If you're 45+ do you wear tops/jumpers with slogans on the front ?

not necessarily the brand name, but a slogan of any kind.

I am wondering why anyone would want to wear something with any irrelevant slogan written on it e.g. Mint Velvet currently have a jumper with 'The Hamptons' written on the front. There is also one with thew words 'The Studio' in large print across the front. Just why and who wears these ?

Not slogan as such, I have FDNY sweatshirt that I would live in if I could 🤣

Starlight1984 · 30/10/2025 10:28

I have about 5 of these that I wear round the house with joggers / leggings and for exercise but not to go out in... They're cheap and comfy.

Depends on the slogan. If it has relevance to me or something I like, then yes I would. For example, I’ve got band tees and a couple of sweatshirts and tees that refer to places or films or books I love.

I wouldn’t wear something that said ‘The Hamptons’. But I probably wouldn’t shop in Mint Velvet either and I definitely don’t give a shit how old I am.

orangewasp · 30/10/2025 10:32

No, but I never have. I don't have any negative thoughts about those that do, people should wear what they like (regardess of age)

WhyOhWhyEightyTwo · 30/10/2025 10:33

Me and my friend and friends 22 year old daughter are going to see Take That next summer, the daughter has bought us all tops that say I ❤️boy bands across the front, I think this is hysterical and will definitely wear it.
In general though I wear what I want and I don’t consider age when picking outfits.

FourFiveEightNine · 30/10/2025 10:37

Just remembered I do own a beautiful

Simeon Farrar t shirt.

with a word emblazoned across the front. It’s a gorgeous thing, but I feel a bit of a fool wearing it …

sloshis · 30/10/2025 10:37

Yes, I wear T-shirts under blazers that have slogans/print (not the live, laugh, love kind). Adds detail to the look or can dress down the blazer. Of course I’ll stop the day before my 45th birthday though 🙄

AwakeNotThruChoice · 30/10/2025 10:38

Definitely not. I don’t even like tops for my children with words on.
Just not my style.

Also I think I’d feel silly if my top said something like ‘Running Club Paris” when I’m not in the Paris running club. (Just a crap example)

Bonjamin · 30/10/2025 10:39

I’d like M&S to do a more representative range of cashmere jumpers with NO, THANKS, IT’S WHERE YOU LEFT IT, and FINE.

Hoppinggreen · 30/10/2025 10:40

Only at Christmas
Having said that I do have a Medusa "smash the patriarchy" one I like to wear to make DS roll his eyes

smallsilvercloud · 30/10/2025 10:40

I don’t only because I don’t like drawing attention to myself, only exception is an oversized tshirt for sleeping in has a slogan. I don’t judge others that wear them.

dressinggowns · 30/10/2025 10:41

I do wear my FBI sweat when cleaning & add in action rolls, drawing my gun, meaningfully looks at stains etc to pass the time.

Astrabees · 30/10/2025 10:42

Sometimes, I have a couple of Whistles sweatshirts with words on them and keep an open mind about new purchases. I’m not ruled by any iron rules about what is and is not bad taste.
I’m 69 and if I could afford an Anine Bing sweatshirt I’d not mind her name being on it.

museumum · 30/10/2025 10:42

I have a hoodie that says 'Make tea not war'. I love it :) Very casual wear obviously, camping and weekends by the kids sports fields...

Pinkladyapplepie · 30/10/2025 10:47

Only one I have says NORTHERN on the front. I wear it to be annoying to certain ppl who think northerner are somehow a lower class, when I actually know we are vastly superior 😂

Ineedanewsofa · 30/10/2025 10:47

I was going to say no but then thought about my wardrobe and I do own a few bits with brand logos/names on (Sports sweatshirts mainly) and two slogan t-shirts but they’ve definitely fallen out of rotation over the last few years.
I don’t think I would buy anything new with a slogan on, I don’t really want to encourage people to stare at my boobs 🤣

ginasevern · 30/10/2025 10:47

No I don't. And I get sick of seeing what looks like a really nice, comfy top only to discover it's got a bloody slogan plastered on the front.

tinymoon · 30/10/2025 10:48

I wear two jumpers with place names on, mainly because I was given them as gifts and I think it would be a bit silly to reject them because I’m over 45. I also haven’t got endless money, so I do wear gifted clothes if they’re not too offensive to my tastes.
Can I just be pedantic though and say that a slogan is a short phrase, words on an item of clothing are not necessarily a slogan.

Strokethefurrywall · 30/10/2025 10:50

I live in a hot country so never get a chance to wear sweaters but the only one I do wear is at Christmas and it says “Now I have a machine gun. Ho Ho Ho”

Sorry, just wanted to be a part of the conversation.

Floisme · 30/10/2025 10:50

Not logos but I've just bought a T shirt with a slogan because I agree with it.

TheThingsYouDoForLurve · 30/10/2025 10:50

Not even to bed.

In fact, especially not to bed (thinking of nightwear that says things like ‘Slumber Babe’ or whatever on them. Bleugh.).

DappledThings · 30/10/2025 10:51

Not usually but I just ordered one from Quires and Places Where They Meme

I love this!! I want one! (I’m also Northern but living in London)

Edit: It reminded me that I need to find my old T-shirt (that is now far too small for me) that says “Hard Northern Bitch” on the front and “Security” on the back. It’s actually an old band T-shirt from my best friend’s husband’s band that I used to wear to the gym. Dammit I need to find it!

Mollydoggerson · 30/10/2025 10:10

Sometimes, I literally do not care. I work from home, clothes are for comfort. I m almost blind to the occasional word salad added to clothes. I have some primark hoodies that have some words on them. I don't care.

Clothes judgment and clothes police are annoying.

Edited

But fair enough discussion on the style and beauty board I think?

TheVeryThing · 30/10/2025 10:55

No, I don't but mainly because my teen sons (and possibly dh) will start to analyse and take the piss, which is incredibly irritating. Now, a slogan addressing that issue might be appealing.
