Do you wear leggings ?

I have worn them in the past with a longline jumper. When I say leggings, I mean the cotton type. Not something like Sweaty Betty lycra type leggings which in my mind are quite sculptured and shapely.

I wear them to work (I work outdoors). Jeans are no good if it rains and leggings are better for wearing with wellies

Gettingbysomehow · 31/10/2025 07:21

No, they don't really suit older people. I sometimes wear jogger type leggings which are a bit looser for gardening or whatever.

PurpleFlower1983 · 31/10/2025 07:25

I used to but I have decided this year to stop.

I do wear yoga style leggings for the gym though.

Yes, I wear them for my outdoor volunteering for the same reasons, black gym ones (technical fabric), they fit into wellies and dry really fast if it rains.

SmoothCollie · 31/10/2025 07:30

No I wouldn't wear cotton leggings in public.

CeeJay81 · 31/10/2025 07:32

Yep regularly with long tops/dresses. I'm a pear with small waist and big bottom. A lot of trousers don't fit or feel comfortable.

dudsville · 31/10/2025 07:35

I used to. I loved the ease and comfort and the look of a tunic and leggings. I'm not a follower of fashion, and I'm aware they're frowned upon on MN, but for me I had a big style change. I'm just as comfortable now, dress as easily but there doesn't seem to be a roll for leggings in my life now. I hide some to wear under dresses in the cooler weather, but it just doesn't look right to my eye.

Yes. Instead of tights under dresses for work as warmer and longer lasting. With tunic tops and boots too. I don't care if they are a fashion faux pas.

Same. I wear them instead of tights. I'm large and tights are so uncomfortable compared to leggings, so anytime it's smart casual I'll wear leggings.

I only wear tights if I need to be particularly smart.

I wouldn't wear leggings out if the house without something covering my bum, same as tights, although I guess I might if I was really slim.

Irenesortof · 31/10/2025 07:43

Yes most the time in winter with a midi skirt and boots, or under trousers. They suit me and are comfortable and practical.

Myblueclematis · 31/10/2025 07:53

Only ever at home, I tend to wear something more substantial i.e. jeans, jeggings etc. when I go out.

I love them for just being indoors or outside gardening, they allow you to stretch and bend without digging in or pulling.

Last year I bought two pairs of velour leggings from Lidl, £4.99 a pair and they are just so warm and comfortable. For loafing about watching TV they are perfect and easily washed and dried.

EveryDayisFriday · 31/10/2025 08:10

For the gym or fleece lined ones at home if I'm cold.

It's funny how different we all feel about clothing. Leggings seem the height of comfort to me whereas baggy trackies or combats just annoy me and I feel like a scruffy bag lady and don't know what to wear on my feet as boots don't work.

Haha. It's true and it depends on your body shape, personality, natural sensitivity to cold and heat, how sensitive your skin is to fabrics etc.

Some people find close fitting clothes comforting. I also tend to wear quite baggy t-shirts a lot of the time.

And I absolutely despise bras! Haven't worn one since early 2018. No more horrific costochondritis! Saggy tits be damned! 🤣

As long as your comfortable that's all that matters x

EnchantingDecoration · 31/10/2025 09:19

Yes, each to their own. I like cotton/lycra leggings but couldn’t bear the feel of the fleece lined ones and didn’t find them particularly warm either..

Genuine q...who actually cares what other people think about what they wear?! Or am I old?!!!

I certainly don't as long as I'm comfortable and happy.

I don't like people being judgey and sneering about what others choose to wear.

Iliketulips · 31/10/2025 10:26

Admittedly, I'm about to go out to an exercise class (prefer cotton ones to expensive sculpted ones), but have had them on since 8am. I've been out talking to the neighbours and helping with a task - I don't care, I don't think they do either.

Mind you, has to be better than at 7am when I was out opposite talking to two neighbours in my dressing gown, two of us were in dressing gowns talking to a chap who lives opposite (if anyone thinks this is odd, we live in a long cul-de-sac, everyone is very relaxed and chilled out with eachother).

TheFlis · 30/10/2025 12:09

Not for anything but exercise or thermal versions under other clothes in winter. They are flattering on very few people.

This unless you are young and slim, to see someone overweight in them is not exactly attractive.

AxolotlEars · 30/10/2025 12:04

I wear leggings like others would wear tights

Exactly. That's how I wear them too. They replace tights, not trousers.

When I was at school one of the teachers wore leggings with a short top and our form teacher asked why she'd gone out in her stockings!

I don't exist to please your eye.

this may come as news to you.

AutumnCosy2025 · 31/10/2025 22:35

I live in them. All my tops are long. Definitely cover me down to my thighs.

I don't aim to please the general public's viewing. I don't care care about 'style' or fashion.

i wear clothes that suit my lifestyle. For practicality, comfort,

I don't give a flying fuck about judgemental twats who say stupid shit like lazy, slobbish, given up on life etc.

Clingfilm · 31/10/2025 22:41

Only for sport/gym. They make my arse cold and look unflattering for normal wear.

Jenpen31 · 31/10/2025 22:48

I am a huge fan of leggings.....always have been. So comfortable and affordable.....which is important in this current economic climate.
I have about 10 pairs currently. 2 pairs of sport leggings.....these are great and easy to dry on my airer now the weather has gone off and I cant peg out as much. The rest are different colours and some patterned! I wear with long tops or sweaters and either my bomber jacket or longer coat. They look good with both boots or trainers.
So versatile.
I consider myself as someone who takes care of their appearance and I try to look my best as much as I can. I certainly am not lazy or have given up on life!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/11/2025 10:38

Only for running. If I am WFH and know I will go for a run at lunch I might start the day in leggings/sports bra with a big sweatshirt or tee. I don’t think they look nice on me, and felt the same about skinny jeans. I’m not particularly fat (size 12) but have a small waist/big bum and thighs so there are other things that suit me far better.

Somethingsnapped · 01/11/2025 11:25

I love leggings, but I don't wear them instead of trousers, in the sense that I keep the bum covered. So under jumper dresses, or as an alternative to tights (which I also love) under dresses. That said, I do see people around me wearing black leggings with short tops, and I think it looks fine. Not my choice for myself, but fine on others, no matter their weight. I feel unpleasant undercurrents of a vague misogyny in many posts on here, criticising how others look in them, especially the ones that emphasise weight. It is just women's bodies, and we are all different shapes and sizes. Nobody has a 'perfect body' for their whole life. Why must we be so derogatory about others' appearances.

JDM625 · 01/11/2025 11:29

I haven't worn them since I was a size 8 teen.

A woman today had a skin coloured pair on and I did a double take because she looked naked.
