Explain the shiny, 'raw' looking faces everywhere nowadays... how is it achieved?

Hi all, I am old enough to no longer know what the beautiful young things are doing to their skin.... This shiny, skin scrubbed raw look is a mystery to me. I love the older dewy, fresh natural look, but this is another level and it looks a bit much in my humble opinion. However, I'd love to know what they're doing to achieve this look? As someone who focuses on using simple products with very gentle, natural ingredients, I expect I won't want to partake, but I'm willing to be converted!

Vaseline face as it's known in this house 😂

Jezzballs2000 · 12/10/2025 11:28

Can you post any pictures? I can't quite picture it!

LifestyleChanges · 12/10/2025 11:29

Is this in RL or SM?

TeaRoseTallulah · 12/10/2025 11:29

I think it's one of the many things that looks good on Instagram but ridiculous in real life.

ChiaraMontague · 12/10/2025 11:30

I saw a salon advertising a “glass gleam” facial the other day and the promo picture did look like the model’s face had been coated with Vaseline!

WildCherryBlossom · 12/10/2025 11:33

Yup. One of mine aspires to Korean “glass” skin and slathers on Vaseline in an attempt to create something that is impossible on various levels (filters / AI / genetics etc)

Catpiece · 12/10/2025 11:33

I must be in fashion then as I have greasy skin that needs constant blotting with face powder 🤷‍♀️

scalt · 12/10/2025 11:35

They’re latex masks with smiles painted on them, like Boris Johnson and Tony Blair and other tyrants wore while in office,

WhiteRoseHurt · 12/10/2025 11:36

Since having Botox my face is much shinier. Perhaps it’s that?

Breli · 12/10/2025 11:38

What sort of ingredients do you deem natural? Just olive oil (or the equivalent), and a salt or sugar scrub would probably do it.

I use a salt scrub, but need a moisturiser as too much oil makes me too greasy. I like the Medik8 ones, but that might not fit your criteria.

nellly · 12/10/2025 11:39

Yes! I was at a hotel this weekend and the am at breakfast saw this look a lot!! Very freshly scrubbed, no make up and paired with lip filler

Zhu · 12/10/2025 11:42

I saw someone at a train station whose face literally looked slick with a thick layer of Vaseline. Like she’d been set in aspic.

Mygardenandme · 12/10/2025 11:43

It's basically lots of glossing products or products designed to add "glow" eg oil based serums.
I know if I tried it, I would just look greasy and/or sweaty.

Darkdiamond · 12/10/2025 11:44

It's botox!

PuppyMonkey · 12/10/2025 11:44

Somebody post a pic please.

Just google "glass skin".

NotsosunnyShropshire · 12/10/2025 11:45

It’s a Korean beauty thing. Glass skin. No pores, blemishes, dark circles or facial hair.

SulkySeagull · 12/10/2025 11:46

It’s Botox

minipie · 12/10/2025 11:47

Glass skin is what you’re seeing and it basically isn’t achievable for anyone over 29 imo, and not for quite a few under 29 either.

I am no expert but would imagine it requires quite a lot of exfoliation eg glycolic acid. And then lots of moisturiser. And then something glowy like the Charlotte Tilbury flawless filter.

KeepTalkingBeth · 12/10/2025 11:51

I find the glass skin look really odd. It makes people look sweaty and unwell IMHO. The people sporting it are usually beautiful, probably blessed with lovely skin anyway. A strange thing to do to your face.

babyproblems · 12/10/2025 11:51

for those asking for pics: first pic is what I imagine this is what they are aiming for with the whole glass skin / clean girl makeup trend (was originally a Korean beauty trend) second image is the reality which is a bit overkill irl (and I don’t even think this is too ‘bad’ an example!!)

Ah yes, glass skin is it. I suspected some sort of acid peel... but yes add botox and oil and voilà... Vaseline face describes it well! It's so intriguing... going to such lengths to look uber natural that it ends up looking uber fake. I'm going to call it neo-natural.

Is that the look Corrie's Abbi is sporting?
Looks like an overdose of moisturiser not rubbed in.

CrostaDiPizza · 12/10/2025 12:00

My hidden post was a link to a magazine article on how to get glass skin.
