Looking for a swimsuit that isn’t too low cut, that has a sporty look and a thong bottom.
struggling to find something sporty enough.
If anyone has seen or purchased something like this, then I’d appreciate a recommendation.

Many thanks!

You should look at Funkita - great quality and designed for sport swimming (not sunbathing). Filter by high leg for the kind of look you’re after.

https://www.funkita.co.uk/collection/658-ladies

I was going to suggest something like Funkita - just hoik them up your crevice to expose arse cheeks as required.

I can’t believe in 2025 so many people are troubled by thong swimwear, they’ve been around as long as I have and I’m not young.

Bum cheeks aren’t quite the outrageous sight they used to be. I’ve seen mini skirts out and about recently short enough to reveal cheek and completely sheer tops (without bras!). Surely nobody actually cares about seeing another ladies bum at the swimming pool/beach where partial nudity is expected?

I think it’s the perpetual sexualisation of women that many women are sick of.

You don’t see male paddle boarders getting their arses out while participating in the sport. You don’t even see men getting their arses out while lying around on the beach!

It’s just the need to make all women’s clothing hyper-sexualised at all times. It’s not a case of having vapours because an arse cheek was bared.

And as women we absorb societal misogyny on an unconscious level. Women insisting “they dress for themselves” while coincidentally also dressing for the male gaze is just proof that societal conditioning is alive and kicking - and it’s not women who benefit.

Happy Sunday morning! Only on MN would someone seek help in sourcing something and get lots of judgy comments.

Personally, i don’t like high waist trousers (for me, not comfy to sit in), ripped jeans or mini skirts. But if l see people asking about these things, l ignore and move on. 🤷‍♀️

If someone asks you directions in the street you (hopefully) don’t tell them way to somewhere else entirely.

Platypusdiver · 02/11/2025 06:03

OP you have been very calm in your responses. I can't believe the rudeness over a swimming costume!

I felt confident enough to ask because there’s another thread running where the general consensus is to wear whatever you feel good in and don’t worry about what people think. So I thought I was safe.

I was reading a disaproving thread about how rude shop assisstants. Reading it, gives the impression that being civil is a basic societal expectation. Until someone brings idea of a thong and a swimsuit together. Which just melts the mind and allows you to be as rude as you want 😂

Enjoy your paddle boarding. You must be going or living somewhere warm, as there would no chance of tanning in the uk right now.

FiveShelties · 02/11/2025 06:17

Wow OP I cannot believe some of the responses on here.

Most of the threads I read tell people to wear what they want. Honestly if my bum would look good in a swimsuit like that I would wear one. Enjoy your swimsuit and I hope you get lots of opportunities to wear it.😁

MrPickles73 · 02/11/2025 07:28

why would you want your arse hanging out? 🤮

SparrowFeet · 02/11/2025 07:33

It's unbelievable isn't it. There's another thread on here which is so lovely where an OP is asking for advice on a jumper/ dress combo. Clearly the goodwill has been drained on that one so people have come over here to be snippy.

I don't understand why people are arguing about the merits of a style that they themselves are not wearing and unless they're all avid paddle board enthusiasts / like to go to the beach with a notebook marking women's bikini and swimsuits out of 10 won't ever even have to look at.

I'm all for giving an opinion on Style and Beauty when asked for but continuously arguing when the OP has clearly said that's the style she wants to wear is pointless and a bit pathetic.

You see this argument when anyone mentions women in the gym.
Apparently women wear tight, revealing clothing because it’s the most comfortable and practical thing to wear when working out, but men seem to find baggy shorts and t shirts the most comfortable and practical thing to wear in the gym. Weird, huh?

SparrowFeet · 02/11/2025 07:51

Oh come on @MagpiePishes talking about swimwear. Men wear swim shorts and some even wear swimming trunks. You can't compare it to what women wear in the gym. Or are you telling me that when you go to the beach you don't wear a bikini lest you be subjected to the male gaze?

MagpiePi · 02/11/2025 08:03

All I’m saying is it odd that women hanging their arses out is supposedly a free choice or them being confident and bum cheeks aren’t offensive, and we’re all being prudish or controlling to comment on it, whereas men don’t seem to feel the same need or pressures to dress in a revealing way.
And before you say sexualised dressing is in the eye of the beholder, would you be comfortable seeing a 4 year old girl dressed in a mini skirt and pants that leave her bum cheeks bare? If not, why?

Interesting question (honestly!)
Well I suppose I'd probably feel differently because

  1. i would imagine that the 4 year old didn't dress themselves and so doesn't have the element of choice
  2. Adults tend to be sexually active and so being sexualised as an adult isn't anywhere near as inappropriate.
  3. Again we're talking about swimwear here - and what I think is fair enough in a pool/ on a beach is different to what I would think is appropriate in a shopping centre.
  4. You should see my gym - men absolutely do parade their bodies around!
  5. I think most women don't find budgee smugglers attractive on men and I think if they did you'd see more of them on the beach
By the way I'm sure if me and you had a long conversation about it we would agree a lot on beauty standard on men vs women, but I just think on this point we really are talking about beach wear in a situation where there is hardly anyone around as she's paddling out in the water. Even on a busy beach people tend to stay put it's not like you're walking around a busy town centre with your arse hanging out. It's not something to get worked up about.
GehenSieweiter · 02/11/2025 08:31

Is this for holidays or for actual pool swimming, because nobody wants to lane swim alongside someone in a thong, OK, nobody who's not a letch. Edit, I see it's for paddle boarding, same comment though.

GehenSieweiter · 02/11/2025 08:34

24kPalamino · 01/11/2025 21:18

I will and my husband will. Isn’t that enough?
I’ll feel good about myself. I mean, isn’t that what we all strive for?

Well, you do you, but I've never really cared about how tanned my butt cheeks are.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 02/11/2025 08:38

Why flash your bum cheeks instead of your boobs ?

Wishimaywishimight · 02/11/2025 08:43

I agree that tanned skin looks nice but please be cautious about sun damage / skin cancer - it's just not worth the risk.

leemead69 · 02/11/2025 09:18

Newmeagain · 01/11/2025 17:36

Quite!

Trust us here OP - my young adult DD is very sporty and into all sorts of water sports and activities. The last thing she would want to do is risk flashing her anus and everything else! 😄

Come on OP, this random woman's very sporty young adult DD wouldn't want a thong back swimsuit, so why should you? Surely her young adult DD who is very sporty and into all sorts of water sports and activities is the authority on all these things. Make sure you check with her next time before buying anything.

(Completely get it OP - I hate swimwear that isn't very high cut at the back because I'm forever having to hoik standard-cut swimwear out of my (normal, not extreme either way, sized-arse.) I wear baggy clothes in the gym so I'm hardly some sort of aquatic exhibitionist.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 02/11/2025 09:19

24kPalamino · 01/11/2025 21:22

Absolutely correct. That’s definitely what I said. That unless I am flashing my arse cheeks at strangers, life just isn’t worth living. 🙄

(I was talking about the tan).

To be honest, I didn’t realise there would be so much interest in my buttocks. I thought for the most part that no one would care or take any notice.

Edited

You thought no one would notice?

You are considering a £168 swimsuit so you can look better with an arse (which you can’t even see) the same colour as your legs. That idea hasn’t come out of a vacuum has it.

Just come back from holiday where there was a group doing fitness training in the sea. One woman had that design in her wetsuit. Given she had had full arm coverage and neck , gloves, hat, wet shoes it looked a bit performative with a neoprene wedgie. She had a great arse but yes you could see everyone was looking at it.

Anyway buy what you want. Hope you find something nicer than the free people one.

Jade3450 · 02/11/2025 09:28

Gosh all the prudes are out today!

OP, I bet you wish you hadn’t asked 😂

Yeah plenty of European men wear budgie smugglers. What they aren’t wearing is high waisted ones with the back specifically cut to show both cheeks. And they pretty much have both leg and pubic hair.

I’ve yet to see one women in this type of swimwear with any body hair on show.

It’s not just “wear what you want” because realistically it’s much easier to have no clothes on. It’s all conditioning on some level.

It's not remotely prudish to not want to display your arse or see to random other people's though.

Why focus on 'flashing' anything? It's sport, not a fashion parade.

I’m as feminist as they come but personally I love dressing ‘for the male gaze’. It’s very empowering and exciting.

I see being sexually attractive as a huge part of my femininity and I certainly wouldn’t want other women judging me for it.

Don’t you see the irony?

Displaying arse cheeks isn't the only way to be 'sexually attractive', plus basing happiness on other people's opinion of you isn't exactly empowering. I'd be more empowered by good my own sporting skill, or in admiration of OPs technique, than any arse cheeks.
