Anyone want to talk Autumn shopping wish lists?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 27/07/2025 14:52

I know it’s not even August yet, and I’ve still not gone on my summer holiday yet - but there’s a chill in the air, I’ve packed a box of freshly picked blackberries in the freezer for autumnal crumbles and while looking for school uniform today, noticed quite a few burgundy items in shop windows.

So what’s on your autumnal shopping list?

Im after a pair of black knee high boots. (My old ones finally had to be retired last year, beyond what could be repaired.)

I’ve just bought a dark brown cashmere jumper on vinted. Am now going to start the hunt for the perfect dark green cashmere jumper or cardie.

I think I need new work trousers but not sure what shape we’re doing this year. (Wide leg ? That doesn’t work well with puddles.)

Anyone else with a list for when the new season starts arriving in the shops?

Wow. Beautiful. Will you get the set? There’s something really comforting yet classy about wearing brown in the autumn.

Agreed. I absolutely love it and think it is just perfect autumn vibes. It’s quite pricey so I’m debating it. Looks lovely though.

That’s so lovely I love Oxblood for autumn too.

what boots will you wear with the chocolate suede trench Talisisin and the Oxblood BangingOn? I wouldn’t mind some 2” ish chocolate brown suede long boots for the winter if anyone sees any please?

BangingOn · 05/08/2025 15:41

@faeriesandelves thank you, it’s arrived today and I love it which is slightly annoying as it’s expensive and I now need to justify it. I would probably wear it with black and grey, as that’s most of my autumn winter wardrobe.

At the moment I only have black boots (Allsaints Maeve and AllSaints Lara both purchased in the sale last season) and a pair of dark red Me+Em boots, so I’m on the lookout for some new autumn boots in other colours.

I prefer long boots in autumn, but I need something to wear with ankle grazer jeans when it’s too cold for trainers, any suggestions welcomed.

Do you want knee high or ankle boots?

Probably black knee boots (although I do have a brown pair I’ll try with it too). Sadly my much loved Clarks knee boots have more or less reached the end of the road so I’m looking around now. Current object of lust are these Kasey DMs

My two (new to me) vinted dresses have arrived and they're gorgeous. One is navy blue baby cord and the other is denim. I know I will wear them a lot. Two brands I couldn't have worn last year - Finery and Brakeburn -as they don't seem to go up to size 26 but happy to have found them as a (now) size 18.

I'm still fancying something in burgundy, not sure what, maybe trousers. Just like the colour and have a lovely cream merino sweater I could pair.

Aznavour · 05/08/2025 20:55

Lovely thread. I am hoping to buy a pair of knee-high boots and possibly some dark brown flats (thinking of Mary Jane style). I don't really need trousers or skirts, since I bought several of each last year, as well as a wonderful wool coat that was on sale. I don't really need any knitwear either, but I have my eye on a lightweight cotton cardigan in a sort of loden colour that I think will be very versatile. I also saw a grey cable jumper with a blue flower design. I am coveting it, though I was disappointed to see that it's partly polyester.

GameOfJones · 05/08/2025 22:42

I am another one that is having to buy a new wardrobe after losing a lot of weight on Mounjaro this year. My autumn/winter clothes are currently packed away but most of them won't fit as I've lost 4 stone and two dress sizes.

I definitely want to buy some wide legged cords, chunky brogues and a couple of v neck jumpers. I'm currently scouring Vinted for brands I know my size in.

I'd also like some new smart work trousers and a pair of black ankle boots.

WoolerOwl · 06/08/2025 12:19

I’m enjoying rediscovering old favourites in my wardrobe after losing weight. My style is a mixture of Cos, M&S, Toast, and Tu at Sainsbury’s plus Vinted and charity shops.

I’ve just ordered a long black tailored kilt from Tu, which looks quite interesting, plus the black Ponte boxy blazer, and the chocolate mock croc belt. And a long brown cashmere cardigan coat from Vinted. And some great jeans from New Look (Adelae dark wash).

What I really need is a very dark espresso brown blazer, preferably wool or wool blend. I find lots of what’s available is too orangey brown/tan/olive/beige to suit my clear spring neutral/just warm and very pale colouring. Any ideas? I wouldn’t mind trousers in a similar colour too, but not looking for a suit so they don’t have to match.

faeriesandelves · 06/08/2025 13:04

Catching up but oh my WoolerOwl I’ve ordered that long black kilt from Tu as well! I adored Claudia’s one on the last Traitors but her one was out of my price range! If it’s as good as I hope then we will all need it in our wardrobes.

SpiralSister · 06/08/2025 14:08

Wotcher, @WoolerOwl! I have also spotted that kilt - looks great, will you report back on quality?

I have an actual wool kilt in beautiful colours that I got from Vinted aeons ago, thinking a size 18 would fit. Ha! Just about getting into it now as a generous 12. I think it must be from the 70’s, at least.

Cantonet · 06/08/2025 14:45

I've just bought a Whistles brown cotton cardigan from Tk Maxx. I've been wanting this for the last year but it was too pricey then.
I've also purchased the H&M viral lace blouse. I managed to pick up an online return af my local store, as they're almost completely sold out online. The white version is extremely pretty & very expensive looking.

Bugger it, have ordered the kilt!

I think Tu can produce some surprisingly good clothes - certainly better than other supermarkets, and some high street retailers too.

I have a black and yellow check cotton dress with pockets and ruching from Tu - very Toast. In fact I love it so much I’ve had it 3 times as I’ve gone down the sizes!

Wendywooooo · 06/08/2025 15:03

I need to replace a pair of black wedge boots. Current ones are from Ugg, Calf length, Really nice but just getting a bit worn out. SHould get another winter out of them but deffo need something similar to replace

Ha! I just had a feeling it was one of those items that was going to sell out, and while sitting here in 34 degrees heat doesn’t feel like the obvious time to buy such a wintry thing, I figured I’d regret it if I didn’t. Glad to know I’m not alone. Will update on quality and fit when I pick it up at the weekend. I agree that Tu sometimes has some unexpectedly great looks. I have their black barrel jeans too.

I’m looking forward to boots and long skirt/trousers/jeans seasons again. I got some great boots from Geox in the Jan sale but didn’t get much wear out of them before spring. It will be good to get them out again. Also some tan leather boots from Celtic&Co a few years ago that my calves were too big for. Will have to have a try on when I get home from holiday.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 06/08/2025 16:18

@WoolerOwl- I have similar issues with a lot of the orange browns in the shops. I want some dark brown wide leg work trousers (not a draw string or elasticated waist, want to be able to tuck in a blouse), but everything is a bit orange. Hopefully another couple of weeks and we’ll get more autumnal options.

sadly I’ve the opposite problem to many of you- damaged shoulder/back this summer means I’ve not been able to exercise and my weight has creeped up, it’s not much but comfortably one dress size up. No going to buy much as hopefully by end of September I can drift back into my lovely autumnal things.

I have some kilt pins I may add if the quality is good. I bought an old Windsmoor kilt from Vinted last year but really craved a black one à la Claudia Traitors. I have some spare if anyone wants one.

I just had an op so can’t drive but will send husband to pick mine up!

WoolerOwl · 06/08/2025 19:54

Thanks for kilt info @faeriesandelves. A kilt pin is a great idea. We will have to form a kilt club.

@FancyBiscuitsLevel I am looking at the Uniqlo cotton dark brown jersey relaxed jacket, which I think is a good colour. There are some Whistles brown barrel belted trousers in dark brown that look lovely too but they are expensive: here.

Somethingsnapped · 06/08/2025 20:09

Autumn is my favourite season, both generally and clothing-wise! So I have loads already, and definitely don't need anything. But I'd love some black lace-up knee-high boots.

BangingOn · 06/08/2025 20:11

The Tu kilt is really similar to a Maje kilt I bought from Selfridges in the sales for 10 x the price. Great buy!
