Oil cleansing method

Thank you to the mumsnetter who mentionned this a few days ago! I looked it up and have done it a couple of times, and it is fantastic! It has made such an amazing difference to my skin in such a short time: it is much clearer, softer, with no dry patches, and some old stubborn blackheads are finally gone. And it is cheap! What's not to like!

For anyone interested more info here

Well as long as I don't have to abandon my beloved moisturiser then I might give it a whirl.

Whatsthestory I think you are missing the point slightly. I don't really understand why you keep mentionning the lymphatic system, you said yourself it won't help in removing blackheads. That's one of the great things about this method, it does remove blackheads, without having to squeeze them. Actually what christiana says about oil cleaning oil makes a lot of sense.

I also find that I don't need much moisturizer with this method.

I've been doing this for years but with Tesco Vitamin E cleanser rather than oils.

I have PCOS ergo i am prone to shite skin. The dermatologist i saw talked me through the method of using a hot flannel and a decent natural moisturiser afterwards. I don't think it is the oils that are helping the skin, it's the method.

The Tesco cleanser is 70p by the way.....
(although my moisturiser is Neals Yard Frankinncence.)

mammya · 15/03/2009 22:30

That's interesting Idrank. I will have a look at that Tesco cleaner.

I think using the oils makes a difference though, I had been using the same method for a while, only without the oils, just with the facecloth and hot then cold water. Using the oils has really improved the condition of my skin, and I've only been using them for a short time. It's nice to see that it's a dermatologist-approved method!

Thinking about giving this a bash.. is it any good for open pores? my forehead and cheeks resemble orange peel and I hate it and have been desperately seeking a solution for ages with no success

lilacclaire · 16/03/2009 09:42

akhems, thats exactly my problem (just include my nose and chin as well)
It doesnt make your pores smaller, but really cleans them so they don't look as bad.
Give it a bash, its working on me.

MrsMattie · 16/03/2009 09:55

Interesting. I was going to start a thread raving about Eve Lom, as I finally bought the £25 starter kit at the weekend and after just two days have noticed a huge improvement in my skin - softer, clearer etc. Might give this a go instead, as much cheaper!

sammysam · 16/03/2009 12:22

I NEED to sort my skin out-I'm so fed up with the blackheads, pores, big nasty recurring spots. It makes sense that oil cleans oil......i'm off to try and find somewhere online that sells all the oils I'll need.......

mammya · 16/03/2009 12:32

Sammysam, you could just start by looking in your kitchen cupboard

If you have extra virgin olive oil then you can use that, see if the method suits your skin and take it from there.

I am still trying to find somewhere that sells castor oil, I have to check out Lloyds pharmacy, if no luck there I will also try Holland & Barrett and other health food shops. I have found some on the internet but with the postage costs added it is not a cheap option!

I can't find caster oil either, have tried Lloyds and Holland and Barrett - where does everyone else get theirs from?

thank you chrisina - have jut ordered 2 bottles

sammysam · 16/03/2009 14:23

We have very little in our cupboards at the mo due to nasty morning sickness-not helped at all by the supermarket.....
so I have just got a bit too carried away on this site and have ordered a few oils to try out. They also do their own facail oil mix.
I'll let you know how I get on!

akhems · 16/03/2009 14:56

just ordered a bottle of castor oil from amazon, going shopping later so will get a nice sunflower seed oil and be ready to start by the end of the week

mammya · 16/03/2009 15:33

I have found castor oil at Boots, they had it behind the prescriptions counter.

ok.. while i'm waiting for the castor oil to arrive, I improvised with bio oil and I'm amazed!

can't wait to try the real deal as it were

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/03/2009 14:59

I tried this last night with some extra virgin olive oil - my skin felt so nice!

I followed the method and it involved leaving the hot tap running for several minutes which the greenie in me found horrifying - anyone come up with a better plan?

Christiana I thought about a bowl, but then obviously you need to clean the flannel inbetween each steam-and-wipe. Do you use the same water over again for this or do you empty and refill the bowl each time?

Wow! I got some castor oil from the Lloyds pharmacy and tried it out.
My ds1 who never notices anything said that my face looked 'clean and healthy'.My skin looks really good. All chuffed now.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/03/2009 19:46

Christiana I don't know - I guess if it works then no you aren't! I will just use the same water tonight I think, thank you.

MrsMcCluskey · 17/03/2009 21:14

I just tried this with olive oil in the bath.
My skin does look slightly better.
I have blackheads spots and wrinkls on my face so will seek out castor oil and perservere!
Thanks for the links ladies!

LaraCroft · 17/03/2009 23:13

Hi, just wanted to add when I got mine (castor oil) from Lloyds Pharmacy I had to ask for it and they had it out back. As far as I could see it was not on the shelves.
