If you're 45+ do you wear tops/jumpers with slogans on the front ?

knickerbockerglorywithcream · 30/10/2025 09:53

not necessarily the brand name, but a slogan of any kind.

I am wondering why anyone would want to wear something with any irrelevant slogan written on it e.g. Mint Velvet currently have a jumper with 'The Hamptons' written on the front. There is also one with thew words 'The Studio' in large print across the front. Just why and who wears these ?

Not sure you would get all that on jumper

mustwashmycurtains · 30/10/2025 10:56

I mostly hate them and don’t get it either OP.

Except I recently found myself drawn to one that said ‘Ooh La La’ which for some reason really tickles me. So I basically don’t have a leg to stand on here. If it had been a nice colour I’d have bought it

Fgfgfg · 30/10/2025 10:58

I still have some Class War t shirts from the 1980s but am sorely tempted by a Northern t shirt.

grrrlatrix · 30/10/2025 11:03

Nooooo. Never ever. Not my thing at all.
But I would also feel absolutely ridiculous wearing something with a designer brand name on.

leakycauldron · 30/10/2025 10:09

I'm only 40 but I wouldn't not wear them.
I love graphics and typography so anything that has graphics and nice typography on it I would wear.

I do have to roll my eyes at the Yale and Harvard sweatshirts in Primark though.

Lol right? I wonder if Oxbridge will ever capitalise on their names and licence out to Primark. If they did it’d probably go down better in the US stores than here.

Bonjamin · 30/10/2025 11:50

I've got a NORTHERN hoodie that my DSis gave me for Christmas - I wear it to the gym down south and I love it. I'd love it even more if it had reet? or ga'an yam or similar on the back.

Scrollers · 30/10/2025 11:53

I bought a Kooples sweatshirt and had to sell it on Vinted - it just wasn’t me

BestZebbie · 30/10/2025 11:54

I have some jokey fandom type unfitted t-shirts with a picture and a caption that I wear when exercising, or very occasionally under dungarees when it is hot as they aren't tight under the arms.
I wouldn't wear them to the office!

Branleuse · 30/10/2025 11:55

Yes i do. I quite like some ive seen on Joanie, and ive got a couple of primark slogan jumpers. One says rock n roll, and one says iconic.

Im late 40s, and i love clothes.

Not so much brand names tbh, but i might if it was retro, i guess.

TheChosenTwo · 30/10/2025 11:55

No, I don’t like anything with any obvious branding or logos or slogans.
I don’t mind a very discreet something,
my sweaty Betty stuff has the 4 dots on the back of the neck or leggings, I’m okay with that. The adidas 3 stripes I’m also okay with down the side of a sleeve. Also for the gym!
but my regular day to day clothes, no way.
And then dh bought me one of those mark jacobs tote bags - I was gobsmacked 😂 we’ve been together over 20 years and he’s never seen me wear anything or carry anything with such obnoxious branding!

Branleuse · 30/10/2025 11:56

Oh and i have loads of band tshirts

GentleSheep · 30/10/2025 11:57

At least half my T-shirts have various designs printed on them. Not my jumpers, though. Also may have a hoodie with a name on it, not a brand but a particular YT channel!

Branleuse · 30/10/2025 11:59

Thats made me think actually. I wouldnt wear a mark jacobs bag or a designer logo like that, but ive got a ' head' duffel bag with logo because it made me nostalgic for school. I would wear some logos but not others. I dont mind Vans logo or those sort of brands that are casual.
I think im.probably just stuck in the 90s

drspouse · 30/10/2025 12:00

T-shirts yes, mainly feminist or from Joanie.
Jumpers definitely no. I'm in my 50s.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 30/10/2025 12:04

I have hoodies and tshirts with well-known American college names on them. My kids did go to those colleges though so perhaps that’s acceptable.

And several tops with LLBean on them which is mandatory for anyone living in New England. You’re not actually allowed in the Subaru dealership unless you’re wearing one.

DramaAlpaca · 30/10/2025 12:06

I won't wear anything with a slogan or an obvious logo, so no. I don't even like T shirts with a design on. I bought one recently that I thought I'd wear on holiday but it's not me, I didn't feel right in it. I don't mind branding on trainers I like eg Adidas and Vans, but that's about it.

pumpkinscake · 30/10/2025 12:08

Hate them, avoid like the plague

EstherGreenwood63 · 30/10/2025 12:09

Depends on the slogan....no LOVE/KIND/ETOILE bollocks but I like my comme ci comme ca tee.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 30/10/2025 12:10

I have a huge hoodie with 'I am silently correcting your grammar' on the front. It was a birthday present years ago and I do wear it sometimes, particularly when I'm speaking (I'm an author, so everyone thinks I'm doing it anyway. And sometimes I am...)

CardiganCat · 30/10/2025 12:18

I’m 45 and don’t like random slogans like ‘be kind’ or place names on my clothes, but I do wear T-shirts with my favourite singers/bands sometimes and I have a ‘cis my arse’ top.

Gowlett · 30/10/2025 12:19

I wore them a lot when I was younger.
I have small boobs, so the look suited me.
Think of the 90s / 2000s with low-risers.

I don’t like brand names, never have.
It would be “Harvard” “Bonjour” etc…
I still like them, and wear them in summer.

DH wears band t-shirts, with jeans.
We’ve talked about retiring our slogans…
But, can’t see him a polo shirt & chinos!

FIaps · 30/10/2025 12:25

I have band tshirts - of bands i actually listen to / go to their gigs. I wouldn't wear a meaningless slogan or brand name.

Mikart · 30/10/2025 12:53

No.. Never have

BeforeIdo · 30/10/2025 12:56

I've got a tshirt with "she needed a hero so that's what she became".

I bought it as part of my getting back on my feet plan after DH died and I love it.

I also have a sweatshirt with "I can and I will, watch me."

I'd like some more similar, but I'm fussy about the design/font, as well as the slogan so I'm struggling to find them.

Oh. I also have "Underestimate me, that will be fun", which I thought I like'd the most but am slightly embarrassed to wear 😄
