Do you wear leggings ?

I have worn them in the past with a longline jumper. When I say leggings, I mean the cotton type. Not something like Sweaty Betty lycra type leggings which in my mind are quite sculptured and shapely.

Rarely outside the house and not that often in the house. And if I do, for dog walking or gardening - I'll have a long top on - they aren't that flattering on many people. I'd rather wear walking trousers if I'm out walking the dog etc. I'm in my 50s...size 14.

I do wear them to gym and pilates - with hidden socks - so I'm not judge of anything obviously.

BunnyLake · 30/10/2025 13:52

Yes. Practically every day. I wear decent ones, not the ones that look like you’ve forgotten to put your skirt on. If I’m not wearing leggings then I’m wearing jeggings. I only dress for comfort now. My tops always cover my bum.

Ineedanewsofa · 30/10/2025 13:56

Fleece lined ones with jumper dresses and knee boots and sports ones for sports. IMO they are not a substitute for trousers under any non sports circumstances!

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 30/10/2025 13:56

I have two pairs of thermal leggings for Saturdays and Sundays after the gym (along with a pair of joggers). Never get worn any other time.

Proper gym leggings for the gym.

itsnotagameshow · 30/10/2025 13:59

I live in them (with long tops), my new discovery is H&M leggings (softmove I think they are called), amazing quality.

Ohnonotanotheronee · 30/10/2025 14:01

Not anymore. I used to when I was younger. I have a house pair and a sport pair for the gym. They don’t feel like proper clothing to me anymore, and there are lots of trouser options available that are as comfortable as leggings.

AsAliveAsYouNeedMeToBe · 30/10/2025 14:03

God no, never. Don't own any. They look sloppy, basic and lazy, like you gave up in life.

QueueThisWay · 30/10/2025 14:15

I wear with a hoodie or longline sweater and trainers for running errands or going for a walk at the weekend.

PizzaPowder · 30/10/2025 14:23

Yes.

I wear Mint Velvet leggings most days. Always with someithing long enough to cover my bum.

They're not as good as they used to be but they're still my favourite.

Odiebay · 30/10/2025 14:24

Yep. I wfh and they are comfortable. Always wear a longer top with them and hoodie etc.

Don't care if people think I'm a slob or have "given up on life".

EL27 · 30/10/2025 14:48

I do often (also didn't realise it was so controversial)

I do like them best with an oversized long jumper and chunky boots on

Just curious - what at do you wear when exercising?

greglet · 30/10/2025 15:03

Only when pregnant or exercising.

StepawayfromtheLindors · 30/10/2025 15:06

Only for Pilates. They look horrible on everyone outside the gym, why are they fashionable? I don’t want to see your crotch or cellulite thanks

TaupeRaven · 30/10/2025 15:08

Only running leggings. Sometimes I'll chuck them on with a sweatshirt if I have a day in the house, and perhaps if I nipped to the supermarket, but not if I was getting properly 'dressed' for being out in the world.

RaraRachael · 30/10/2025 15:11

Some really rude responses on here. If you don't like or wear them just say so.

I haven't given up on life, nor can you see my crotch because I always wear a long top with leggings or cellulite because at 63 I'm proud to say I haven't got any.

SliceofTosst · 30/10/2025 15:16

Yes. And I don't look cheap or chavvy.

My fave is with high boots and a rich coloured jumper like burgundy or forest green.

RaraRachael · 30/10/2025 15:20

@SliceofTosst sounds like a great look 😍

greengreyblue · 30/10/2025 15:21

I’m 54. Only when exercising.

Ohnonotanotheronee · 30/10/2025 15:30

I recently visited Italy. Whilst looking at the weather and what to pack, I came across a few things that said Italians would never dream of wearing leggings outside of exercise. I believe it is the same in Japan.
No point to my post other than it’s interesting to see how other countries view leggings.

WithIcePlease · 30/10/2025 16:03

Nearly all the time

Gym leggings, hiking leggings, shopping with trainers and a jumper and padded jacket.

I went to the theatre the other night in flared leggings with smart trainers and a smart jumper.

Around the house I always wear leggings.

I suppose I have quite an active lifestyle - a Saturday trip into town may involve walking 4k there or sometimes a 5k+ walk around the country park so it's rare that I'm out somewhere that doesn't involve a decent amount of walking and I wear trainers most of the time

DaphneduM · 30/10/2025 16:17

Absolutely not. I don't have a supermodel body, therefore it's a no for me. I prefer clothes that at least flatter me a bit - the people in leggings I see around the city where I live prove my point. I've yet to see anyone who looks fashionable or stylish in them.

Mimilamore · 30/10/2025 16:21

Yes… I sort of tried to change and do have some wider legged jeans and summer trousers but leggings are just so cosy, practical and easy, especially when it’s cold… no bunching up round the ankles, socks pull up over them and I m hermetically sealed. Prefer them to tights with winter dresses to…

RaininSummer · 30/10/2025 17:41

DiscoBob · 30/10/2025 12:46

No. They're not comfortable, they feel almost as restrictive as tights. I don't understand people who like 'slobbing around' in leggings. To me it's too restrictive. I wear baggy trackie bottoms and going out I wear wide jeans or baggy combat type pants.

It's funny how different we all feel about clothing. Leggings seem the height of comfort to me whereas baggy trackies or combats just annoy me and I feel like a scruffy bag lady and don't know what to wear on my feet as boots don't work.

henlake7 · 30/10/2025 20:09

Nothing wrong with leggings at all IMO. They don't suit every circumstance but they are great in the right situation.

I wear them for exercise, also I pretty much live in the Primark thermal ones in the winter (i wear them under dresses and skirts). I also often wear them after my nightshifts when I need something comfy. Last week I wore them to have an MRI scan, they were ideal for that!

I tend to wear them with oversized tops like band tees or chunky jumpers with either biker boots or converse. I'm an 8/10 and my legs are decent enough I think, although I don't like my middle showing. I never understand how people are brave enough to wear them with short tops.
I have quite a collection...black, coloured, flower print, also checks, leopard and skulls!😁
