Anyone want to talk Autumn shopping wish lists?

I know it’s not even August yet, and I’ve still not gone on my summer holiday yet - but there’s a chill in the air, I’ve packed a box of freshly picked blackberries in the freezer for autumnal crumbles and while looking for school uniform today, noticed quite a few burgundy items in shop windows.

So what’s on your autumnal shopping list?

Im after a pair of black knee high boots. (My old ones finally had to be retired last year, beyond what could be repaired.)

I’ve just bought a dark brown cashmere jumper on vinted. Am now going to start the hunt for the perfect dark green cashmere jumper or cardie.

I think I need new work trousers but not sure what shape we’re doing this year. (Wide leg ? That doesn’t work well with puddles.)

Anyone else with a list for when the new season starts arriving in the shops?

@ fairislesweather. Yes I am much cooler but still can’t wear thick jumpers or layers but I’m hoping when the temperature drops below 10 consistently then I’ll be able to add a gilet etc to my outfits .

Jumper dresses are always so tricky. I’m not sure why they are so popular.

I popped into Uniqlo today and came out with some green barrel leg trousers. Pleased that I managed to buy something that wasn’t brown or burgundy 😂. But I did find some brown and burgundy heat tech tops for wearing under blouses and knitted tank tops when the weather gets colder - my office is freezing.

Ooh yes, I need to get some heat tech tops - my work is freezing too.

@TragicMuse out of interest, are you quite tall? I ask because that skirt looks very long even in the tall model.

i wish they would take advice from M&S and do some petite sizing.

I’m 5’ 7” which is above average, apparently. The skirt is long on me, almost to the ground, but my height makes it work for me.

I don’t think of myself as particularly tall because I’m surrounded by even taller people! Husband is 6’ 4”, my teen is taller than me at nearly 18 and my nephew outstrips even my husband!

I think JL’s standard fit model is right for me, but you’re right, it doesn’t work for everyone.

I have been buying shades of brown for the last few years so have a good collection of toning separates and brown and burgundy seem on trend currently. This year I'm going to add a skirt I've seen from COS, a pair of dark brown tights from Falke and a burgundy bag from DeMellier. The bag will go with everything I currently have and make a pair of burgundy loafers pop. I'm celebrating a big birthday so the bag is actually a gift, which means my own autumn/winter budget this year is currently sitting at about £120.

I probably need a better winter coat - Didreksen (can't remember spelling) is the one I've been eyeing up, for several years - but it's such a boring thing to buy that I never quite get round to it.

@TragicMuse i love the cords, and the dress (though that green isn’t for me). Glad you got some nice pieces that you love! (I love having a haul of new clothes. Haven’t had that for a while, but it’s a great feeling!)

Love love love that green dress. I really don’t need it though and wouldn’t have much chance to wear it so will admire it from afar.

The green dress is divine! I had it favourited and then she had it on the rail for me so I think it was meant!

Well, I’ve just ordered a cappuccino brown wool and cashmere mix all saints jumper dress on Vinted. Bargainous. I only remembered the fat little monk thing after I’d pressed buy 😂

Just got a £4 Vinted bargain delivered - new with tags grey tweed pleated skirt. I am in love with it! Just gone round the house finding things to make up darks washing load so I can wash it and wear it ASAP.

Bagged a bargain merino sweater in the Summer which will go perfectly with it. Did ponder a burgundy sweater but...school uniform vibes for me.

You’ve inspired me to look for a tweed skirt on Vinted now!

I really wanted a black kilt but can’t find one. So the black John Lewis skirt is scratching that itch for me.

Well, it’s here. I can’t say it will be my favourite item of clothing ever, but hey - it’s a nice milk chocolate colour which suits me, it’s soft and cosy, and will work with ribbed tights, boots and my faux shearling jacket.

Another one who did the JL personal stylist today ( I’d done one with the same stylist for summer which was nice as she got me!). I shared a wish list from the app so she knew the kinds of things I was looking for and it was fab! I got a gorgeous tartanesque maxi dress which I’d never in a million years have picked out but which looked brilliant. I’m a spring so don’t love all the dark colours around but we managed a few pops of red and pink, in Bretons and jumpers, a beautiful charcoal pea coat from Mango and some gorgeous v wide leg jeans from Mint Velvet. Not only did she know what would suit me colour wise, but also my shape and it was amazing having someone do all the hard work for me! There were a few Whistles things she picked out which I left as I know they often do 20% off, anyone know when the next one is likely to be? I managed to get a jumper she chose off Vinted, in vgc for £8 instead of £89!! It’s apparently one they do every year so a different colour but a bargain! No kilt though, still kicking myself for missing out on the Tu one!

There’s a M&S kilt in black that is very like the Tu one. Saw it in store today, but too short for me.

I can’t see it online yet either. I am 173cm. It looked the same length as the Tu one. There were only a few sizes on the rails, eg 12, 18, 20 and they all said “regular” but I don’t know if that means there will be a long as well, eg online.

Yes I’m a similar height. I think you ordered the Tu one and it was the wrong length, is that right? If so, makes me feel better as it would have been on me too 🤣. Thanks, will keep my eyes out!
