How common is it for women over 40 to have chin hairs ?

I'm a 41 years old woman and I'm very embarrassed. I keep getting these chin hairs and I keep plucking them. I hear that unfortunately this can happen to women over 40 but I'm wondering how common is it.
Also what to do about it, other than plucking them with tweezers.

I have pcos so have chin hair

Used to get it waxed @ benefit make up desk
@ big boots

Currently pluck it as preg & they won't wax there when preg

TheIceBear · 09/12/2025 18:26

Very common. Gosh if you are only getting them now over 40 lucky you. I’ve had them since my 20s. No history of pcos or anything . Wouldn’t mind but my own mother is practically hairless. Never had to shave her legs or anything she doesn’t have any on them 😔

Another cruelty is that as you get older your eyesight worsens...

A few hairs have turned into tens! After plucking in the bathroom then looking in the car mirror the next morning the buggers have sprouted everywhere! I'm that lady you see in the car park with the tweezers frantically plucking lol 😆

You’re not alone in that 😆

notacooldad · 09/12/2025 18:33

I started getting chin hairs in my mid to late 30s. I can't remember exactly when.
They have been the bane of my life ever since and I am 60 now.
I have a lot of very strong, white ones as well as a few dark ones. They are an absolute menace. I have had electrolysis courses that have cost a fortune over the years, but of course they don't work on white hair.
I now have threading every couple of weeks as well as a tweezer pull in between.

Ucannotbeserious · 09/12/2025 18:34

Desperate to know what is the type of electrolysis mentioned that targets areas not single follicles! Couldn’t imagine the exposure of doing the tweezing in a car!!! At my wfh desk, light up x12 mirror and tweezerman tweezers.

Mrssweary · 09/12/2025 18:37

Hahahaha sorry I’m laughing because we are all the same plucking, waxing, burning them off , I do mine daily, though I sometimes forget, why do they come back I’m sure I take the root out!? I am past caring though if I go out sporting a few strays, gives people something to look at doesn’t it.

Monty34 · 09/12/2025 18:39

Welcome to middle age. Hair goes from where you want it and appears where you don't.

JournalistEmily · 09/12/2025 18:40

I’ve had them since my late 20s. But then I have polycystic ovaries and I’m sure they’re linked to that. They’re actually weirdly enjoyable to pluck..

Augustandeverythingafter1 · 09/12/2025 18:41

I wish my head hair grew as fast and as abundantly as my face hair.

Lovely13 · 09/12/2025 18:45

Menopause makes body hair even more weird. I miss my formerly strong eyebrows and lashes. Great that leg hair has all but disappeared. Not so keen on increasing amount on ‘bum fluff’ on face. Know that doesn’t help, but we are all in this hirsute problem together!

ChubbyPuffling · 09/12/2025 18:46

Meh, the joy of being menopausal and over 60... you don't care and you can't see 'em.

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 09/12/2025 18:50

No! I check mine before I put my contact lenses in, in a dark room with my phone torch. You can get every last one of them!

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 09/12/2025 18:55

Around forty ish is when these little beasties can make their debut appearance.

No warning you just wake up on morning and one has appeared to say hello.

Plucking them can do the trick as a temp measure. But electrolysis used to be the thing that really killed them off.

Hope this helps.

I have been saved by the fact that mine have turned white and I can hardly see 'em. Others can, but I'm 65 and beyond caring most days!

Some of mine are grey now and are so coarse! Xxx

Daftypants · 09/12/2025 18:59

No , but I do have a tache 😆 ( light hairs , not too dark on one side ?? Of upper lip )

Nincompoo · 09/12/2025 19:06

I’ve had hairs on my chin for as long as I can remember, and up under my eyes and have one hairy nipple. I’m mid 40’s although it has always been this way for me.

I quite enjoy pulling the chin hairs out, it can be immensely satisfying! Embrace the fun 🤣🤣

LittleGreenDuck · 09/12/2025 19:09

I'm late 40s and not seen any yet. Now expecting to wake up tomorrow morning with a full beard.

muddyford · 09/12/2025 19:10

They appear overnight too. No sign one morning, a quarter of an inch long 24 hours later.

I get one black one in my nostril. Used tooth pain stuff to numb and then pluck it. Agony otherwise.

Nowornever222 · 09/12/2025 19:35

What about lots of very dark soft fuzzy hair (but long and visible) on your lower back? Anybody?

Mine are particularly sneaky...some of 'em have turned curly!

I refuse to check!

PrincessSakura · 09/12/2025 19:41

I’ve had three since my 20’s, two of them grow out of a scar! I just pluck them as soon as they are long enough.

Silverfoxette · 09/12/2025 19:50

Electrolysis has helped mine as unfortunately I have inherited my mother’s full beard, the poor thing was plagued. I’ve been doing the electrolysis for two years now and went from every other week to once a month now. Occasionally I seem to get fresh ones
