Olivia Colman’s newly grown long grey hair

Madamefroufrou · 30/09/2026 10:27

This time last year she sported her usual brunette wavy pixie cut showing
all of her face.
This week she has long crinkly shades of grey hair we are led to believe
she has grown in twelve months, embracing the grey/natural ageing.
Does anyone have an opinion on this phenomenon or believe this heavy
hanging hank of hair looks attractive, or is it perhaps a Statement.

I'm 56 with salt and pepper grey hair, and thought her hair looked fab. I'd imagine it's mostly natural as she's got a natural curl/wave in it.

I personally think the "menopause mahogany" dyed look is far more aging.

I think there's a lot of pressure on women to "fight ageing". It's understandable thats there's pressure to dye hair, to cover grey.
If only it was the same pressure for men.

These actors, they'll stop at nothing.

@Madamefroufrou are you going to reply to any of these posts?

I think it’s very clearly extensions. You can still see her short hair at the top.

ILikeDinosaurs · 30/09/2026 12:31

What does her hair have to do with her political opinions?

Actually you’re right, it is extensions or a hair piece/wig

Lexingtonavenueandme · 30/09/2026 12:37

It’s extensions. It states that in numerous articles.

Threads like this really support the meaning behind my username, so many people are so needlessly nasty. Most people commenting would hate if a bunch of people started making unsolicited and negative comments on their appearance. How about we all go down the street and tell people to their face we think their hair ages them or looks in need of a good conditioner or any other mean observation. And of course round up a group to properly pile on. Assuming that’s not ok, why is starting a thread like this?

outerspacepotato · 30/09/2026 12:43

She's rocking that look hard. I like it.

Does anyone [...] believe this heavy hanging hank of hair looks attractive

Yes, long hair is universally known to be disgustingly unattractive on all women (and as we know, the primary purpose of women is to be attractive), so I don't know what she was thinking.

Oh yes! How could I forget - if you dare to look a day over 40, you might as well put yourself in the bin, and save the world the trouble!

It’ll be for an acting role I presume? She’s usually quite short haired.
It looks fine, got her pictures in the paper which is what acting types live for isn’t it?😂
She looks great short or long I think.

No that's not what serious actors 'live for'. Her huge body of work isn't to get her picture in the papers. You are confusing actors with reality TV people.

Me too. I like it.

Yes, this. Also, she was on the red carpet for a film she was in -- that's where these long-haired photos are from. Actors are contracted to do a certain amount of publicity for the project, hence premieres, sitting on Graham Norton's sofa, press interviews etc. It's part of the job.

It’s not that long… I think she could have grown it in 12 months. Elle magazine seems to think it is extension: https://www.elle.com/uk/beauty/hair/a73936690/olivia-colman-grey-hair-extensions/

Either way, who cares? She looks lovely.

Following the link her hair is much longer than on the picture showing initially. Past her shoulders.

FeralFucker · 30/09/2026 13:07

WTF. Leave a woman's barnet alone.

She says in an article that it's hair extensions.

She's apparently filming a series based upon a 1960s film about the French Resistance but transported to an alternate reality in the UK.

The odds of somebody filming playing a middleaged woman in a version of WWII with an immaculate pixie or having sleek and shiny hair (as she isn't usually typecast to be the ultra glam femme fatale, after all, not when they've got other female actors to fulfil those roles) are pretty low - and as they are filming right now, nobody's going to be taking out her extensions for a night out to promote her last roles only to put them back in the following morning.

Yeah, we all live our lives according to what’s deemed ‘flattering’. 🙄

I’m 54 and the only reason my hair is still coloured is because it’s greying in the weirdest way, a large grey patch to one side on the top of my head, and the rest still brown. It makes me look like I’m wearing a very, lopsided small grey beret. I’m in envy of friends who’ve greyed more evenly, or have developed distinguished-looking silver wings at their temples.

I love your description! I understand exactly what you mean. My ‘small grey beret’ is perched on the front of my head😂 The rest of my hair is dark so I continue getting it coloured. With regard to Olivia Coleman I would imagine her new hair style is for an acting role. The short cut she usually sports appears to be her signature style? She is a bit of a twit sometimes. I really liked her in The Favourite.

I'm glad someone else has a lopsided grey mini-beret. Grin

She looks great, she is a great actress. No woman in their 50s is free from grey hair. She chooses not to dye it. I actually think she looks younger with the long grey hair.
