How do you manage bikini line hair without shaving or waxing?

Bit personal I know, but how do you deal with your bikini line?

I get terrible rash and spots if I shave. Can't afford and can't find a waxer I'm comfortable with.

Was thinking about Nair but worry about the chemicals and safety...

Please let me in on your methods!

Ps I know I don't have to, and enjoy the freedom of a full bush but my hair is dark and it goes quite a way over the thigh/inside hip crease and my little one wants to go swimming more so I need a solution!

I use hair removal cream and dont come out in a rash. I would have loads of red bumps and be sore if I shaved. I have to be careful with under my arms and not shave too much.
I would like to try a lumea at some point but for now the cream is cheap and easy.

I pluck with tweezers but then i have Trichotillomania

HamBap · 26/06/2026 22:42

Philips Lumea, life-changing, really. As a rash prone, dark hair, pale skin woman I cannot believe how amazing it's been. Bikini line is now non existent but the landing strip as it were remains but grows slowly. Same for lower leg hair and under arm, very whispy.

Previous to my laser revelation I used to wear boy short style bikinis, I was sick of the rashes and pissed of that the men don't do this shit.

I got the Phillips Lumea a few years ago and it's one of my best purchases. Bikini and leg hair are no more! Armpit also greatly reduced although not totally gone like the other areas.

No prickly regrowth or ingrown hairs - it's not a cheap device but definitely worth it.

Is it sore to use? I quite fancy getting one xx

Get it lasered - or use a Philips Lumea at home. It takes a few goes to work, so in the meantime one of these and you’re sorted!

No good if you are fair though.

Phillips Lumea is nothing short of amazing.

I bought a Philips Lumea laser gadget 10 years back. Did bikini line and under arms. Now never think about it. All clear. The odd hair pops up every 6 months or so, and I zap it with the gadget.

I went for laser treatment in a salon once.
They told me it didn’t work on blonde/light pubic hair!
Does this Lumea work on all colour hair?

Sandysandybeaches · Yesterday 07:20

Trimmer - trims short enough so you can’t see but no rash or ingrown hairs.

bellocchild · Yesterday 09:01

Buy an epilator? Braun/Philips/Boots etc

("An epilator is an electrical device that uses rotating mechanical tweezers to grip and pull multiple hairs out by the root simultaneously")

I have the Braun IPL, essentially the same thing as the Lumea, and it didn't work for me. Somebody upthread suggested that it does make a difference eventually if you use it very frequently and for a long time.

Flollowing the instructions is a waste of time.

This chart shows you - you need a contrast between the skin and the hair. The top row is skin tones and the bottom row is hair colours. I’m a natural level 8 blonde and it has worked on my lower leg hair, under my arms and my bikini line. It has no effect on the white-blonde hairs on my thighs and arms. I would have thought that pubic hair so blonde as to be unsuitable for IPL is pretty rare (NB I’m not asking for details!!).

I have the same issue but I’m 40 and married for years so I don’t care any more. I have a wax once a year for holiday.

I cannot shave at all. I was lucky when younger that most beauticians would wax intimate areas but most will not nowadays.

I’ve tried epilation on the top of thighs and I’ve also bought my own stripless wax for the odd time I go away mid year or a quick weekend. Otherwise I’m bushy all year.

I do no and again take a head shaver to it and give it a good all over - it’s not good enough for bikinis, but shortens hairs without the pain.

@JoB1kenobi

loads of places do intimate waxing

Sorry to jump in OP.

Can I ask the Lumea users some advice. I got one a few months ago and used it every 2 weeks, for 4 times but I’ve done it more than that (it’s maybe been 7 times - 14 weeks) and I don’t think there’s much of a reduction yet.

Do I just carry on using it every 2 weeks and hope the growth slows/stops?

How long did it take for it to work for you?

Thanks :-)

66babe · Yesterday 19:06

I use a sensitive hair remover .. can’t remember the brand but it was about 8 quid in Superdrug , slather it on , scrape it off in 5-6 mins
Any redness gone within hours - brilliant , have saved so much money from the 4 weekly wax that was £25 a time
Huge tube , do it every 5-6 weeks and it’s lasted a year

Thanks - it looks to be about the contrast between hair and skin colour.

My skin is very light as is body hair yet there is a contrast.

I’m not putting up pictures 🤣

I may try another salon.

Or decide not to care, everyone knows we have pubic hair, it's porn that insists we shouldn't. I don't care.

I was sexually assaulted at primary school by older boys who knew I had pubic hair (guessing they'd seen it whilst I was attempting handstands) and wanted to know how it felt. There's trauma, not pornsickness, underpinning my desire to keep it covered.

I’m so sorry that happened to you Flowers

Fascinating how many people are threatened by @FruAashild’s reply to the question “How do you manage bikini line hair without shaving or waxing?”.

I’d tag you all but there are too many of you who are clearly very triggered by an honest answer by someone who happens to “manage” in a different way and gave that answer.

I remind myself that pubic hair is a sign of fertility and that every time women's rights advance the beauty standards become more strict and invasive. Pubic hair has a functional role and if you remove it you will inevitably have issues.

What issues would you be likely to have? I have not had any pubic hair for twenty years or more and I can’t say I’ve encountered any problems?

Myli1 · Today 18:20

Laser hair removal is the way to go for pubic hair. DP and I had six sessions at a local salon some time ago and the results have been great - virtually no regrowth at all. I can’t say the process was exactly pain free, but the woman who carried out the treatment was gentle and very understanding of our low pain threshold!

I think you’ll find actually that many men do groom or completely remove their pubic hair these days, it’s just taken them a while to catch up with women!
