Okay, I'm just savouring the process at the moment, spraying on tissue rather than skin.

I've had a sniff of the five Barrois samples, and the Elie Saab.

The Barrois fragrances are SO interesting.

Aldebaran is particularly drawing me in. It's incredibly evocative of Spain for some reason. Dry heat and savoury peppers. God it's amazing!!

B683 - a similar vibe, but sweeter.

Encelade - that rhubarb note is intriguing! Kind of sharp and savoury again.

Ganymede - if I hadn't sniffed the above first, I think I'd be more impressed. I like it, but it's slightly more mainstream than the others at first sniff.

Tilia - again, nice enough, but more mainstream. I like the honey element.

Elie Saab - not my thing at all! It's reminds me of the smell of rapeseed fields - it almost stings my nose / makes my eyes water / headache inducing.

Aldebaran gives me a similar "emotional" experience to Tauer's L'Air du Desert Marocain.

SOTD Ex Nihilo Spiky Muse, I like it a lot more today than I did when I first tried it during the winter

OvaHere · 01/05/2026 15:54

Initio Atomic Rose today. I'm not sure how many rose based scents a person needs in their life but I do like this one. Sort of a fruity rose.

IDontHateRainbows · 01/05/2026 16:01

Continuing with the dvn discovery set, raving rose which I'm not sure about. Its a clean, soapy rose I prefer my rose a little softer.

Also tried bitter splash which is a grapefruit heavy zinger. Im still in the mood for fresh scents but not usually a grapefruit fan
This is quite sharp but with some spice to round it....interesting.

Sofd is Oud Isphan. Rich, smoky, and unapologetically bold. Definitely an evening scent

SapphireSeptember · 01/05/2026 17:04

Yesterday's SOTD were Watermelon, Pink Grapefruit and Strawberry Cupcake. The last one smells like iron tablets when I first spritz it, but then the chocolate and vanilla comes along. Doesn't smell much like strawberry anything though.

Today was Wild Berries which is one of my favourites. I'm on a roll with my So...? body mists at the moment. I do own other stuff, I swear! 😅

NotTheFreudYoureLookingFor · 01/05/2026 20:56

Aldebaran skin test was a total journey today. Started out as above, reminding me of hot dry sunny air, with savoury green pepper, and a slightly camphorous edge. Evolved into more obviously tuberose, which I was initially disappointed about as I'm not that keen on tuberose. But actually it was lovely... Perhaps I just hadn't met the right tuberose? This isn't cloying or heavy... Is still got a deep heat / menthol edge to it.

Fascinating! Looking forward to giving it another ride soon

IDontHateRainbows · 01/05/2026 22:07

Dvn jardin l'orangerie which is a beautiful orange blossom scent. Loving it.

So far from the dvn set there's been 3 I like and 2 which are ok but don't love. Overall I love the house and this one my favourite from the set

I got a SdJ Cheirosa 87 in a subscription box this morning so I’m trying that.

It smelt quite peachy on first spray but that died down. It’s not for me, too sweet. And I don’t get any coconut. I don’t hate it but I don’t really like it.

Donated it to the teen!

catscatsdogs · 02/05/2026 13:26

Zara Barbie today

just ordered a sample of Abel - laundry day to try

Doglover73 · 02/05/2026 14:17

Sotd
Who Is aelijah? Ocean Eyes x

MiaN · 02/05/2026 17:40

Really enjoying main character Alia from look fantastic advent. I didn't expect to enjoy wearing it so much

IDontHateRainbows · 03/05/2026 14:06

Comme des garcons zero today which is surprisingly nice in a 'sniff my hand again to see why' way. It's really hard to describe bit kind of smells like nothing ( hence zero) mixed with wood or paper, slightly ozonic. Reminds me of i don't know what type genre but its not an iso e super.

I wish I could describe it better but I'll settle for 'weird but nice'

Byredo Gypsy Water, I got the little sample with a space nk order. It's nice, more lemony than i remember but I'm getting more into citrus scents recently.

SOTD Ganymede. I've been LOVING the barrois samples. On further sniffing they are all unlike anything I've sniffed before, and I love how they all evolve. I'm on my own private journey each day as I catch the wafts unfolding themselves.

NotTheFreudYoureLookingFor · 04/05/2026 15:17

Ganymede reminds me of a) warm salty sea rocks and sweet fresh shellfish, and b) an insectarium I made for a primary school project with twigs, leaves, and some millipedes. It's the weirdest olfactory flashback. And I guess even weirder that I enjoy it 🤷

IDontHateRainbows · 04/05/2026 15:19

I love Ganymede. I had the Barrois samples in the perfume soc but sold them, luckily I orderd another box before the 30% off ended so they will be on their way to me soon and I may keep them this time.

Any Ganymede fans, the selfridges frag box is still available and it's one of the items.

SOTD Herrera JGG asmine Absolu. I went through a serious fixation with the stilettos last year - this is the latest incarnation. It's quite sweet almost sickly, wasn't sure at first as it's quite screetchy first on but it dried down nicely. Not my favourite GG but it's nicer than I remembered it from when it first came out. Quite comforting, would work as a bedtime scent.

Anyone who is a fan of mini dabbers, Notino have loads of sets of 3 at the moment at a really good price, £15 for 3 with code. Naturally I have stocked up!

I must investigate whether I still have these from TPS sample box last year...they sound amazing!

TragicMuse · 04/05/2026 16:30

My SOTD is Mary Greenwell Lemon again, but then I was out and the assistant at Laura Mercier spritzed me with vanilla, so I'm unexpectedly layered!

IDontHateRainbows · 05/05/2026 08:14

Byredo blanche absolu. Really trying hard to like this but I'm not naturally drawn to aldehydic laundry scents. However as my nose seems to have got on board with freshies lately, and I'm into the olfactory experience, I am seeing what happens. I don't not like these scents, I just don't quite 'get' them, with the exception of Alto Astral which is aldehydic but very lovely with coconut water dominating, so the laundry scent is more a bit part than main player.

NotTheFreudYoureLookingFor · 05/05/2026 08:25

Boadacea Lannosea (PS sample). First time trying it on skin. Lemony and woody. Just went to find out more info about it and saw the price. I both spluttered and snorted.

IDontHateRainbows · 05/05/2026 08:27

The other one from TPS box to try if you have not yet @NotTheFreudYoureLookingFor is coleur primaire from les eaux primordiales. Now this one is a laundry scent - smells like you've just buried your nose in a box of persil. Much more so than Byredo Blanche Absolu. I can't decide if I like it. I like trying it if that makes sense.

Now the blanche absolu has settled a bit I'm enjoying it a bit more.
