Oil cleansing method

Thank you to the mumsnetter who mentionned this a few days ago! I looked it up and have done it a couple of times, and it is fantastic! It has made such an amazing difference to my skin in such a short time: it is much clearer, softer, with no dry patches, and some old stubborn blackheads are finally gone. And it is cheap! What's not to like!

For anyone interested more info here

Thanks ruddynorah, I think I'll do it each night and use hot flannel in the morning.

I just asked my assistant how the oil slick was and she said not bad, nowhere near as bad as it normally is, I'm not shiny yet apparently

mum2samandalex · 02/07/2009 21:16

arrraaggghhhh i guess il stick with it then finding it very hard not to squeeze them! I hope this method kicks in soon!

MumHadEnough · 06/07/2009 23:08

Well have done it five times now and I love the way my skin is feeling. I'm really chuffed!

I think my (very few) lines round my eyes look less obvious too, I may be just imagining that though

Hi, can anyone advise me if this will help my condition of sebhoerric eczema?
I am at my witts end with this condition nothing helps at all, i have been recommended to use 50% castor oil and 50% sweet almond oil is this right?
Thanks

LilRedWG · 08/07/2009 15:41

I didn't realise how much my skin had benefitted until I didn't bother with doing it for a week. My skin is now oil, with dry scaly patches and a few spots. Back to OCM I think.

olivertwist · 08/07/2009 15:45

What do you use Lil?

mammya · 08/07/2009 20:09

Oliver, I suppose you have nothing to lose if you try it... I use almond oil on its own and it's working well for my skin, I find castor oil too drying for my skin. The ratio of castor oil to almond oil you have been recommended seems a little high, who recommended it to you? You could try that for a few days and reduce the proportion of castor oil if you find it's too drying.

I mised extra virgin oplive oil with castor oil - think the ratios were 3:1, but can't quite remember.

mammya · 08/07/2009 22:35

Congratulations Christiana!

Oliver, yes persevere! You may have to do it less often than every day though. Everyone's skin reacts differently so you'll have to do a bit of trial and error.

simples i'm old time ish..i remember you as u used to be iyswim. oil thingy is good. very very good.

for those of you playing with it..it's no good doing a day of oil then a day of your old cleanser. you have to stick at it or your skin never finds its new balance.

JonAndHate · 12/07/2009 16:42

olivertwist I had the same problem
Really sore bumps (impossible to squeeze) around my jaw line and forehead.

It took a good 3 weeks for my skin to calm down after I stopped using this method. 2.5 months later the scars are still there... I never used to get spots (started OCM as my skin tends to get oily and sometimes looks a bit tired) so found this horrible.

I started using jojoba oil (it's usually used to balance oily/dry skin) then tried jojoba and castor oil and finally olive oil and castor oil. I tried this x3/week for 2 weeks. First 2 times were lovely but then it went downhill...

Had to go back to my old regime of washing with water in the shower and nothing else! Whilst I still had the spots also used simple light moisturiser as my skin was spotty and dry...

I think the jojoba was too thick and the castor too drying and completely messed up my skin.

I might start doing OCM with olive oil once a week just to help clean and moisturise.

Still looking for a SPF that won't make me oily as that's the only thing that will really stop the wrinkles and ageing process!!
