If you're 45+ do you wear tops/jumpers with slogans on the front ?

not necessarily the brand name, but a slogan of any kind.

I am wondering why anyone would want to wear something with any irrelevant slogan written on it e.g. Mint Velvet currently have a jumper with 'The Hamptons' written on the front. There is also one with thew words 'The Studio' in large print across the front. Just why and who wears these ?

I have some Spark t-shirts.

I have ‘nevertheless she persisted’ and ‘I incite this meeting to rebellion’

don’t give a fuck if someone thinks they’re naff.

I’m 51.

Yeah this. ^ IDGAF what anyone thinks of what I wear. I rarely wear slogan t-shirts, but have been known now and again to wear a band T-shirt (been to LOADS of music concerts,) and also a T-shirt of one of my 5 or 6 favourite cult TV shows. (And like several others, I wear Christmas tops! In December (obvs!)

So much snobbery from some people on here. 😆 You can always depend on Mumsnet! And good for @JaneJeffer for posting the pics of Princess Di - wearing slogan T-shirts/tops. Blew the 'only commoners wear them' theory out of the water!😂

I don't care if the slogan is the brand name, so long as I like the design of it and the font. If it's ugly I won't wear it. I wouldn't buy it for the brand name though it would be for the colour and style of it. I wouldn't wear one saying The Hamptons because I've never been there and I don't even live in America. I don't have a studio either or ever go to a place of that name so I wouldn't wear that. If it said Happiness or something that's fine though.

Loved a slogan top (and necklace) as a teen but I had a school /college friend who found them embarrassing and told me. I hadn't realised how much I'd taken it to heart and have been dismissing them as naff for over 2 decades but recently allowed myself to buy a very hippie one, which I will probably mostly wear to the gym, but it makes me inordinately happy to reclaim this part of myself.

Edited to say I wish I still had my Sunnydale High t-shirt, bought from As Seen On Screen before it went fast fashion😂

Edited

Funnily enough, a close friend of mine really hates leopard print and I did the same as you. Hadn't worn it in over 20 years and recently realised I'd subconsciously been put off by her commenting all that time ago that it's tacky. I've now come to really like it!

dressinggowns · 30/10/2025 15:21

@JaneJeffer They are the style sweats I like, quite retro and preppy.

Cynic17 · 30/10/2025 15:22

No. Tacky.

You wouldn’t want to wear a sweatshirt with Mickey on it where I come from Grin

bridgetreilly · 30/10/2025 15:25

I do! I have t-shirts that say things like ‘Once again I have decided to be difficult’ and ‘Turns out these are my monkeys and this is my circus’. I am really enjoying using my clothes in a different sort of way.

Topseyt123 · 30/10/2025 15:27

Most of my t-shirts have transfers and pictures on them related to places I have been on holiday etc. so I suppose I do wear them.

I'm 59 and literally couldn't give a shit what anyone thinks about my clothes style, or lack of it. I dress for me and for comfort. Anyone who wants to can judge away! 😎

GeorgeBeckett · 30/10/2025 15:35

I have a couple of Sezane ones. One says Amuse Bouche, one says Amour Cafe Crème. They make me smile. Also have a Passenger one that says Coastlines and Tall Pines.
The slogans are all things that I like!

Ohnonotanotheronee · 30/10/2025 15:36

No, but I have a few ‘house’ t-shirts that have New York for example, on the front. They are ones I wear in the warm weather if I’m staying in.
Other than that, I can’t carry off slogans. I’m not fun enough and prefer beige or black jumpers.

Princess Diana - queen of the chavs

Over 45? 😉

Yennefer17 · 30/10/2025 15:42

I'm 45 and I wear them.

Itworkedout · 30/10/2025 15:43

I have one, I’m quite particular about what they say and look like. It’s a sweatshirt that I wear with leggings on an indoor day if that helps. I couldn’t understand the Berkeley sweatshirt phase huge logo across the back they look warm though!

SardinesOnGingerbread · 30/10/2025 15:48

Not for me, but to each their own x

pizzaHeart · 30/10/2025 15:49

Occasionally, and it’s only tshirts.
For some reasons slogans rarely look good on me.

Crikeyalmighty · 30/10/2025 15:50

Closest I get is the occasional band t shirt ( work in music) usually with a hoodie over it

Shegotanology · 30/10/2025 16:05

My tween wears a lot of logo stuff. I can't bear writing, of any kind, on my clothes.

nocoolnamesleft · 30/10/2025 16:12

Not exactly slogans, but I do have some merch T shirts from some great events.

evilharpy · 30/10/2025 16:14

BlueEyedBogWitch · 30/10/2025 14:51

I have a few from Black and Beech, too. My favourite is a pink one that says, ‘On Wednesdays We Smash The Patriarchy’.

I really want this one!

I have a few, favourites include Smash the Patriarchy and a Mean Girls quote. Also have a Bella Freud one that says Oh Wow and a few yoga-related ones from Eden Ashram. Would never wear anything related to kindness or other "nice" behaviours/feminine traits.

Fishingboatbobbingnight · 30/10/2025 16:15

Nope never. Slogans turn good clothes instantly naff

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 30/10/2025 16:20

All the time, Women/Female ones, I have loads, band ones, brand names etc.
I'm 47 and passed caring what anyone thinks.

WhiskyandWater · 30/10/2025 16:26

I do, love a Bella Freud jumper and have a few of them that get rolled out.

AliasGrape · 30/10/2025 16:33

Couple of band t-shirts/ graphic t-shirts, mostly I tend to sleep in them as I’ve never felt like I could pull off that kind of look out of the house, but increasingly not giving a fuck and wearing them anyway these days. I’m 46.

And a couple of sweatshirts with logos/ brand names/ slogans on - I wear them on the school run under a coat or with my leggings when I go to Pilates and I bought them because I like the feel/ colour and it’s hard to find plain ones, I’m not spending big money or loads of time searching for a sweatshirt honestly, I don’t care enough.

I also have one with an American city on it. It’s a city I lived in, and had to leave to come back to the UK suddenly and in sad circumstances, some friends there sent me the sweatshirt along with a few other local treats ‘so I didn’t forget my time there’ and I wear it all the time, it’s a real comfort thing. I was wearing it before Primark started dedicating approximately a third of its floor space to stuff with American cities/ states emblazoned across it, and I’ll keep doing so as and when I feel like it.

Mossstitch · 30/10/2025 16:43

Afraid I'm 'naff' then as wear them all the time and I'm well into my 60s, my taste hasn't changed just because I've got old, still like what I liked when young🤷‍♀️ think my first one was the Levi one which I still see being sold nearly 50 years later!
