OP posts:
taffetacatski · 26/07/2010 20:51

really enjoyed it. love Dr Who and saw the MS and BC similarities as soon as he started going off on one

esp enjoyed the text on screen and the split screen stuff gave a contemporary stylish feel

have to take laptop on hols now this week for iplayer so don't miss next 2 eps

Steven Moffat the driving force behind Cardiff then and not Russell TD?

DaisySteiner · 26/07/2010 21:00

Really enjoyed it. The circusy-type music playing throughout has been bugging me though - it really reminded me of something else, but I can't think what! Any ideas?!

clangermum · 26/07/2010 21:21

Did anyone catch or understand a weird comment near the end about judging a Chinese restaurant by the handle?

sugar2spice · 26/07/2010 21:21

Thought it was quite good, could have been better, but def gonna watch more.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/07/2010 21:32

Oooh, Dr Watson's blog and Holmes's website.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/07/2010 21:39

First hidden message pretty straightforward.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/07/2010 21:44

Also Molly Hooper's blog

Rindercella · 26/07/2010 21:53

Loved it, loved it, loved it. It was really good fun and the only thing I have seen on TV for months. I was utterly knackered, but still managed to stay awake til the end. Looking forward to next Sunday. Just a shame it's only 3 episodes.

How did the taxi driver always choose the right pill...? Did explain this?

vmcd28 · 27/07/2010 09:33

-- Durrrr. did THEY explain this?

HowAnnoying · 27/07/2010 09:37

I don't think they explained it, I think it was just luck, he didn't care cos he was going to die soon anyway, and he was just doing it for money.

THought it was really good.

diddl · 27/07/2010 09:57

I don´t think they did explain it.

Maybe they were both poisonous & the killer never really took one?

Or maybe he was on some medication that meant the tablet would be harmless to him?

MrsC2010 · 27/07/2010 10:11

We loved it, great to see a good, gripping (yet funny) drama again.

thell · 27/07/2010 10:18

Crikey, those mock-up websites are a wee bit weak! Strictly for the under 15s ?

After reading all the comparisons on here to the original books I've started reading A Study In Scarlet. And it's good, but I'm perhaps enjoying it more because of the tv version! eg really enjoyed seeing the way Moffat used the 'Rache' clue from the original. Nice!

Becky99 · 27/07/2010 13:32

Really liked it. Watson a far more interesting & complex character though.

TartyMcFarty · 27/07/2010 13:34

Really wanted to love it but

Casting was brilliant. Storyline was lame, despite initially high expectations based on the adaptation from 'A Study in Scarlet'. Far too many irrelevant red-herrings (the 'other woman' of the first victim for example).

I haven't seen Luther and I was onto the cabbie a long time before SH!

Holymoly321 · 27/07/2010 13:38

I loved it too! About time there was something decent on the telly that doesn't rely on heaps of blood, gore, and guts to boost the ratings. Thought BC was excellent (he always is) - though I can never make out what it is about his face that doesn't look quite 'real'? Am thinking it may be something to do with his eyes - looks like he doesn't have eyelashes... Thought Watson was suberb. THe only thing that really gratedfor me, was the actress playing the female copper. Is she the worst actress in the world, or did she justhave bad lines?

AppleTreeWick · 27/07/2010 14:25

I really enjoyed it too. Mind you I am currently obsessed with all things Holmesian due to an outbreak of Robert Downey Junior-itis.

The music reminded me of the 2009 filmtrack (but sandstone walls and fish in batter remind me of RDJ) and I did like the references to canon.

Watson bloke seemed rather likeable too...none too slashable though despite the references.

Mrs Hudson is looking like a gem in waiting. On whether they were using one bed or two: "Oh don't mind me. Next doors got married one's".

actress playing copper looked like she was just in from a casting session for binge drinker number 3.

Also lack of gore = good in my book too. I've stopped watching most cop shows because of the nasty stuff.

Apols to pedants corner for the grammar etc of this post..RDJitis I tell you.

BakewellTarts · 27/07/2010 14:32

vmcd28 my reading is that the cabbie was so good at reading people he could work out which pill they'd (probably) pick. So he had better than even odds and more like chess which is about strategy and psychology as well as moving pieces around. Also helped that he was dying so a mistake wasn't a disaster.

I am a huge SH fan and I love the new series. This is effectively the pilot so loads to set up quickly doesn't give so much time for complex detection plot. Really looking forward to the next being billed as a mix of The Dancing Men and The Sign of Four.

Completely agree with chickiolina nice not to have gratuitous violence and ott blood for once.

thedogwalker · 27/07/2010 14:56

So with you jooseyfruit, I think Rupert is gorgeous. My kind of man.

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/07/2010 17:19

taped this and watched it last night - i liked.

Wigglesmummy · 27/07/2010 18:10

Love it. Don't care. Will tide me over until Dr Who comes back

Longtalljosie · 27/07/2010 18:25

"Far too many irrelevant red-herrings (the 'other woman' of the first victim for example)."

I think that must just have been a device to make it clear he was getting into a taxi.

The taxi thing was obvious - and made obvious, which I didn't understand. It kind of undercut the whole thing for me, which is a shame because there was an awful lot right with it.

The Princess Bride pill thing annoyed me a bit too...

MillieMummy · 27/07/2010 18:44

I think it was fantastic - how great to have something really exciting on to watch on TV. Rupert Graves is lovely - I had the pleasure of having a drink with him once (we grew up in the same town and have a few mutual friends). He is a great actor and very underated I think.
