Anyone want to talk Autumn shopping wish lists?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 27/07/2025 14:52

I know it’s not even August yet, and I’ve still not gone on my summer holiday yet - but there’s a chill in the air, I’ve packed a box of freshly picked blackberries in the freezer for autumnal crumbles and while looking for school uniform today, noticed quite a few burgundy items in shop windows.

So what’s on your autumnal shopping list?

Im after a pair of black knee high boots. (My old ones finally had to be retired last year, beyond what could be repaired.)

I’ve just bought a dark brown cashmere jumper on vinted. Am now going to start the hunt for the perfect dark green cashmere jumper or cardie.

I think I need new work trousers but not sure what shape we’re doing this year. (Wide leg ? That doesn’t work well with puddles.)

Anyone else with a list for when the new season starts arriving in the shops?

This jumper is a thing of beauty! 😍 But I remember the same jumper going into the sale last year (yes, exactly the same one!) so it might be worth holding out to see whether it is reduced again.

@Valkirie oh no! What happened? Did it wash well? I hold my breath every time I wash an expensive jumper.

Game0fCrones · 29/07/2025 20:08

Sorry! I miss-read 'sale' as 'bin' for some reason.

oh those are quite something !

are the laces a PITA to do up? would like those but with a zip to the side?

I haven't bought them yet so I can't comment on the laces but apparently people who have bought them say it's hard to start with but becomes easier. My grandmother's Edwardian boots had buttons instead of laces and she had to use a button hook.

I’m sort of regretting this thread, because now @whatisforteamumhas made me add a chunky knit cream jumper to my list.

I am browsing the new season All Saints collection and really like this skirt in all of the colours, although I have similar (but longer) skirts in black and white already so would go for the brown. I am noticing hemlines moving up towards the knee and midis becoming shorter, which is tricky for me as they tend to cut off my calves at the widest point.

What are the colour trends for autumn and winter this year? I’d read somewhere on here I think that it’s brown and also spots are in. Any other trends that people know of?

BangingOn · 31/07/2025 13:03

Have a read of these two:
Who What Wear
Vogue

I like the sound of ‘frazzled by fabulous’ although fear that I am much heavier on the frazzled part.

I’ve just collected a couple of fab Vinted finds- an Acne grey cardigan because I’m knitwear obsessed, and a really striking deep green Issey Miyake top with velvet ribbon and ruffles. Much nicer and less girlie than it sounds.

That Frazzled but Fabulous look is how I dress anyway in A/W - huge bits of tweed and knitwear hanging off me. I passed a woman on my street yesterday who looked slightly alarmed at the length of cable knit sleeves trailing down to my knees …

I probably need trousers - but no doubt I’ll add more jumpers to the overflow.

At the moment all my clothes are tight - so I’m actually determined to buy nothing but running and yoga clothes for the next few months.

BangingOn · 31/07/2025 13:59

I love the description of huge bits of tweed hanging off you, that does indeed sound fabulous.

last winter I was obese and type 2 diabetic , size 22. I was started on Mounjaro by the diabetic nurse . In March I threw out all my black leggings and baggy black tops in size 22 and gave all my summer wear to the charity shop as it had only been worn for one holiday . I bought some lovely dress for this summer size 16 , and some trousers and tops . These will hopefully be fat too big for me by autumn as I’ve already lost 4 stone with two more to go .
in anticipation I’ve bought 3 pairs of size 14 jeans , 2 denim skirts and a couple of lightweight jumpers as I get too hot . I’ve got knee boots and ankle Ugg boots so I think I will need a couple of pair of ankle boots and maybe some black trousers . I look ridiculous in wide leg trousers as I need petite in them .
Im not into following fashion as I’m 72 but will be happy to look tidy .

Well done, out of interest do you find yourself less hot on mounjaro? Feeling cooler is an added bonus for me and I don’t know if it’s the medication or the weight loss (or both). Either way it will be nice to look at jumpers again!!

Cyclingmummy1 · 31/07/2025 17:31

A wide belt for trousers.

That's it.

I've bought 2 jumpers on the WS sale and a pair of jeans in the River Island sale.

OffToSeaInABlizzard · 31/07/2025 18:18

That sounds a tremendous wardrobe overhaul, @winnieanddaisy.

FullOfMomsense · 31/07/2025 18:24

Desperately want a wax jacket- not usually a new look girl but Barbour are so not my thing this year so maybe this New Look cropped wax jacket

'The' colours this year seem to be jewel tone-esque plus pink-red and ochre yellow so looking at some nice deep olive/mustard jumpers like This to wear with black trousers and boots

And have this nobody's child dress among others in my basket, to wear with knee high chocolate brown boots maybe Also this (although it's out of stock in my size!)

Not wishlist because I've already bought them but this coat: From All Saints
These boots: Windsor Smith And these real leather Mjus boots

Now I want Edwardian boots!!

petitpasta · 31/07/2025 23:22

I've lost 6 stone since last summer and much of what I wore last winter won't fit me this winter. I've picked up some great buys on Vinted and am waiting on delivery of a denim shirt dress and a blue cord dress at the moment. Earlier in the summer I picked up a gorgeous green coat, lots of petite wide leg trousers, a couple of new with tags merino sweaters and several blouses.

I need a couple of short jackets and a dark grey merino sweater. Usually M&S is my go to for merino but the grey this year is a pale effort and not the dark charcoal that suits me. I've spent so long restricted to certain shops that I don't really know where to shop any more.

On the plus side I am so pleased that I couldn't bear to part with my knee high boots as I have just tried them on and they all fit me again. A couple need re-heeling so that will get sorted at the weekend.

I've sold some bits on Vinted and so have treated myself to a couple of lovely handbags. Would like a new large brown leather tote but can't find anything at the moment.

Fabulous work! I know what you mean about not knowing where to shop, Iver spent several years using ‘inclusive’ brands. Vinted is great for trying out brands for fit though I find.

I tried that jacket on this weekend, and in a rare show of restraint didn’t buy it immediately - I am definitely going back for it, has been calling me ever since.

Get the feeling I'm going to regret not picking this jacket up when I first saw it ... not online, and went to get it yesterday and only 16s left. 😡 Hopefully just too early in the season and it will filter through, but I have a feeling it will be popular.

As an aside, I am another who is loving clothes again after huge losses with Mounjaro. What a difference it makes.

For those of you needing complete new wardrobes after weight loss, this thread might be of interest. It isn’t going to tell you that Next and M&S exist - because you already know that - but it might provide a bit a of inspiration:

Love Autumn clothes planning, I have a wishlist on my phone to try and stay focused…

I’d like a grey cashmere jumper from Cos - haven’t bought their cashmere before but have heard good things.

Love the look of this Toast jumper looks so cosy.

This oatmeal jumper also from Toast really appeals. I have a few green dresses so this would work well over the top.

Finally, I think this Rise & Fall dress could work well for parties etc. Haven’t bought anything from this brand before so if anyone has direct experience would love to hear.

Am selling clothes on eBay in anticipation of AW shopping…

The COS olive green skirt has arrived- it’s lovely and a bargain. Highly recommended for anyone who likes dark academia vibes for autumn.

stclementine · 03/08/2025 14:34

I’m another who has lost 7 stone since last autumn and have spent the summer trying to find the few clothes left that fit me! Have spent a fortune in next and in Vinted and have a feeling that come the end of the month my back pay (NHS) will be gojng the same way!
Im loving that my favourite colours - burgundy, dark green, olive green, brown, tan and navy have been around so much in the last couple of years and my favourites on Vinted are all those colours with some deep pinks too. Have given up wearing black - which is a big thing for me. It also helps that I’ve got a golden retriever so 🤷‍♀️.
im still wearing a size 20 as I’ve still got a stomach and tits and hips and bum to clothe, but considering I was nearly a 26 I’m happy. I’d also be interested in any recommendations 😁.

I’m lusting after this faux suede Trench currently, I’ve tried it on and it’s fabulous.

There’s obviously something about brown faux suede for me this year because I’ve also bought this bag from New Look and it is much, much nicer than you would think it would be for that price. I assumed plasticky on the inside but it’s not at all, and it’s lovely and soft and on the outside.
