Thank you to the mumsnetter who mentionned this a few days ago! I looked it up and have done it a couple of times, and it is fantastic! It has made such an amazing difference to my skin in such a short time: it is much clearer, softer, with no dry patches, and some old stubborn blackheads are finally gone. And it is cheap! What's not to like!

For anyone interested more info here

Well you could always point out to him that you will be saving money by not buying branded facial cleanswer if he gets annoyed (no need to mention the new handbag just yet )

For anyone who is interested Lloyds Pharmacy sell Caster Oil (100ml) for £1.38.

That where I got mine from!

LaraCroft · 13/03/2009 09:13

That should read Castor!

Need to proof read before posting!

Thanks Lara, I'll check out Lloyds Pharmacy.

That looks good Ruby, but a bit pricey! I think I'll stick to ordinary vegetable oils.

Hey, great thread--thanks! I'll be trying this, too.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/03/2009 22:44

This looks very interesting.

Can anyone explain, are you supposed to use moisturiser or toner - or does this replace the whole thing?

I am rather addicted to my skincare products and feel a bt scared at abandoning them all, although I love the idea of soft glowing skin!!

mammya · 14/03/2009 22:44

My local Tesco doesn't sell castor oil, but I found avocado oil there, so I will have a go with this mixed with almond or olive oil. I will try Lloyds pharmacy next week, I really want to try castor oil as I have read it is very, very effective.

The castor oil acts as a poltice, drawing crap out your skin, it is also quite drying, thus mixing it with another oil (any will do, the vegtable oil in your cupboard).

Use your normal moisturiser afterwards.

Well my lymphatic system doesn't seem to be doing its job properly then! I've always had quite bad skin, lots of blackheads, and I tried lots of things to try and improve it. OCM is the only one that has made any difference.

Castor oil penetrates deep into the skin thanks to its molecular weight, which is low enough to penetrate into the stratum corneum. Castor Isostearate Succinate is a polymeric mixture of esters with Isostearic Acid and Succinic Acid used for skin conditioning, such as in shampoo, lipstick and lip balm.[20]

Uses include skin problems, burns, sunburns, skin disorders, skin cuts, and abrasions. Castor oil has also been used to draw out styes in the eye by pouring a small amount into the eye and allowing it to circulate around the inside of the eyelid. Note that most bottles of castor oil indicate the oil is to be kept away from the eyes. The oil is also used as a rub or pack for various ailments, including abdominal complaints, headaches, muscle pains, inflammatory conditions, skin eruptions, lesions, and sinusitis.

I've got the feeling im missing something here, as you've said it doesnt clear blackheads so I can't see what its got to do with the oil stuff?

lilacclaire · 15/03/2009 00:06

So is the lymphatic system more to do with sweating stuff out?

Cool, my skin does now look consistantly cleaner using this (and pores stay clean all day) which is great for me, even after a face mask my pores still looked mucky. Tis all good with the oil
