Anyone want to talk Autumn shopping wish lists?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 27/07/2025 14:52

I know it’s not even August yet, and I’ve still not gone on my summer holiday yet - but there’s a chill in the air, I’ve packed a box of freshly picked blackberries in the freezer for autumnal crumbles and while looking for school uniform today, noticed quite a few burgundy items in shop windows.

So what’s on your autumnal shopping list?

Im after a pair of black knee high boots. (My old ones finally had to be retired last year, beyond what could be repaired.)

I’ve just bought a dark brown cashmere jumper on vinted. Am now going to start the hunt for the perfect dark green cashmere jumper or cardie.

I think I need new work trousers but not sure what shape we’re doing this year. (Wide leg ? That doesn’t work well with puddles.)

Anyone else with a list for when the new season starts arriving in the shops?

I would like a new coat but don’t know what style or colour to go with. Also thinking of some new knitwear, is cashmere hard to look after?

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 27/07/2025 15:24

I want a brown leather jacket and some boots, but I've been looking for both the last couple of years and nothing is ever quite right. I also need some new work clothes - some new trousers (I'm sticking with wide leg) and a dress or two. I have lots of skirts and jumpers so will wear what I have of those.

Rattytouille · 27/07/2025 15:34

None.

I got down to goal weight, put a bit back on during my summer holiday, and will get back on track.

I need to be able to fit into my lovely winter wear that was 2 sizes too small for me.

So, perhaps some new workout gear as my current stuff has taken a hammering.

Also, rather than buy, I need to sell stuff. I also need to wear my best as I keep it for occasions when there are none.

hellswelshy · 27/07/2025 15:38

I'd like a autumn/winter version of my pull on cropped wide trousers from H&M that I've lived in all summer! May have to look at less wide, more carrot shaped, but definitely above ankle length. Also some thin knit jumpers, sort of bat wing style in nice warm autumnal colours. I love autumn!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 27/07/2025 15:47

@Mydoghealsmyheart- I think I’m the worst possible person to ask about cashmere, because I’m a complete slattern about its care. However I really struggle with both man made fibres and anything itchy like angora mohair etc and have found cashmere the best for me to just be able to wear it without being uncomfortable. I tend to buy second hand for less than I’d pay for polyester from M&S and just bung in a 30 degree gentle wash in my machine, reshape and dry flat on a towel. I store in plastic boxes with lids after a moth feast incident. I always wear a tshirt underneath them so I get quite a few wears between washes. (Did I mention I’m a slattern?!)

actually that’s another thing for my shopping list, I need a cashmere comb to refresh the older ones.

Try vinted and charity shops in posh areas for good second hand cashmere. Go up a size to allow for shrinkage.

I need new winter boots, really fancy some DMs but wow they are pricey now 😳

lindyloo57 · 27/07/2025 17:04

I really Don't need any new winter clothes, in the next spring sale I managed to buy a wool coat from monsoon, wide leg jeans from mango, and in the john lewis winter sale brought 3 cashmere jumpers,

BangingOn · 27/07/2025 17:24

Autumn is my favourite season to shop for and I love the back to school feeling. I completely replaced my wardrobe last year after almost halving my body weight on Mounjaro so don’t plan to buy too much this year. I might need to replace a few things in a smaller size as I’ve dropped from a size 10 to an 8 since last autumn, but I’m hoping I can source direct replacements via Vinted.

I am always on the hunt for beautiful knitwear and boots. I would like some boots in brown or possibly a deep green.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 27/07/2025 17:27

I would like Vinted to serve me a Jigsaw maxi city coat in burgundy, and perhaps one in navy too. Failing that, I will hope that Jigsaw stock one or both of those colours this year - I was hoping for burgundy last year when it was THE colour, but nope.

Also want some navy ankle boots in leather or suede, and some decent quality navy wide legged trousers too. I don’t live in navy, despite how that list sounds … 🤣

Britpopbaby · 27/07/2025 17:48

I regret not buying some wide leg jeans in the M&S sale the other day so I am going to try and track those down as my palazzo jeans will be going away when the weather gets more autumnal and I spent autumn and winter in jeans.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 27/07/2025 17:59

I bought a replacement pair of White Stuff Willow suede boots at the end of last winter because my old ones are starting to look shabby (after being worn to death) and as there was an offer on I bought a black pair too. Maybe boring but they just work for me. They are both still in the box.

I am hankering after a chunky cream/neutral jumper of some sort but I don't think I really need much.

Thanks OP for the cashmere advice. As a plus size, I don’t look forward to a search for second hand cashmere in a bigger size up but I’ll have a look.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2025 18:38

I've given up on cashmere. I find it too warm for most places.

I need some new work trousers - I fancy quite a slim fit so might be hard to track down. I also need new work shoes, but not quite sure what - they need to be black or tan, go with dresses or trousers and be incredibly comfortable.

Other than that, all I really need is some nice long sleeved t-shirts.

evilharpy · 27/07/2025 18:44

I could do with a new smart wool coat. My Reiss dark grey one and M&S camel one are both now too big and I donated all my normal size ones to the charity shop in a fit of rage when I first gained weight. Hoping Vinted will deliver me a Max Mara camel coat for £20.

LifesTooShortForBadSex · 27/07/2025 19:11

I'm hoping for:
Lovely wide leg jeans
New knitwear
Long sleeved blouses in pretty fabrics from Sezane & ba&sh
New trainers

My trusty black laced leather ankle boots had their last wear last winter but I don't know what to replace them with this year. I'm super fussy about boots

digiwidgy · 27/07/2025 19:23

I always love autumn fashion. All I am trying to do is not be led by TikTok videos from places like Primark. I really want to buy some pieces that will last.

Possibly a couple of jumpers
Pair of boots
Jacket that will hopefully do both smart and casual.

SpiralSister · 27/07/2025 19:39

I need a new coat. I’ve had an absolute cracker for the last 2 winters, which I’ve boasted about on here more than once - PLANET, wool and cashmere, black, full length wrap coat. Quality that can’t be found at an affordable (to me) price these days. It was £35 on Vinted but is now 3 sizes too big.

So Vinted needs to deliver me the exact same coat in my size at the same price. Here’s hoping!

PinballWizened · 27/07/2025 19:46

@Mydoghealsmyheart I am on the bigger side and I have done very well for cashmere and fine knitwear in the men’s section of the cancer research shop.

I’ll be looking for a new smart coat and non-pastel chinos. A tweedy Joe browns type blazer for over work dresses. And a restock of tights.
I’ve had all my boots re-heeled so looking forward to giving them some outings.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 27/07/2025 20:34

@Mydoghealsmyheart- go for your size and then just be more careful than me with respecting care labels instructions.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie- I’m always cold (low blood pressure) so I need the warmth!

I have had some success in the Cos sale with an olive green skirt and grey merino jumper which look perfect for autumn, hope they live up to expectations when they arrive.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 28/07/2025 17:41

Ooh which skirt?

newrubylane · 28/07/2025 17:45

Brown leather or sueded flat knee high boots and a brown leather messenger bag, a couple of cardigans and quite fancying an argyle pattern jumper.

Game0fCrones · 28/07/2025 17:47

I'm looking at spending £300 on a Sunspell raglan sleeve, roll neck, lambswool jumper. I buy one expensive jumper every year in the hope that one day, I'll have enough to be going on with but they always seem to disappoint.

www.sunspel.com/products/womens-lambswool-funnel-neck-jumper-in-smoke-green-wjum8052-gnhp

I bought a green funnel neck wool jumper from House of Bruar last year and the thing itched like hell.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 28/07/2025 17:54

House of Bruar does seem to be a company aimed at Autumnal clothing, I’ve had a couple of cardies from them but seem disappointing their wool had the itch.

I invested in good items last winter, so good to go for cooler weather. However went to a large M&S today, as sale has started in store, and ended up buying a plain black organza fabric bomber jacket from their new range, as I do want a couple of 'update' items and this definitely fitted the bill.
