If you're 45+ do you wear tops/jumpers with slogans on the front ?

not necessarily the brand name, but a slogan of any kind.

I am wondering why anyone would want to wear something with any irrelevant slogan written on it e.g. Mint Velvet currently have a jumper with 'The Hamptons' written on the front. There is also one with thew words 'The Studio' in large print across the front. Just why and who wears these ?

I feel like there are 2 types of middle aged woman.....
Those who are constantly worried about looking too old or too young and those who gave every f*ck they had to give already and now wear what they damn well like!😂

I’m 49 and wear things like that to my yoga classes, currently wearing Gilmore Girls and Harry Potter ones, I really need to grow up at some point!

I have a Gilmore Girls sweater from Amazon because I really needed a sweatshirt and love the GGs. It’s sooooo comfortable!! But I do feel a bit ‘agh’ wearing it out and about.

I inexplicably want a 1989 sweatshirt purely because they’re seemingly cool at the mo but logically I can’t understand why I would walk around with my birth year on my chest…? But I want to! The ones from Rock On Ruby have vinyl dates and thankfully that’s the thing that stopped me buying in a weak moment as I imagined and would prefer a fabric appliqué.

It’s like when I was a new mum and those ‘Mama’ sweatshirts were EVERYWHERE. I never did it but the peer pressure got me on their website hovering a few times!

ScupperedbytheSea · 31/10/2025 08:37

No, but then I've never liked slogans.

When I was in my 20s, I quickly discovered any kind of slogan provided the perfect excuse for knobheads to try and chat you up in bars and clubs.

It put me off permanently.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 31/10/2025 08:47

No, not even when a teenager.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 31/10/2025 14:52

This has reminded me of when I used to frequently go abroad and buy a shirt with the place name on. Sometimes I bought ones with the name of a bar we had visited on. It was a long time ago and I was young.

Cupofteaforyou · 31/10/2025 14:55

I'm 44 and I recently bought some with slogans about horses - but i only wear them down the stables/riding! That's pretty niche, and generally I think they're a bit naff.
I may consider one if I was seeing a band is all.

LovesToWalk · 31/10/2025 17:50

Yep - I do. I have a collection of book/reader ones that I wear to my book clubs.

DappledThings · 31/10/2025 18:34

My slogan hoodie has just arrived. It's quite niche.

I’m currently sitting on the sofa in a Primark slogan sweatshirt reading this thread…

Does it say Harvard? If we guess correctly, do we win a prize? (that isn’t a slogan jumper 😂)

Just remembered that I have a couple of Katherine Hamnett slogan T-shirts too, including the Wham classic Choose Life.

Can’t remember the brand but I also have a black cashmere jumper with ‘Ca Plane Pour Moi’ written in white. I used to wear it a lot 6-7 years ago so it’s pretty much trashed now and has retired to the back of my drawers. I used to live in France and had been through a bad time but turned the corner so the message resonated with me and it was a lovely soft sweater.

If I wear a slogan, which is usually very very occasionally, it’s because the slogan resonates with me or reminds me of something meaningful.

I had a KH 'Save the bees' tshirt that I wore and washed to death. Loved it, and I'm very big on saving the bees

DickDewey · 31/10/2025 19:55

I’ve got one of the Bella Freud 1970 jumpers, had it for years. If I’m honest, I wouldn’t wear it outside of the house.

My sister bought me one of her M&S jumpers. It has ‘kind!’ On the front. Again, I won’t be wearing it out. It’s a bit naff.

Quella · 31/10/2025 20:01

From years ago, but I still have this Tracey Emin T-shirt. Can’t remember the last time I wore it though.

I have a couple of charity hoodies - two from the Bumblebee Trust & one from the Brain Tumour Charity - both of which I support.
I also have several feminist ones from Spark - T-shirts & hoodies. My favourites are:
Obstinate headstrong girl - Jane Austen
Not fragile like a flower, fragile like a bomb
They can’t burn us all

Im 45 & wear what I want 🤷‍♀️

MardyAnn · 31/10/2025 20:17

I’ve got a few slogan ones, some song lyrics or band t-shirts and I’ve got some north/northern ones, a jumper that says day off which is a bit of a joke as I don’t have a job.
I’ve got loads of sweatshirts of places I’ve been to as well.

Gwenhwyfar · 31/10/2025 22:01

Yes, sometimes, mainly to bed or casual wear.
Reason why is liking the top otherwise.

ThatPinkShark · 01/11/2025 01:38

I think it might look a bit childish. I tend to wear solid colors more often.

W0tnow · 01/11/2025 01:43

I have a grey sweatshirt with Vogue on it. And a t-shirt. I have some other t-shirts from concerts. I have a Rod Stewart sweatshirt from the 70s. I have some graphic t-shirts that I wear with jeans and structured jackets. One of them is my birth year. 1969. So I guess the answer is yes.

Mydadsbirthday · 01/11/2025 05:09

mustwashmycurtains · 30/10/2025 10:56

I mostly hate them and don’t get it either OP.

Except I recently found myself drawn to one that said ‘Ooh La La’ which for some reason really tickles me. So I basically don’t have a leg to stand on here. If it had been a nice colour I’d have bought it

I had a designer t shirt with this on it which I bought about 20 years ago, I loved it!

I recently found it in a drawer and sold it on Vinted 😂

BlueEyedBogWitch · 30/10/2025 14:51

I have a few from Black and Beech, too. My favourite is a pink one that says, ‘On Wednesdays We Smash The Patriarchy’.

I went right off Black and Beech when they posted in response to the Supreme Court ruling to say that trans women were women and then doubled down to say that feminism should include trans identifying men 🙄

piscofrisco · 01/11/2025 07:45

I wear graphic T Shirts a lot under blazers or cardigans. More pictoral ones usually but sometimes words.
my current favourite is a vintage McDonald’s birthday party one. I’m 45. The trick is to have the rest of the outfit be sober and classic and then add a bit of interest with your top. I think anyway.

Middlechild3 · 01/11/2025 08:15

No not at any age, I don't want to pay to advertise a brand by wearing their loudly sloganned clothing and have rarely seen non brand slogans that aren't cringeworthy. I do, however, like the Tshirts from the Dandy star/ thats not my age collaboration with words like 'vintage' or 'wise' on. Tempted by those.

Ohnonotanotheronee · 01/11/2025 08:18

Not a slogan, but this thread has reminded me of when these were all the rage 😆

Guess who I associated with that?!

PiccadillyPurple · 01/11/2025 08:22

In my 50s. I've got a hoodie with the crest of my university on the front, and an All Saints sweatshirt with the brand on the front, but I don't wear them out very often because the weather rarely seems right for them.
