Do you wear leggings ?

I have worn them in the past with a longline jumper. When I say leggings, I mean the cotton type. Not something like Sweaty Betty lycra type leggings which in my mind are quite sculptured and shapely.

I find it weird that so many people are anti leggings when I reckon a good 75% of women I see in my area are wearing leggings!
Its just the standard everyday uniform here....you stand out more if you arent wearing them!

Freebus · 01/11/2025 16:08

Only for exercise. I wore them in the 90s when I was 20 something and had a realisation back then that they really didn't suit me.

Maybe they would work instead of tights under a Skirt as pp are saying ? I feel they'd have to be thin leggings.

mazedasamarchhare · 01/11/2025 17:44

To bed yes. To go for a run yes. Like tights yes. Otherwise no, I prefer my jeans with decent pockets. But I really couldn’t give a stuff who wears what. Just be comfortable in whatever you are wearing.

No
only frumpy/overweight people wear leggings

This type of response demonstrates that much of the pressure on women to dress a certain way actually comes from other women.

Gosh, you really don't get out much, do you?

minishiteboard · 02/11/2025 09:35

@Somethingsnapped enough to see legs squeezed into leggings, sadly

Sillysalamander · 05/11/2025 14:39

Yes but always wear a long tshirt with cotton ones, so my bum is covered. I wear sporty ones with any type of tshirt

I’m not frumpy or overweight.egging are comfy and warm for day to day.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/11/2025 16:26

I don’t care what anyone wears. As I say, I wear them for the gym or occasionally at home.

but aren’t the people who say “I love them and wear them all the time - but I make sure my bum is covered up” basically just admitting that they don’t find them flattering?

I think for a long time it was a faux pas to wear them as bottoms rather than as a tights substitute and some people still have that mentality.

Don't we all often prioritise comfort over style at home? I love my joggers but I'm not leaving the house in them

Disturbia81 · 05/11/2025 17:31

Yea but only thick gym type ones in different styles

Gwenhwyfar · 05/11/2025 19:36

"I think for a long time it was a faux pas to wear them as bottoms rather than as a tights substitute and some people still have that mentality."

Well, yes, because they're as tight as tights. You wouldn't go out in a top and tights with no skirt, would you?

Zempy · 05/11/2025 19:39

No.

I wear joggers but I wouldn’t be seen outside the house wearing leggings.

Size 8. Live in SE. Age 60

No, but leggings are (or should be) thicker than tights and completely opaque.

You can get 200 denier tights that are totally opaque. You still wouldn't go out in them without a skirt because it would show every curve of your body. It's not just that it's unflattering, it's inappropriate.

You might not like it but it is completely normal to wear gymwear (ie leggings with a short top) on the street nowadays.

Well, if you're on the way to the gym it can be excused...

CrumblyMansion · 05/11/2025 20:42

Yes. I wear gym type ones for the school run (it’s a 20 min walk) they are the comfiest thing to walk in, as I power walk home.

Most of the other school mums wear leggings too.

I rarely wear them outside of the school run though.

MidnightMeltdown · 05/11/2025 20:49

Only for exercise or wfh

ThatPinkShark · 06/11/2025 02:53

But it looks very nice when paired with long boots

loosestrife · 06/11/2025 16:49

Yes, properly opaque ones, black or navy or dark olive green, in a comfortable merino blend with excellent pockets. They're soft, stretchy, thick but not hot, body-skimming but not tight. I'm very short; wide trousers or joggers look sloppy and scruffy on me, but these look relatively neat and disappear visually. (If you saw me you'd barely notice the leggings.) I wear them with trainers and a hoodie for exercise or dogwalking, with various jumpers and jackets, chunky boots, Docs or similar for errands. To be fair, I mostly wfh and wouldn't wear them into an office, but I greatly prefer them to anything else I could put on my legs.

BlazesBoylansHat · 06/11/2025 17:28

Nope!

I'm 5ft 9" & size 12 & my legs are arguably one of my best physical features. But i wouldn't be caught dead in leggings

I hate how they look on pretty much everyone.

I haven't worn them since about 2012.

There are SO many other nicer clothing choices!

BCBird · 06/11/2025 17:32

Yes with a long top. I'd like to switch to wide trousers but the problem is to get over my stomach there is too much material on the legs. Like the wide trousers on people. I small and rotund- not great on me🙄

CrushingOnRubies · 06/11/2025 19:56

Yes when going on a wet walk. I find them more comfortable to fit into wellies than jeans. And also to wear with waterproof leggings on top. Again just more comfortable. Always take a couple
of pairs to festivals because I tend to wear dresses and it’s a quick way to get warm without lugging around a pair of jeans with me
