What are the main trends going to be would you say?

It’s like 1981 again 🙈

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 06/09/2026 22:57

@coronafiona What happened in 1981?

summater · 07/09/2026 05:54

I like brown, and did someone mention chartreuse, I have a chartreuse Seasalt summer mac/coat from ages ago which will be handy if it rains

I bought some lovely kilts in the Celtic and. Co sale earlier in the year so am pleased to see them still in fashion.

Same!!

ArtesianWater · 07/09/2026 06:53

Gosh reading this I am so happy about this autumn's trends. I'm a tall redhead and brown is like a superpower for me, ditto wider/straight jeans and long boots vs. ankle boots. I also do formal much better than casual so love the idea of a return to more ladylike.

Sorry to all those that hate brown! Personally I look like death in black/grey/aubergine/navy/white which is 90% of all clothing across the years so I stock up when the trends are in my favour! Give it six months and I guarantee we won't see brown again for ages. I couldn't find a pair of brown trousers for love nor money a couple of years ago.

There are shades of brown too. From deep chocolate to a rich bronze and copper. I like camel too. It’s nearly always classy with winter whites.

Edited

It only looks classy if the colour suits you though.

@Neuronimo it is significantly cooler where I live - thin jumper and socks weather now. All the rain we have had has miraculously turned our lawn green again.

We are getting there, we've had one chilly morning, but yesterday was 26 again. I am envying jumpers and socks.

I'm envying your 26 degrees. I have sadly packed all my shorts and strappy tops away.

Where is it still that warm? We have high teens temperatures now (South Yorkshire).

Thesearenotthedroids · 07/09/2026 07:34

We are 25/26 today in Kent I think. I would prefer to pack up the summer clothes before school term starts but now I'm in a limbo of what to wear.

GameOfJones · 07/09/2026 07:40

I'm another with Winter colouring so jewel tones are ideal for me......brown not so much but to be fair we had years and years of black.

The rise of chartreuse is interesting. I think it's a tricky colour for most people but on someone with the right colouring would look amazing.

In addition to lady of the manor, brown, chartreuse, funnel necks etc I'm seeing more fringing around.... particularly on bags. Also military jackets which I absolutely love..... I had a fab one in the early 2000s that a school friend "borrowed" and never returned so I may treat myself.

I've got a day off work today so I'm going to get the train to my local city and have a mooch around the shops.

19 degrees today, 16, 16, 17, 18, 18, 18 for the rest of the week. Schools are already back round here.

Oh God not dark brown again 😪

I was at the shops yesterday and every jumper or top was short in the body - what's that all about?

Oh the short tops thing is getting beyond a joke now! I even ended up looking at men’s T-shirts recently in the hope of finding something that might meet my trousers!!

OsfameronTanamoril · 07/09/2026 08:00

Can brown people wear brown? When I do I look like a walking pile of poo.

summater · 07/09/2026 08:02

It was 24 yesterday in Northants, we are forecast 20-23 for the next week or two so won't be able to get the boots out yet.

i don't like short tops as I'm 5'10" but recently bought a t shirt from Sweaty Betty in Next clearance and it's a lovely quality and length. They have got a nice brown one for full price but it's a bit more than I would usually pay.

We're down in the South East. I should stop moaning really, 26 is is relatively cool. It's been a long summer 😃

Floisme · 07/09/2026 08:42

Thank you @GameOfJones! And grey. If brown is still the dominant colour in 15 years then I'll listen to complaints.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 07/09/2026 08:42

@RampantIvy Visited friends in South Oxfordshire yesterday and it was 29 degrees on the way and when we got there. Later it cooled down and we had a nice breeze.

Cantonet · 07/09/2026 09:24

Big shoulders are making a return.
Maximalism is coming back as opposed to clean expensive minimalism.
Purple is the in colour but is often translated to a type of plum/aubergine.
And yes the much heralded return of of skinny jeans.
I can confidently say I will never wear skinny jeans again. They need lycra and I don't like the feel of it - it makes my skin crawl.

I hate brown!

Me too. Farmer vibes. Seen lots of burgundy too which is a nicer colour but does nothing for me.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/09/2026 10:25

I saw a lady in the pub last night wearing a fabulous chartreuse dress. She looked great. She said she’d bought it on Vinted (it looked very expensive to me) and hadn’t been sure of the colour. I was able to tell her that according to some knowledgeable people I know, she is bang on trend and she was delighted. We had such a nice chat.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 07/09/2026 13:50

Skinny jeans not back according to Vogue. Straight, wider and turn ups. Slightly cropped too. Skinnies are just awful on lots of people.

BlueLeopardPrint · 07/09/2026 18:11

So the Davina McCall look.

And of course I meant Claudia Winkleman Grin

Love, love, love the purple colours. They really suit me.

Me too, I have a Florence and Fred v neck that's ready to be worn a bit more.

I suit brown and glad to the the muted matt brown and it's muddy ness is not so prominent as much richer shades. Camel and caramel, chocolate and brandy snap

I thought of this thread earlier when I was going by round a few shops in my lunch break trying to find a smart black top. I went into four or five shops, including Mango, Hobbs and Whistles but could only find the kind of top I wanted in brown in every shop.
