Does wearing these make me look like a racist ….

I bought these as cheap practical wellies for the winter… fit well. But just put them on for a country walk with friends and the union jacks feel v prominent and with all the flag loonies making me worry about the message I am sending. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/tuc146088210?rec=PDP%5Btuc145899740%5D:attLightbox:extras:ARE:xsell:tuc146088210:YJYTGDGaZVn8xtAXUEAL not worn yet… click and collect so easy to take back. Considered just colouring the flag in . I can’t believe I’m feeling this way but would hate to make anyone feel intimidated.

taken them off and will wear other shoes. What would you do. A bit annoyed by it tbh having our flag stolen by these people.

No they don’t.

Holluschickie · 12/10/2025 10:06

I am brown and I wouldn't give a shit about your wellies. As long as you werent shouting or intimidating me.

QueenMummyTheFirst · 12/10/2025 10:07

Honestly, I would feel the same as you, and never feel comfortable wearing them. Sorry.

Icreatedausernameyippee · 12/10/2025 10:09

Your wellies do not make you look even a little bit racist. If you paint on a St George, yeah probably. They just look like wellies.

Zhu · 12/10/2025 10:10

If we overreact like this to every sight of a flag, the the racists have won. We need to normalise it in non-racist situations, like being on the side of a welly. I think you’re fine.

Holluschickie · 12/10/2025 10:10

I think I would assume you bought them on sale or didnt notice logo.
If you were part of the Tommy Robinson rally I might assume differently.

Attictroll · 12/10/2025 10:11

Just ordered the non flag ones due to the 20% offer and will compare before wearing. More don’t want reform supporters thinking I agree with them either

No. But it's really sweet and kind of you that you actually consider this, and it's appreciated.

Have a lovely time!

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 12/10/2025 10:13

I wouldn’t even notice that, no one will be looking closely enough at your feet to see those surely?! But if you’re going to be worrying about it when you’re wearing them I’d return them, it’s not worth the mental headspace.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 12/10/2025 10:13

They're just wellies. I have similar but different, never occurred to me to consider they make me look racist 😂

It's a union flag, the national flag of the UK. See also minis and their not racist rear lights...

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 12/10/2025 10:13

Oh cross post, problem solved!

Attictroll · 12/10/2025 10:14

My parents are reform supporters and I find it v difficult a lot of flags round here ☹️

TimSamandLulu · 12/10/2025 10:14

I was expecting to see red white and blue Union Jack covered wellies like Geri Halliwell’s dress. That’s small and subtle and looks like a logo so don’t worry about it if you like them otherwise.

EBearhug · 12/10/2025 10:14

Doubt I'd even notice on those.

Sprigattito · 12/10/2025 10:15

I'd feel the same as you op! I grew up in NI, where flags were quite often a sign of aggression, so I avoid them. Especially union Jack's and St George's crosses.

I felt really weird when I went to a school here I england and they had william of orange on a big banner in their canteen. Appreciate that is not a problem most people will have though

Attictroll · 12/10/2025 10:15

The non flag ones though don’t have such a sturdy base.

OP posts:
OrsolaRosso · 12/10/2025 10:16

The presenter on BBC news this morning had a Union Jack skirt on......

ClaredeBear · 12/10/2025 10:17

Hmmm…I think only now you come to mention it but I don’t think I’d notice, tbh. I might just think they were make in the UK.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 12/10/2025 10:17

Honestly I wouldn’t associate those with reform. Lots of things have the Union Jack on them. You can’t just reclassify everything as racist due to a flag.

ChaToilLeam · 12/10/2025 10:18

No, don't be daft.

Kick them with your UJ wellies, that'll show them.

Sunshineandrainbow · 12/10/2025 10:19

no they don't, I thought they were going to be blue red and white.

oakpie · 12/10/2025 10:19

I think the Union Jack is fine and it’s the English flag associated with the far right groups. But Next do a similar pair that are Matt black and fur lined for £20, really comfortable.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 12/10/2025 10:19

Jesus is this what we've become. It's a pair of bloody Wellington boots!

Let's stop all England sports teams, they must he racist as well. Same with the Team GB atheltics teams. Let's stop wearing anything that has a Union flag on, even if it's made in Britain.

Howldens · 12/10/2025 10:21

I think I might assume that you intended to convey your political views by wearing them, yeah. And I definitely wouldn’t wear them for fear others also thought that!!
