though DS and I were both shouting "it's a cabbie!" long before the "genius" worked that one out!

Booboobedoo · 27/07/2010 19:27

Can't believe there's anyone who doesn't like Martin Freeman!

I remember seeing him in Much Ado About Nothing (when he was in his teens), and he was fantastic.

Glad he's got something meaty to do.

Agree that Benedict Cumberbatch would be a great Dr Who.

diddl · 27/07/2010 19:28

"Have met BC. He is very charismatic."

PosieParker · 27/07/2010 20:05

Booboobedo...I said the same to my DH about Martin Freeman, that it's about time he was in something good! I really liked him in it.

PosieParker · 27/07/2010 20:09

Longtalljosie...I loved 'The Princess Bride'.

staranise · 27/07/2010 20:25

I wondered whether they were referencing the 'Princess Bride' as well! In-con-cei-vable!

Agree it was a relief to watch something about murder that didn't feature a gruesome death scene/autopsy etc.

serenity · 27/07/2010 20:40

More likely Princess Bride (awesome film) borrowed it from SH than the other way round.

Pills were in the original "A Study in Scarlet" It's interesting to read the précis just to see what was referenced in the show

GrendelsMum · 27/07/2010 22:01

I just listened to the Radio 7 adaptation of A Study in Scarlet last week - really well done. I enjoyed this too.

I thought that since they flipped the 'Rache' clue on its head, that meant that it couldn't be the cab driver - so I was shouting 'it's the cab driver! no, that's too obvious! it's the passenger!' at the screen.

In the original, it's a complicated revenge plot - there's one man, murdered by the cab driver in the bizarre game of two pills, because the victim had abducted the murder's fiance and killed his fiance's father in law.

OnEdge · 27/07/2010 23:18

I am the only person in the whole world who didn't get the cab driver. When I realised, I jumped and grabbed DH who rolled his eyes

milliemummy I agree Rupert Graves is brilliant and underated. He did an oral sex scene in Charles II and i always get a bit distracted now when I watch him

It was really really good and actually made me laugh out loud about 6 times which is very unusual on TV.

I thought the script was almost poetic, or rythmic or something.

OnEdge · 27/07/2010 23:20

Can i just add that SH made me laugh out loud, not the oral sex scene

jooseyfruit · 28/07/2010 07:02

the people that he killed took 2 pills (both) so ?taxi driver was never going to take one. He must have forced them at gun point

TartyMcFarty · 28/07/2010 08:21

"Far too many irrelevant red-herrings (the 'other woman' of the first victim for example)."

"I think that must just have been a device to make it clear he was getting into a taxi."

Still not convinced. Could have been his wife he called, or a colleague who he wasn't romantically involved with. Could have been interesting with more investigation of possible motives, but as it was just annoyingly unfulfilling.

Here's hoping for better from part 2!

JackieNo · 28/07/2010 08:33

Snippet on the Guardian website, but referring to a story from the Sun, says BC turned down the part of Doctor Who. Wonder if that's true.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 28/07/2010 16:44

I thought it was more likely that SM had seen him for DW, not cast him, but cast him in SH off the back of it. After all, auditioning for the Doctor is a pretty big deal. You get approached to do it and then you have a series of clandestine auditions in mystery locations. Everyone knows what's involved in the job. I can't see anyone going through the whole process and then turning it down.

noeyedear · 30/07/2010 19:09

Apparently Matt Smith was cast as dctor who on the back of his audition for Watson. SH had already been cast at the time.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/07/2010 19:29

Didn't get round to watching this until last night - loved it! Had also spotted the taxi driver thing, although I am sure the audience were intended to pick it up and then yell at the screen until SH realised what was going on.

Also loving Rupert Graves, christ he is sexy

CJCregg · 31/07/2010 23:23

Rupert Graves is actually the only reason I'm watching (don't tell DP).

He gets sexier with age. Please don't tell me he's gay, it will break my heart. I've had a crush on him since the '80s.

sharbie · 01/08/2010 00:36

loved it v v dr who ish.I can see BC as the dr.shame about the story line though far too many plot holes - shame when everything else was so good.maybe this weeks will be better.

thegirlwiththemouseyhair · 01/08/2010 17:32

Watched it last night - LOVED it!
So SO fun
Witty, clever, pacey.
Loved the Mycroft twist.
Obvious similarities with DW in the "I think differently to other people and don't get that you don't get me " thing that they had in common - a man living in his own universe.
But laughed out loud several times:
Mrs Hudson "I'm not your housekeeper, I'm your landlady."
SH 'I'm not a psychopath, I'm a high functioning sociopath.."

Can't wait for more!

DinahRod · 01/08/2010 20:17

On earlier tonight at 8.30pm BBC1

VoidofDiscovery · 01/08/2010 20:24

Oh can't wait, so what if the plot isn't great the whole on screen chemistry is great. BC is so charismatic, doesn't matter what he does really, love:..'I,m a high functioning sociopath.'

DinahRod · 01/08/2010 20:36

on now

Raahh · 01/08/2010 20:41
