How do you manage bikini line hair without shaving or waxing?

Bit personal I know, but how do you deal with your bikini line?

I get terrible rash and spots if I shave. Can't afford and can't find a waxer I'm comfortable with.

Was thinking about Nair but worry about the chemicals and safety...

Please let me in on your methods!

Ps I know I don't have to, and enjoy the freedom of a full bush but my hair is dark and it goes quite a way over the thigh/inside hip crease and my little one wants to go swimming more so I need a solution!

I got this a few days ago. It's fab! Used the trimmer first then went over it with the rotary end. No nicks, spots, irritation at all. I can't use razors as it's so irritating the next few days, can't be bothered with hair removal cream (though I've been using creams for a long time.)

So handy and with it being double ended, best of both worlds. Quite satisfying doing my legs with it too. Will be taking it on holiday with me, no more spider legs creeping out this time! 😁

I shave, using a good quality razor, and a body oil, which is a game changer at preventing shaving rash. Almond oil or similar works.

This and using salicylic acid or glycolic acid the next day to prevent spots and ingrown hairs.

I tried the Inkey list one but found it a bit thick (is good for legs if you get strawberry legs though!)

Now I use this salicylic acid, I put it in a spray bottle and just spritz at bedtime after my shower. Just keep it away from the intimate skin of the labia and vagina! Put your knickers on first for protection.

It’s also really good if you get acne on the back or chest, just spray it once a day. Really helps.

ETA, almond oil sticks in towels and makes them quite stinky. I’ve found washing them with a good generous scoop of Oxy and a decent quality bio liquid, on a cold wash first gets rid of the smell. Don’t wash at usual 60 until you’ve done that pre wash or it’ll bake in the oil!

I have really sensitive skin and every waxing/shaving/removal cream I have tried has left me with irritation. I switched to using a Meridian trimmer and it has been a game-changer for thighs and bikini line. No nicks or bumps, and trims so close that you would have to be really looking to notice anything

jay55 · 25/06/2026 09:50

i wear shorts for swimming/sunbathing. Not just due to hair but loose skin too.

Greebosmum · 25/06/2026 09:51

I have always just brazened it out. Nobody should be looking, if they don't like it they can look away.

Branleuse · 25/06/2026 09:51

If you clipper it really short it shouldn't give you a rash. It won't feel smooth but it won't look hairy.

Crumpetring · 25/06/2026 09:53

I wear bikini bottoms that cover my bikini area.

They still look good, skin tight tiny shorts.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 25/06/2026 06:29

Find a swimsuit to cover it. Swim shorts, you can’t be that bushy that shorts wouldn’t cover it.

This. I despise removing pubic hair. My solution was to get a swimming costume with cycling short style bottom half.

Has sleeves too so I don't need to worry about sunburnt arms.

Failedcrunchymum · 25/06/2026 09:53

I use board shorts or other swim shorts. There are some really nice ones for women and they're more flattering on me than regular bikini bottoms anyway.

mumuseli · 25/06/2026 09:53

Re the shorts-style swimsuits - I'm so glad they're becoming more popular. Last time I went to the pool and beach, there was such a range of women's swimwear worn - going from skimpy bikini to shorts-style to full burkini! People do it for different reasons eg comfort, modesty, or not wanting to get burned. It always used to bug me that women were expected to wear swimwear that shows a lot of their body, while men usually wear baggy swimshorts and would feel conscious if they had to wear tight trunks. So I'm glad things are equalising a bit and there's now more options for women.

flippertyflipster · 25/06/2026 09:58

I use the Gillette Venus with aloe Vera, slather with dove shower cream first then shave, then oil straight after the shower and it’s fine, I used to get the red spots too. I use Cyperus Rotundus oil, it’s very soothing and apparently helps reduce hair over time. If it’s hot first day I’ll wear shorts not knickers to avoid irritation. I used to use a bikini trimmer, it’s like a mini man’s beard trimmer, that is also quite good also!

OctopusSting · 25/06/2026 10:03

I’ve used a Phillips epilator for years on legs, underarm and bikini line. It’s a bit ‘sharp intake of breath’ when you first start but easy to get used to. I now only have to do it once a month or so as hair grows back thinner and slower.

Missey85 · 25/06/2026 05:54

😂😂😂😂 or you could let the women decide not everyone wants a bush

It’s also good to remember WHY you don’t want one. A lot of that is due to things that we have heard growing up and continue to hear. And if you’re happy with that, then that’s fine, but it’s just good think about where our preferences come from sometimes. What we hear growing up is ‘it’s cleaner, it looks better, it feels better’ and that becomes ingrained in us. And that doesn’t have to be a problem either, it’s just good to note it.

Has anyone tried an old-fashioned safety razor? For legs/underarms? Supposedly you're less likely to get ingrown hairs using one of these, as opposed to the multi-bladed cartridges

Hair removal cream for sensitive skin

brahmsandnegroni · 25/06/2026 10:17

Epilator does the job quickly and inexpensively and lasts for weeks. I tried wax strips but found them difficult and fiddly and didn't seem to work.

Does the cream work on arms?

langnebmydear · 25/06/2026 10:30

I bought a Philips Lumea laser gadget 10 years back. Did bikini line and under arms. Now never think about it. All clear. The odd hair pops up every 6 months or so, and I zap it with the gadget.

I'm not sure, it does make the pores larger I think so the hair kinda falls out. Not the best solution but my compromise between pain and gain :)

Madrid21 · 25/06/2026 10:34

I find if I put arnica cream on immediately after then that seems to help calm the irritation.

wishingonastar101 · 25/06/2026 10:58

IPL - did legs, arms, bikini line, underarms, upper lip.

CucumberCool · 25/06/2026 10:58

Excellent suggestions everyone - thank you

Beard trimmer and live with tiny amount of growth that is left - no one notices.

AlwaysExtraHot · 25/06/2026 11:10

I wear sports swimming costumes that come down my legs, or a bikini top and shorts.

This is what I do as well. They're small and comfortable and look good and they cover my 1970s style full bush 😁

Retro12 · 25/06/2026 12:05

I use the Estrid razor - no problems with bumps or ingrowing hair
