Oil cleansing method

Thank you to the mumsnetter who mentionned this a few days ago! I looked it up and have done it a couple of times, and it is fantastic! It has made such an amazing difference to my skin in such a short time: it is much clearer, softer, with no dry patches, and some old stubborn blackheads are finally gone. And it is cheap! What's not to like!

For anyone interested more info here

Ok I now have castor oil so will use that with the olive oil tonight.

Will that make my skin drier/cleaner? Because the last 2 mornings I have still done my usual cleanse and tone routine because my skin needed more than water to be clean.

Well today I popped into work (am currently off on maternity leave), and my colleagues were saying how well I looked - in particular my skin (not that I thought it was that bad before!), they said it was all glowy so I guess this oil cleansing method is doing something.

oooh got my castor oil today, am looking forward to trying it out!!

bamboobutton · 22/03/2009 13:45

i have been doing this for a few days now using almond oil and my skin is looking fab.

also, if you add a pinch of salt to the oil you get a brilliant facial scrub, it turned my skin from looking like orange peel into fresh baby faced lovelyness.

LetThemEatCake · 22/03/2009 14:40

have just read this whole thread with interest .... my usually good skin has been cursed with pregnancy hormones the last few weeks and is making me miserable (but worth it for a lovely baby, of course)

So will try this tonight with EV olive oil and head to the health food shop tomorrow for some almond oil or something.

thanks!! fingers crossed!!

mrsmaidamess · 22/03/2009 14:47

I used that freebie DHC sample that another poster mentioned earlier this morning...and I have to say my skin feels lovely. But I had been using Burts Bees facial cleanser up until then and loving it...then reading the package it has orange oil in it.

MayorNaze · 22/03/2009 18:15

been doing this for about 5 days using just olive oil - thought it was fab initially but no am getting really dry skin round my jaw

what is prob? is it cos i is not using castor oil?

am as thought this was the answer to my facial prayers.

naomi83 · 22/03/2009 18:58

quoted from the original site, "This deep cleansing method should be done regularly, but not too frequently. You'll know if you're deep cleansing too frequently by the dryness that your skin will exhibit" maybe only do it every second day?
it also says "f your skin feels tight, take a tiny drop of your oil blend, rub it between your clean, damp palms and pat it onto your damp skin. Gently massage any oil residue into your skin so there is no film of oil left sitting on the surface. Your skin should now glow" i'm trying this tomorrow night, very excited!

MrsMcCluskey · 22/03/2009 19:09

Wow 4 days in and my skin is looking great.
I look really pale as all mt blotchiness is clearing, and those blackheads that I have had in my nose crease forever are going!
Only drawback - i mixed my oils in a (clean) reggae reggae sauce bottle and i think i can sstill smenll the spices!
Any ideaas where i can get little empty bottles from?
My mix is 75% EV olive oil
5% almond oil
20% castor oil.

LetThemEatCake · 22/03/2009 19:27

empty bottles from Muji!! also your average pound shop will generally have a few.

Wow! That sounds incredible. I'm going to get me some castor oil and try it tomorrow. I used to use Dr Haushcka (sp?) for oily skins, which involved a facial scrub and then applying oil to moisturise, which I couldn't cope with, because you didn't wipe the oil off again, and I have very oily, blackheady skin! Ugh. This seems more rational. Will watch this thread with interest.

pispirispis · 22/03/2009 22:54

Ooooh, can I please join this thread?? My skin's been crap since I was 25 (weirdly I had lovely skin as a teen) and I am sick sick sick of the spots/blackheads/wrinkles combination! I'd read about this method and actually got around to ordering some castor oil over the internet this weeek as I can't find any elsewhere. I was going to hunt down some nice organic sunflower massage oil but after reading this I'm going to go upstairs now and try it just with the almond oil I have here in the house. How exciting!

MayorNaze - are you using any moisturiser? I know that the website says you don't need it, but I'm using my normal moisturiser at night after doing the cleansing and again in the morning otherwise my skin would be too dry too. Hope that helps!

NotPlayingAnyMore · 23/03/2009 00:36

Used a little castor in olive oil for most of this week but I think the castor is just too thick to use on my skin at all as lots of big bumps immediately came up.
Tried the olive oil alone today though and my skin feels better than I ever remember

mammya · 23/03/2009 09:12

MayorNaze, I find that if I do it every day I get dry patches too. Every other day seems a better routine for me, I use water only on the other days.

I'm trying this too - first 'cleanse' was this morning with plain ex virgin olive oil but plan to follow christian's lead and add a few drops of lavender oil because I love the smell! My skin felt lovely and soft afterwards. I am early forties with dry skin and ever increasing wrinkles

MayorNaze · 23/03/2009 13:07

ah! thanks for all the advice girls,i do moisturise as well after, so i guess it was just too much or often of a good thing then!

at mrsmcluskeys reggae reggae sauce cleansing method though...

will lay of for couple of days and be more moderate in future
