@ScottishMouse the Davy j swimsuits look nice. Do they come up small? Do you choose your normal size or would you size up?

ScottishMouse · Today 14:51

@ScallopShellWalk i think it would depend on the style. Despite being short, I have a long body and a bust, so I find one pieces come up short in the body. This is the same for the Davy J ones. I have the jones bottoms in my normal size and the picked up the body top on Vinted to go with them, also in my normal size. I also have one of the long sleeve tops, again in my normal size. I find them snug, but that holds everything in place a bit better 🤣

Thank you. That’s really helpful. I need a new swim suit. I have one that’s too small from a few years ago and I bought a two piece bigger than my normal size last year but once in the water I realise it’s too big. These were speedo not Davy j. But I like the look of the one piece Davy j. Thank you for introducing them to me.
On Vinted there’s a nice swimsuit I would choose if I could but it’s a size bigger than my usual size. The seller listed it as a size smaller than the label as she says it runs small for her. I’m not really sure that would work for me now after hearing back from you. My body is short, my hips are narrow and I’ve a small bust (sadly a thicker waist 😱) I think a larger size might cause flapping open in the water at the legs and front. Not great. I’ll stick to my normal size. Thanks. What you have bought sounds interesting. Maybe I should just buy a top as I have bottoms I like well enough.

@ScallopShellWalk the jones bottoms are fabulous as they can be turned over to waist at the waist, or they can be pulled right up to under the boobs, so a top like the body top then comes down over them and essentially forms a one piece but it is two pieces so more flexible in body length.

Dyeing experts - how can I tell if the thread used in an item will take dye or not? It is this Toast jacket and it says it is garment dyed, which I thought meant that the thread would take the dye, but I’m even reading around and now I’m not confident this is the case. I have the jacket already and cannot tell you how much I love it. I find jackets so tricky and this is perfection for me, so I am wondering if it is complete madness to buy another and dye it black. If I knew for sure it would work then the cost would totally be worth it for me.

@ScottishMouse , that is interesting re the jacket as I have been eyeing it up. I have just bought the matching trousers and absolutely love them (although they need taking up by an inch) and I was wondering about getting the jacket too. From the reviews it seems the jacket comes up true to size?

I can't help with the dyeing question I am afraid, but I know there is expertise on here that will be able to. I am sure Toast would have the answer too if you emailed their customer care.

In other news I left a poor review for some ribbed socks in khaki. Before I had even put them on I noticed a hole in them and, as I had taken them on holiday with me to wear, I had disposed of the packaging at this end before going. Customer care has reached out for photos, which I have supplied, I wonder what their response will be....

Oh I really like the colour of that jacket @ScottishMouse and the idea that the shoulders fit better than the average Toast jacket too (on me). I'd say best ask CS about the thread, because it would look odd if you had stitching visible when you didn't want to. I dyed a linen t-shirt from white to navy once and it's really nice now, no longer transparent, but the thread is still very white, luckily in a good way!

I have been looking at a few linen pieces lately, beyond Toast. I bought this dress in a 12 and 14 from John Lewis: the 12 fitted and the style was lovely, but it was the quality of the linen that made me return it. Ditto this Cos dress, looked great on and a lovely cut. However, returned both because of the quality of the linen which was super thin and shiny feeling. I do think Toast does a good linen in its items and perhaps I have been spoilt but the JL and Cos pieces didn't feel as though they had the quality of Toast.

I have a grey linen sheath dress from Toast, cap sleeves and those pockets that sit slightly to the front. It is super simple but the cut and the fabric make it so effective. I bought it in-store two or three years ago and had to size down to a XS even though I am a solid 12. I just picked up what I hope is the same dress in navy on Vinted for £21 so I am hoping it has the same generosity of cut or I will be listing it on our Facebook page!
