I’m the same @ScottishMouse - I have sent so many things back to Toast because of uneven armpits, odd straps, wonky stitching, strangely placed patterns, etc. Quality control sometimes leaves a lot to be desired!

It really is quite rubbish at Toast prices, isn’t it @IlovePond? It’s interesting that I also like two local boutiques that stock many brands and usually only have one of an item in each size. I have never tried anything on in either shop, from any brand, and noticed anything that has got past quality control in the same way. I complained about it in their recent survey, but who knows how much impact that will have. I have ended up rejecting quite a number of items because of it, and it puts me off re-ordering, when I would probably have kept many of the pieces had they been “perfect”.

IlovePond · 27/05/2026 21:01

I agree @ScottishMouse - quality control seems to have declined just as prices have shot up!

in agreement on the quality control issues. A recent reply from toast said that they expect there to be a 3cm difference in shapes and sizes between pieces, which is fair enough in a nice loose jumper or something but when you take a darted fitted top makes it very hard to choose a piece.

i bought the contrast enamel salad bowl and jug recently, i think i said, and they’re wonderful in case anyone was considering.

@hicat
Thats way outside the usual tolerance in clothes manufacturing
The limits set are pretty small and QC would usually reject at above 1.5-2cm difference
Many of the issues are simply shoddy work so I doubt there is much inspection going on anyway
The answer will be avoiding waste greenwashing but seconds sales could deal with that.
It makes me very cross and want to weep at the same time .
I have some years old Toast cream tailored trousers here and the cut and french seams are immaculate.

Re: Quality control

People who have been on the thread a while might remember that it took three orders for me to get a Pond dress that wasn’t faulty!

One even had the side pockets with one placed higher than the other!

I am still sad about having to return the Landscape dress due to the wonky stitching along the neck and waistline - I got an apology for that, but no dress as they were sold out 😿

I think this is a bit rich when Toast reply to reviews from customers saying items didn’t fit with a sniffy ‘you should have checked the measurements’! (In so many words)

IlovePond · 28/05/2026 11:04

I agree wholeheartedly @OrangeyLemon

I hate the ordering and sending back cycle but it’s impossible to avoid with Toast due to inconsistent sizing AND the failure to have sale stick in shops!

OP posts:
IlovePond · 28/05/2026 11:05

Speaking of which: When do we think the sale might start?

OP posts:
hicat · 28/05/2026 11:10

Totally agree! To be fair, they said up to 3cm, but that does include 3cm which is a very wide toleration. This was from a complaint when I returned a pair of trousers whose pocket tore after a few short months and I wanted to replace them, but none of the replacements had the same measurements lying flat. I asked if I could keep the OGs — I’d have been happy with a 50% refund and then I could repair myself but they wouldn’t concede, nor would they check a few pairs for me to see if the measurements were the same. And the time I complained a pocket had been sewn on squint, they assured me they’d inspect and take the matter seriously, I reordered and they sent me the exact same bloomin top. I was seething.

but all that being said, I’ll caveat that no other brand gives me the same satisfaction from seeing a favourite piece waiting to be worn in my wardrobe. I think it’s the drab and empty customer service responses that get to me more than the issues themselves.

Ha! I was just checking the date of last year’s summer sale purchases, which was 18 June, so 17 June this year?

IlovePond · 28/05/2026 11:22

Thanks @OrangeyLemon

@IlovePond the Hereu chocolate blanquer Mary Jane shoes arrived. The heel isn’t too high in fact it might be the reason I’ll keep them since I no longer have any heeled shoes. They are unworn and immaculate, stickers still clean on the heel/soles. Very lovely. My only concern is that they are leather soled and the description on the website when I bought them said manmade sole. I still think I’ll keep them as I won’t be walking very far in them.

I agree, I have two Promenade coats which are beautifully made with darts, impeccably cut and perfect fit from 15 years ago. None of their stock since those days have touched them in terms of cut and sewing.

IlovePond · 28/05/2026 12:35

Thanks @ScallopShellWalk - next time I see some shoes I like on Reworn I might give them a go. I would never buy ‘secondhand’ shoes, but the ones you have are clearly new, despite the description online.

@hicat
Am afraid like many others I am looking elsewhere now
I buy the odd thing from Toast but nowhere near my 2020-2023 purchases
Odd shapes and cuts, too much repetition and quality issues not to mention the prices.
Am waiting on 2 Ma Lin blouses, similar price point .
Will report back

ScallopShellWalk · 28/05/2026 12:56

@IlovePond
I contacted customer services about the soles of the shoes not being as advertised and ask for some cost to be refunded as a compensation. They refunded me 15%. Very quick to resolve over chat.

Agree
I think they need to scale down
Do a S/S/A/W drops not the constant new stuff and stick to a much smaller range of styles .
Currently there are 60 dresses and 94 trousers/ shorts and jumpsuits.
I think the quality is diluted by far too many styles.
The core products are a great idea with 10 of each in a seasonal style in addition, with far more attention to fabric choice, colour ban the sludgy yellows and quality .

Glad your new shoes worked out for you @ScallopShellWalk !

Does anyone have the garment dyed wide leg linen trousers from last year? Can you please tell me how well they've worn? There aren't many reviews for this year's version yet. It's this pair in oat (have bought on reworn). I wasn't expecting to like them quite as much as I do!

@faustina I haven’t bought these but I had intended to get the black. However they didn’t have them in the shop to try when I wanted them. I recently tried the new green ones and I liked them a lot, tho a little on the long side.
Good you got a nice pair.

faustina · 28/05/2026 13:25

Thank you @ScallopShellWalk - one of the pleasant surprises for me about the trousers is that they're not too long. I'm 5'4 so most wide leg things swamp me

ScallopShellWalk · 28/05/2026 13:42

@faustina perfect. 😊 they were possibly wearable for me or maybe I’d take them up a bit. Depends on shoes.
Great they fit you well. They usually swamp me too. (5’2”) It’s always nice to not have to take trousers up and be able to wear right away.

ScottishMouse · 28/05/2026 14:45

I agree @CoasttoToast, 60 dresses but none that work for me (for one reason or another). Whereas I can shop other places where they maybe have only 5-10 items from a brand and know there will be at least one piece in that that works well. Something isn’t right (though it could be my body shape and taste not being a good match for Toast anymore) I have just packed for a weekend away and the only Toast item in my suitcase is years old. Although I am bringing my straw bag, a blue check scarf, and my fracap sandals (most of my Toast purchases in the last 18 months have been accessories by other brands or homeware).

Primrosespaw · 28/05/2026 16:53

@faustina i have the linen trousers in pepper. I’m going to have to get tailor to sort the length out. I’ve been having to roll the waistband and still too long. Size 12 and 5.1. I’m used to having gabi and Alix trousers which end up being just the right length. They are lovely trousers and very useful so worth the tailoring spend for me.
