@ScottishMouse the Davy j swimsuits look nice. Do they come up small? Do you choose your normal size or would you size up?

ScottishMouse · 20/05/2026 14:51

@ScallopShellWalk i think it would depend on the style. Despite being short, I have a long body and a bust, so I find one pieces come up short in the body. This is the same for the Davy J ones. I have the jones bottoms in my normal size and the picked up the body top on Vinted to go with them, also in my normal size. I also have one of the long sleeve tops, again in my normal size. I find them snug, but that holds everything in place a bit better 🤣

ScallopShellWalk · 20/05/2026 15:24

Thank you. That’s really helpful. I need a new swim suit. I have one that’s too small from a few years ago and I bought a two piece bigger than my normal size last year but once in the water I realise it’s too big. These were speedo not Davy j. But I like the look of the one piece Davy j. Thank you for introducing them to me.
On Vinted there’s a nice swimsuit I would choose if I could but it’s a size bigger than my usual size. The seller listed it as a size smaller than the label as she says it runs small for her. I’m not really sure that would work for me now after hearing back from you. My body is short, my hips are narrow and I’ve a small bust (sadly a thicker waist 😱) I think a larger size might cause flapping open in the water at the legs and front. Not great. I’ll stick to my normal size. Thanks. What you have bought sounds interesting. Maybe I should just buy a top as I have bottoms I like well enough.

ScottishMouse · 20/05/2026 15:37

@ScallopShellWalk the jones bottoms are fabulous as they can be turned over to waist at the waist, or they can be pulled right up to under the boobs, so a top like the body top then comes down over them and essentially forms a one piece but it is two pieces so more flexible in body length.

Dyeing experts - how can I tell if the thread used in an item will take dye or not? It is this Toast jacket and it says it is garment dyed, which I thought meant that the thread would take the dye, but I’m even reading around and now I’m not confident this is the case. I have the jacket already and cannot tell you how much I love it. I find jackets so tricky and this is perfection for me, so I am wondering if it is complete madness to buy another and dye it black. If I knew for sure it would work then the cost would totally be worth it for me.

@ScottishMouse , that is interesting re the jacket as I have been eyeing it up. I have just bought the matching trousers and absolutely love them (although they need taking up by an inch) and I was wondering about getting the jacket too. From the reviews it seems the jacket comes up true to size?

I can't help with the dyeing question I am afraid, but I know there is expertise on here that will be able to. I am sure Toast would have the answer too if you emailed their customer care.

In other news I left a poor review for some ribbed socks in khaki. Before I had even put them on I noticed a hole in them and, as I had taken them on holiday with me to wear, I had disposed of the packaging at this end before going. Customer care has reached out for photos, which I have supplied, I wonder what their response will be....

Oh I really like the colour of that jacket @ScottishMouse and the idea that the shoulders fit better than the average Toast jacket too (on me). I'd say best ask CS about the thread, because it would look odd if you had stitching visible when you didn't want to. I dyed a linen t-shirt from white to navy once and it's really nice now, no longer transparent, but the thread is still very white, luckily in a good way!

ToastCosILoveIt · 20/05/2026 19:58

I have been looking at a few linen pieces lately, beyond Toast. I bought this dress in a 12 and 14 from John Lewis: the 12 fitted and the style was lovely, but it was the quality of the linen that made me return it. Ditto this Cos dress, looked great on and a lovely cut. However, returned both because of the quality of the linen which was super thin and shiny feeling. I do think Toast does a good linen in its items and perhaps I have been spoilt but the JL and Cos pieces didn't feel as though they had the quality of Toast.

I have a grey linen sheath dress from Toast, cap sleeves and those pockets that sit slightly to the front. It is super simple but the cut and the fabric make it so effective. I bought it in-store two or three years ago and had to size down to a XS even though I am a solid 12. I just picked up what I hope is the same dress in navy on Vinted for £21 so I am hoping it has the same generosity of cut or I will be listing it on our Facebook page!

@ToastCosILoveIt i went for M in the jacket which is my normal Toast size. I can easily fit a jumper underneath so it is generous but meant to look slightly oversized I think. I totally recommend it. Looks great with black/navy/white/denim too.

ScottishMouse · 20/05/2026 20:50

Good idea @faustina and @ToastCosILoveIt, I should ask CS about the thread. The sensible thing would be to wait and see if they bring it out in another colour, but that might mean waiting until next spring, and probably only if it sells well.

They have the matching trousers in a dark colour: not sure whether that suggests a dark jacket is coming or not…..

The fish dress is back in stock in many sizes if anyone else wanted one and missed out. Now I just hope it suits me as I love the fabric.

I finally decided I want it, and it's gone again.
There's one on Vinted at an inflated price. 😞

ToastCosILoveIt · 22/05/2026 08:11

I can’t remember who wanted the botanical dress and in what size and colour. But there’s one on Vinted at the moment.

@ScottishMouse I dyed one of the neat jackets that was an ivory colour to black. The only thing that didn’t dye was the inside placket lining. It doesn’t really affect it. I did it with a Dylon ball thing, and I think the only thing that I shouldn’t have done was to wash it at 60 degrees. I think the linen has shrunk a little bit and I can’t seem to make it completely flat. It’s wearable though just not perfect. So I would suggest not washing your jacket at 60 as per the Dylon instructions. I think that because it’s garment dyed this would mean the thread would dye too. But I am no expert!!

ScallopShellWalk · 23/05/2026 09:18

I managed to order a dress from reworn that I’d admired. It’s cotton, beige sleeveless sundress with a couple of tucks. From last year. I really hope it fits. Wish it would hurry up and arrive even though it’s too cold here to wear it.

ScallopShellWalk · 23/05/2026 09:23

I also got Annie cropped jeans from reworn last week. They were a size bigger than I may have considered and just as well as the waist is snug. I really like them. Worn them most days since.
This is a great thing for me about having only really discovered Toast last September, I can ogle at all the past seasons and they are all new to me.

IlovePond · 23/05/2026 09:43

Glad you are having luck with Reworn @ScallopShellWalk

I am really happy with the grey linen dress I got a few weeks ago, (already have the matching jacket from last April’s sample sale when the range was new in store). It looks good with a jumper over it for cooler months.

I tried the matching trousers at last week’s sale, but unfortunately they were too small.

It’s finally warm enough here for me to dig out my red floral pj bottoms, nightie and gown - probably my favourite clothes combo ever!

I had a nasty moment this morning when I worried the trousers might have ´shrunk’, 😉, but fortunately I can still get into them!

I have also retrieved the blue and white floral gown with the gold lining - I have the pjs in this fabric but I tend to wear the matching gown in the garden as a cover up - it looks nice with my shorts!

ScallopShellWalk · 23/05/2026 13:14

@IlovePond I’m still wearing my soft flannel (orange stripes) pjs and dressing gown. Even though some nights I feel a bit warm now. 🤣

ShanghaiDiva · 23/05/2026 13:29

Have ordered a dress and blouse from reworn. Despatched yesterday but will not arrive until after the bank holiday. Pah!

IlovePond · 23/05/2026 14:51

I love Toast flannel @ScallopShellWalk !

Afternoon ladies. Sorry I haven’t responded to advice on dyeing. It’s been a bit of a week!
I have a quick question - does anyone have the irregular stripe cotton smock top and has washed it? I’m wondering if the cream colour has faded to be a little less cream with washing? It just arrived and I didn’t me expect to like it as much as I do, but the colour isn’t great for my skin tone, closer to white would be better. Sometimes ecrus and creams fade in the wash, I’m hoping someone will tell me theirs has? Thanks.

ScallopShellWalk · 24/05/2026 09:27

There was a pair of dark brown Hereu shoes I admired on reworn ages ago. Like chocolate. I like most of Hereu shoes but full price I feel it’s more than I want to spend on shoes, boots maybe. I thought over them a lot and was glad someone bought them and took the temptation away. Then they came back! To haunt me. I’ve been thinking and thinking over them. They are slightly heeled (5cm) and I tend to prefer flats, even barefoot soles. So as the story goes, I looked in the Hereu Instagram account, which of course led me to want them even more. So I bought them. I even feel happy about it. The good thing about reworn is that I can always return them if they don’t fit or suit.

IlovePond · 24/05/2026 09:56

Ah, I saw those shoes @ScallopShellWalk and was quite interested in them myself.

Please let us know how ‘worn’ they are - I have been wondering if Toast shoes on Reworn are returns or ones from photoshoots or if they really have been worn/used.

Thanks

I will returning a 12 in the fish dress if anyone is looking for one. Just a little snug for me but a beautiful dress.
