How do you manage bikini line hair without shaving or waxing?

Bit personal I know, but how do you deal with your bikini line?

I get terrible rash and spots if I shave. Can't afford and can't find a waxer I'm comfortable with.

Was thinking about Nair but worry about the chemicals and safety...

Please let me in on your methods!

Ps I know I don't have to, and enjoy the freedom of a full bush but my hair is dark and it goes quite a way over the thigh/inside hip crease and my little one wants to go swimming more so I need a solution!

at home wax with prepasted strips.

MaggieBsBoat · 25/06/2026 01:54

As above do it at home. Simple, cheap.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 25/06/2026 02:11

Every bikini hair removal option I've tried bar professional waxing has left me with red sore spots.

The other option is cover it:

  • Legsuit.
  • Board shorts over bikini.
  • Bike/workout shorts over bikini. Lululemon do these in 2", 4", and 6" inseam.
Wonderfulequipment · 25/06/2026 02:21

Get it lasered - or use a Philips Lumea at home. It takes a few goes to work, so in the meantime one of these and you’re sorted!

I shave, using a good quality razor, and a body oil, which is a game changer at preventing shaving rash. Almond oil or similar works.

FrozenTodger · 25/06/2026 05:31

@Meadowfinchwhen you say body oil, do you literally slather that on in place of shaving foam? Or use the oil after shaving? Thanks!

RoseField1 · 25/06/2026 05:43

I switched to Wilkinson intuition razors and no more shaving rash.

I remind myself that pubic hair is a sign of fertility and that every time women's rights advance the beauty standards become more strict and invasive. Pubic hair has a functional role and if you remove it you will inevitably have issues.

😂😂😂😂 or you could let the women decide not everyone wants a bush

It seems clear to me she's sharing what she personally does and not saying everyone has to do the same. It doesn't hurt to hear different ideas from time to time.

nomoremsniceperson · 25/06/2026 06:03

I use a men's hair trimmer and put it on about number 2. My skin doesn't get damaged this way and the hair is so short it's much less noticeable. But I am quite relaxed about my body hair now... I gave up proper shaving/epilation years ago because it gives me dermatofibromas and realised that everything being perfectly smooth isn't actually necessary. Have gone swimming with quite serious bikini line growth many times and from about 2 metres away people can't really see it anyway. And if people are staring at a woman's crotch at a pool and see something they don't like, well, serves them right.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 25/06/2026 06:29

Find a swimsuit to cover it. Swim shorts, you can’t be that bushy that shorts wouldn’t cover it.

at home wax with prepasted strips.

Tried this during Covid lockdowns. It’s v easy to use.

I have PCOS and it grows halfway down my thighs if I leave it be. I'm able to make my own decisions about my body thanks.

TheCurious0range · 25/06/2026 06:43

@CucumberCool I generally wax strip the actual bikini line, and then use a trimmer on the rest as I prefer to keep it short than remove entirely and also get the bumps/chicken skin if I remove everything

UpToonGirl · 25/06/2026 06:48

I got the Phillips Lumea a few years ago and it's one of my best purchases. Bikini and leg hair are no more! Armpit also greatly reduced although not totally gone like the other areas.

No prickly regrowth or ingrown hairs - it's not a cheap device but definitely worth it.

HangingStars · 25/06/2026 06:51

I use veet hair removal cream on the bikini line and then just trim the rest. It’s the only thing that hasn’t given me horrible rash, waxing included! V tempted by a Philips Lumea though!

Yep! I decided I no longer wanted to be itchy and in pain so bought board shorts. I HATE that most bikini bottoms (and knickers) don’t actually cover all of your bum cheeks as they make me feel so self conscious. I just want to be comfortable. Even tankini shorts let hair escape or are cut too high in the leg.

I’m so much happier with my board shorts.

MagpiePi · 25/06/2026 06:59

I trim it short with an electric trimmer then use an epilator. I've found that if I epilate without trimming first the longer hairs get tangled up in the epilator and it is more painful.

And every time women’s rights advance, men get beardier.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/06/2026 07:15

I always wear knee length swim leggings because my legs look horrible having lost 6 stone at 64. Like a chicken 😅
Shorts are ok too.

This. Hurts a lot the first few times, but grit your teeth and it becomes totally tolerable. Having said that, I only do standard bikini line, nothing more extensive.

2Rebecca · 25/06/2026 07:26

Bikini line Nair or similar but only the bikini line version. Also some swimsuits have short legs to them so I wear them and then don’t need to bother

JaspersCarrott · 25/06/2026 07:29

I wear a tankini top with swim shorts... for my next holiday I've found a couple of M&S swimsuits which have shots type legs.
I've used Veet & Nair in the past, but the smoothness doesn't quite see me through a 2 week holiday.
Im nearly 60, so my body hair growth has slowed down, but not enough to be wearing the usual style bikini bottoms

dizzydizzydizzy · 25/06/2026 07:33

I use Nair. It does a good job. If I don’t fancy doing that, I wear shorts. I also have pubic hair going halfway down my thighs but I don’t have PCOS.
