Oil cleansing method

Thank you to the mumsnetter who mentionned this a few days ago! I looked it up and have done it a couple of times, and it is fantastic! It has made such an amazing difference to my skin in such a short time: it is much clearer, softer, with no dry patches, and some old stubborn blackheads are finally gone. And it is cheap! What's not to like!

For anyone interested more info here

Have followed this thread from the beginning and kept meaning to try it, but not getting around to it.

Anyway today I bought some castor oil (virgin - doncha know!) and have olive oil at home. So I'm all set. Just have a couple of questions:

  1. Can the oil blend be used around the eyes?
  2. Can it be used on a (rare) face full of make up?

Well I used it to cleanse off a full face of make up last night so I think so, yes

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/03/2009 21:11

Yes and yes I think - I use it all over my face and it gets makeup off really well.

mammya · 24/03/2009 08:53

Yep, I agree, I use it to remove my make up, including mascara and eye liner. It works a treat!

I'm finding the olive oil is much gentler and more effective at removing mascara than my old Clinique eye make-up remover and obviously a fraction of the price

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.

YOu have cured my QVC addiction and saved me loads of money.

Day five of the OCM and my skin feels, looks, is so much better. NOw what to do with a cupboard full of half used lotions and potions?

mammya · 24/03/2009 17:16

You could freecycle them?

So where are you guys getting castor oil from?

jooseyfruit · 24/03/2009 20:21

i got mine from boots.

MrsMattie · 24/03/2009 20:28

Haven't bothered with the castor oil yet - will get some tomorrow if I have time - but been using the olive oil for 4 days now and my skin is fab. Thank you!

zanz1bar · 24/03/2009 20:29

local chemist, just asked and they kept some at the back.

MrsMcCluskey · 24/03/2009 20:50

I got my castor oil from Chemist direct

mammya · 24/03/2009 21:31

I got mine from Boots, but it wasn't on display, I had to ask for it. Only about £1.40 for about 150ml.

It's worth trying your local chemist and ask if they have some if it's not on the shelves. According to the notes on my bottle it's a constipation remedy... Might possibly come in handy in that respect as well, who knows!

I had a cunning plan today. I bought a small spray bottle of olive oil for about £2.50. I've taken the label off and it lives in my bathroom now. I feel so much less like a stir fry and yet, still have soft skin. Brilliant!

EmmaBridgewater956 · 26/03/2009 17:06

Has anyone found this has helped clear up blackheads? Have just started doing it this week but have v bad blackheads round nostrils (yuck) and wondering whether I persevere or I need to use something else on those too?

Loving the all over softness though.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 26/03/2009 17:15

emma I have those - and yes they are going you just need to stick with it a bit.

EmmaBridgewater956 · 26/03/2009 17:16

That is reassuring - thanks. Am trying to resist the urge to get in there with my fingernails....

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 26/03/2009 17:20

Noooo! It will damage the skin and you'll get those red threads - badness

EmmaBridgewater956 · 26/03/2009 17:22

Red threads? Ugh. Now you have got me worried - I thought that was normally on people who drank too much..

oxocube · 26/03/2009 18:46

Have gone spotty not glowing . Am wondering whether to persevere as only on day 4 or whether to give up and go back to cheap cleanser and moisturisor.

oxocube · 26/03/2009 18:47

Actually, am blotchy rather than spotty - still not the healthy glow I had anticipated

NotPlayingAnyMore · 26/03/2009 22:26

oxo - are you using castor oil?
I came up in spots and blemishes immediately with it but they definitely stopped appearing when I stuck to olive oil

oxocube · 27/03/2009 06:46

no, just plain olive oil.
