If you're 45+ do you wear tops/jumpers with slogans on the front ?

not necessarily the brand name, but a slogan of any kind.

I am wondering why anyone would want to wear something with any irrelevant slogan written on it e.g. Mint Velvet currently have a jumper with 'The Hamptons' written on the front. There is also one with thew words 'The Studio' in large print across the front. Just why and who wears these ?

I will wear some things with brand logos but dislike random slogans. I keep seeing teenagers wearing Nirvana t shirts, I loved Nirvana as a teenager but feel like I couldn't wear one as I would like like I was trying to be young....which weird.

notacooldad · 01/11/2025 08:39

I ha e never worn clothes with random slogans such as 'Good Vibes ' but I do wear band t shirts and sweatshirts but only of bands Ive seen.
Im 60 and this has always been my rule e kept for one occasion in 1977 when my aunty and uncle got me a Les Zeppelin t shirt that I loved. I still have it!

PracticalPixie · 01/11/2025 08:41

I'm 41 and avoid slogan things except maybe as pyjamas or at the gym

RicStar · 01/11/2025 09:25

I have loads of print tshirts all kinds of graphic / gaming etc stuff, dont particularly get sligan stuff normally, but I dont judge people who like that stuff, while we might not want to copy thier style, I think we can at least be kind about what people are wearing, as long as its been laundered recently.

StrongLikeMamma · 01/11/2025 09:44

The Hamptons - no.

But I wear the fabulous tops from this brilliant charity:

I’ll wear a Christmas jumper with something festive on perhaps. And a band t-shirt is fine. But random slogans along the ‘Be Kind’ theme are not for me. Even worse when the manufacturers think doing it in French somehow elevates it

I went right off Black and Beech when they posted in response to the Supreme Court ruling to say that trans women were women and then doubled down to say that feminism should include trans identifying men 🙄

Yes, very disappointing.

No not at any age, I don't want to pay to advertise a brand by wearing their loudly sloganned clothing and have rarely seen non brand slogans that aren't cringeworthy. I do, however, like the Tshirts from the Dandy star/ thats not my age collaboration with words like 'vintage' or 'wise' on. Tempted by those.

I’ve got a ‘Vintage’ one by Dandy Star. It’s a lovely cut and great quality.

In fact, one of my favourite t-shirts is by them. It features a skull with a top hat on and the words ‘choose love’. I wore it when I was 33, and it’s still going strong now I’m 51 😃

spoonbillstretford · 01/11/2025 10:56

Occasionally, but not often. I've got a Mads Nørgaard top I like which has the branding on, and also Osaka Superdry tops. Another one I wear for yoga is Un deux trois, cat, with four cats on.

ChaToilLeam · 01/11/2025 10:59

I hate slogan garments, always have. Straight to the charity shop with them, especially if they are "amusing". I don't like logos either. Band T shirts are as much as it gets.

letshavetea · 01/11/2025 11:03

Absolutely not!

My slogan hoodie has just arrived. It's quite niche.

Best Christmas jumper ever 👏👏👏

cuberoot · 01/11/2025 16:01

I don't like it but don't judge, each to their own.
I believe everyone should be able to wear whatever they like, regardless of size and age.

IMTHECRAZYOLDLADY · 01/11/2025 16:16

No I don't. I have nothing against it 9n other people, it's just not me. I also don't like logos in general

IMTHECRAZYOLDLADY · 01/11/2025 16:17

Christmas jumpers are an exception though.

ThePure · 01/11/2025 16:19

I wear band T shirts that I get from gigs I like. Those mean something to me and have nice memories. I wouldn’t have a random on with ‘The Hamptons’ on when I’ve never been there though.

I used to wear my original Nirvana T shirt that I’ve had since the 90s until my DD nicked it!

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 01/11/2025 16:25

I have one with Ferme La bouche on it which was something my gran used to say. I bought it because it reminded me of her.

HundredMilesAnHour · 30/10/2025 10:08

I have a Bella Freud jumper with 1970 on the front. Does that count as a slogan? Her 1970 range is iconic but I actually bought my jumper because I was born in 1970 and I’m trying to face up to my age.

I so want one! But that’s the only slogan that interest me!

I also covet one of these.

Christmas jumpers are an exception though.

I have a Christmas jumper with ‘Santa Hates Tories’ on it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/11/2025 17:13

I have a t-shirt from this excellent Birmingham based company that says, 'Tories lie bab' https://punksandchancers.co.uk/collections/adults?page=2

Adults

YES BAB. Ethically traded, organic cotton clothing and stuff.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/11/2025 17:14

And one that my daughter bought me that says, 'Buck Foris'.

Bluebay · 01/11/2025 19:03

I am in my 70s - I have a Metallica T-shirt, lots of computer game/D&D themed ones, Dr Who, NIN and a few randoms. My most recent says "It's weird being the same age as old people"
I also have a very controversial "Cradle of Filth" one which I have never dared to wear... maybe when I turn 80 😈
