Sporty thong back swimsuit

24kPalamino · 01/11/2025 17:02

Looking for a swimsuit that isn’t too low cut, that has a sporty look and a thong bottom.
struggling to find something sporty enough.
If anyone has seen or purchased something like this, then I’d appreciate a recommendation.

Many thanks!

@Mustbethat "men in close fitting swimwear is not acceptable." - what does this mean? Not acceptable to you? Or should be illegal? (There are literally thousands of men on beaches every day in continental Europe in close-fitting swimwear.)

There's a lot of interesting language on this thread - "parade around", "flaunt", "flash" etc. A lot of posters here would be horrified on Brazilian beaches, that's for sure!

BigGirlBoxers · 02/11/2025 18:23

When I see a thong, all I think of is a wedgie. It's never a good look.

I see a bike rack.

I actually like the current wedgy look!

DFOD is unnecessary. Suggesting that feminism is predominantly about choice is reductive - choice is important, but doesn’t trump the feminist principles driving @GehenSieweiter and others’ points, e.g. the freedom to question what may drive certain beliefs and behaviours such as why women’s clothing is typically more revealing than men’s in a society that is arguably still patriarchal. Questioning these things does not equate to criticising individual women for the choices they make within patriarchal structures; it’s about it opening up debate on the impacts of those structures at a societal level.

I don’t have an issue with thongs especially (life is too short to worry about anything and everything that could be problematic for women) and have worn revealing clothing myself on many occasions, but that doesn’t mean I don’t retain the right to question what drives and conditions women, including myself, to make such choices. It’s intellectually lazy to reduce feminism to choice alone; as an example, it reminds me of the early noughties when it was uncool to question glamour modelling, because the dominant media narrative were that these women were exercising their freedom to choose. Of course, at a simplistic level they absolutely were, but that simplistic narrative made it more difficult to look at the wider beliefs and attitudes driving this equivalence between female objectification and empowerment. That’s just an example (and I have no issue with celebrating and enjoying sexuality in a society where the founding principle is one of genuine equality between men and women) but excessive focus on choice at the expense of what drives our choices risks shutting down important, nuanced debate about how we make the world better for all women.

I agree feminism is about more than choice.

But it’s a big part of my femininity to feel sexually attractive. To be fit and beautiful and desired is one of the joys of being a woman - biologically so.

Why should men be able to revel in their sexuality, strut about and be sexually ‘out there’ but I have to cover up?

And why should I cover up when I don’t want to just because other women judge me?

OP’s talking about a thong swimsuit, not handcuffs and crotchless panties. It’s not sexual per se to show your arse cheeks, any more than showing a bit of cleavage is.

Wanting to appear 'sexually attractive' is basing your happiness on other's opinions.

If you follow that argument we wouldn’t wear makeup, get our hair cut nicely or wear nice clothes. Because who’s that for if not other people? Why? Because we want people to think we look nice.

Oh, I hear you say, but I do those things for me.

Why? You can’t see yourself. Only others can. You want them to think you look nice because it makes you feel confident.

Well, likewise.

I just know that when I’m 80 I don’t want to look back at my beautiful body and wish I’d enjoyed it a bit more.

I don’t like straps falling off my shoulders when paddling. I like a bit of firmness/structure at the top for practicality.

The bottom is where I like a bit of femininity to balance the look. And I also like a thong (ish) not a full on g string, for inside my wetsuit when I wear it.

I also simply like the look, and to get a nice tan when paddling.

I feel like I’ve suggested something really bizarre or vulgar here. Yet these costumes are sold to be worn, so I guess they appeal to some people.

It is really bizarre to want your bum cheeks on display in public. Really bloody weird and inappropriate.

Mustbethat · 02/11/2025 17:46

Funny though, if a man shopped for speedos or manikini’s to showcase his fabulous attributes, he’d likely be reported to the authorities.

men in close fitting swimwear is not acceptable. Personally I don’t like thong swimsuits for the reason below, but I also disagree with double standards and no one can complain if men want to parade around in speedos either.

and I stopped my dc swimming when I found out the boys had a WhatsApp group on “ones to watch”. It wasn’t about talent, it was about when they turned 16.

What do you mean “men in close fitting swimwear is not acceptable?!”

Male Club swimmers up and down the country are training in trunks. In fact I’ve spent all weekend at a meet where there’s swimmers walking around in trunks and swimsuits that are high cut.

No one cares or comments 🤷‍♀️

I’m assuming that poster never watched the Olympic diving competitions, either!

SabrinaThwaite · 02/11/2025 19:20

I’m betting the male divers go for the 5cm briefs, which is about as skimpy as they get.

But yes, briefs (Speedos / budgie smugglers) are standard for swim training and for men in general in pools on the continent.

Oh, not this line again. I've got a perfectly decent arse and am in no way jealous of other arses, I just don't need to see them. 🤣

I honestly don't give a hoot what anyone else thinks of my clothes, and certainly don't judge my overall feelings about life in those terms.

TalulahJP · 02/11/2025 19:27

🤮🤮🤮 I don’t want to see budgies being smuggled or arse cheeks hanging out, ffs people cover up a bit, it’s a family show…

PeonyPatch · 02/11/2025 19:32

My bottom is one of my best assets (badum tsssh) but my arse cheeks are for myself and hubby to enjoy only 👀 nothing wrong with some modesty!! I wouldn’t subject total strangers to my bum as sexy as i think it is!

This

notacooldad · 02/11/2025 19:35

This is the most bat shit style and beauty thread ever, and not from the OP.

The op asked a question on S and B . You've either got a recommendation, so fine or you havent, in which case you are not bringing anything to the post that is useful.
It gone from not wanting to see arse cheeks to cancer and all sorts of nonsense on between.
Op has even been asked to explain why she wants this style. I think the answer is, because thats what she wants shoukd suffice.
Even when she explained about being under a wet suit people are still judgey and being critical.
What is wrong with people? Can't you answer a question that was asked.

Op
Theres have a look on Etsy, put in black throng one piece.
There a few on Shein.
I think i read you've already ordered but they are alternatives.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 02/11/2025 19:50

Im still really confused about whether OP wants an actual thong (as in a literal string between arse cheeks) or just a very high leg cut over the bum?

I'm intrigued as I've never seen a sporty up top/ thong on the bottom suit.

Wouldn't a thong chafe on a 6 mile paddle?

NewbieSM · 02/11/2025 19:56

Op please ignore all the prudes, I understand what style you meant, it’s called a Brazilian cut swimsuit and they are VERY flattering on the bum and leg, I exclusively wear them at the beach and no one gives a shit. Also wouldn’t be too worried about skin cancer on your butt cheeks, If you are paddle boarding your shoulders back and arms will get far more sun anyway. Wear a hat and plenty of spf 50 and you should be fine. I live in QLD Australia and paddle board frequently, no sun burn yet so crack on and I hope your husband enjoys the view 🤭

Would cleavage be ok?

Or half a bum cheek?

How far up is the line between appropriate and inappropriate?

Just wondering what your verdict is.

It's not being 'a prude' to prefer not having to look at other folk's arse cheeks.

GehenSieweiter · 02/11/2025 19:23

Trunks aren't thongs.

You are right they aren’t.

But the paper said it was acceptable for men to wear tight fitting swimwear. Not it was unacceptable to wear thongs.

Hence why I and many other posters are questioning their opinion because it’s pretty standard in pools up and down the country.

Thank you for naming the style! That makes it easier. I found the perfect suit on tithe Youngbloods website (Australian actually!) but the delivery is £££. I might buy it anyway and have it delivered to Family in Aus. The straps cross across the back as well, which I always feel is a bit more secure. Plain black so looks nice on its own or under a wetsuit. Despite all of the negative comments I am glad I posted because I a couple of nice swimsuits out of this thread.
