What are the main trends going to be would you say?

Some lovely outfits in the Benetton windows.
Brown, preppy, nice twists on blazers & jeans.
Summer linen suits are in the sale but still $$$

I don't understand this. Do you really change everything every season?

And even if you do, do you really buy colours you don't like?

I think brown is awful. At most I might have something which has brown as part of a pattern but I don't own anything in solid brown.

Obviously I don't change my entire wardrobe every year but I like to buy a couple of items that are current.
I've already said that I hate brown and won't be buying any of it.

Some of us have an interest in fashion, hence why we are here and discussing it.

I love fashion fashion is not following trends lol fashion is using clothing and styling yourself to look good ,!!

Enjoying reading this chat thanks all. I have a few questions, how about bootleg jeans? are they still a thing. Also, For those amongst us with wide hips (me) pleated skirts are a no go. How about the straighter silky skirts? Quite like the idea of proper shoes not trainers but like pp said ballet flats are hard if it's cold. What type of boots or trainers are in?

I don't mind brown but burgundy and orange are terrible on me. Kilts are a no-go. Quite surprised skinny jeans might be back!

(Again, as an apple) I'll never stop wearing bootleg jeans that give me some balance - with skinnies I look like a lollipop from the (non existent) waist down.
Don't think they are particularly fashionable though, no.

Also if your having to ask what's a trend or current u know nothing about fashion 🤔
If u know what's trending and your wearing a style.thats already current before it hits the high street then your into fashion lol 😁
Sorry if this ruffles people's.feathers but it's true 😜

Thats what you tube and the internet is for. Im not a fashionister I wear what suits me but I do know whats in.

Clasty · 06/09/2026 14:39

I like brown! And forest greens, rust, mustard, amber. My ambition is to be mistaken for a woodland creature wherever possible. Or just a pile of old leaves 😉

Gettingbysomehow · 06/09/2026 14:48

Forest green is lovely. Actually my favourite colour.

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 06/09/2026 15:05

Suede
Deer or Bambi print
loafers
ballerina pumps with block heel

Wow! I really don’t know where to start with that.

So do you just instinctively know what’s in and never look at magazines, talk to friends, in shops, check out brands you like, look around at what chic people are wearing?

If you are I assume you must work in a big fashion house.

StripeyPJs · 06/09/2026 15:26

Oh not more brown and burgundy! So bored of it and neither colour suits me.

Jewel colours sounds promising, but haven’t seen much on the high street yet.

And?

Some people quite like clothes, aren't massively into fashion but take an interest from time to time. Gatekeeping fashion chat as though it's solely the preserve of those who live and breathe clothes 24/7 is loser behaviour.

I think it’s always pretty much the same
in autumn - autumnal colours. I’m not sure why anyone is surprised by this. Yes there is brown and green around, but I’ve also seen pink and petrol blue. Black and grey are definitely around as well. Jewel colours tend to pop up more around the festive / party season. Brown suits me and I do like it, but I wouldn’t wear it all the time nor necessarily head to toe. I’m not sure why anyone would wear it at all if it doesn’t suit them. Some colours make me look ill so I avoid them

OneBusyFinch · 06/09/2026 16:33

As a jewel winter like @RampantIvy I’m v excited for more jewel coloured clothes

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/09/2026 16:42

I read yesterday that cobalt blue would be in - I have a Cos cardi from a couple of years ago in that shade which I really like. Jewel colours as a rule do not suit me at all but I do suit blue (not sure if it’s classed as jewel).

endofthecorridoor · 06/09/2026 16:52

I’m eyeing brown barrel jeans. An ecru and beige stripe sezanne shirt with big cuffs and a red cashmere crew neck to tie my existing wardrobe to this season. I swore I would not spend any money on clothes in September but I’m quite certain I’m buying these. Also maybe a suede jacket but living in Cornwall it’s either too hot too cold or raining so this is for the life I imagine having

Most colours have a shade in each season, so you might suit petrol blue but not Royal blue for example.

paomara · 06/09/2026 17:38

I only have one pair of wide legs. They don't suit everyone and certainly don't look great on me, I look like a boat in full flight at Cowes Week. So I stuck to straight leg versions and lo and behold, they are back! So much more flattering, well on me anyway. I also have several pairs of NEXT tapered jersey joggers for easy wear and OMG they are just so comfortable and wash and dry so well. That's me sorted, fashion or not!

As for colours, brown makes me look like a ploughed field, so it's definitely jewel green, cobalt, burgundy etc. tops for me. All of which I have already. What goes around comes around!

Neuronimo · 06/09/2026 17:40

I'm hoping it gets cooler so I can wear some of my lovely Autumn things. Last year it seemed to jump from hot to wet without anything in between. I have some lovely unworn wool and velvet jackets beckoning to me.

Ah that makes sense, thank you. I suit cobalt and baby blues, and I think my “season” is soft autumn, but I don’t pay much attention to it and just wear what I’m drawn to really. (I just got ChatGPT to do it rather than a proper person 😔)

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 06/09/2026 17:44

If it's what is now flooding the shops I will save a fortune! Brown, slub, drab and some poor takes on 90s styles are really not enticing me to spend.

Purplecatshopaholic · 06/09/2026 17:56

Yes to chocolate brown. Also red, burgundy and chartreuse. I think bright blue too, but I’m likely ignoring that, lol. Plaid, checks, tartans seem to be in (although I’ll be avoiding tartan, being in Scotland - you end up looking like you work in a tourist shop - nothing wrong with that obvs, I just don’t happen to want to channel that look). Suede, leather, dark denim. Apparently we are moving from quiet luxury, back to luxury.

MorrisZapp · 06/09/2026 19:08

Skinnies! At last! I love skinny jeans and they love me but I just look so outdated in them I've been steering clear recently. Hope I can wear with confidence soon.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 06/09/2026 22:46

There are shades of brown too. From deep chocolate to a rich bronze and copper. I like camel too. It’s nearly always classy with winter whites.
