Hi,

Here’s a new thread!

@weareallcats

Ewa i Walla has some lovely designs but I find a lot of it too short and ‘puffy’ - I’m 54, short and stocky and I think they look a bit too ‘fairy core’ on me!

I do love a big Toast or C&R frock but they’re a lot less fussy and all mine from those brands are very long.

I’ve ordered the Toast Mila dress in the green meadow print from eBay to see what the fabric is like. I believe it was one of their most popular dresses (last year?, the year before?) so we’ll see!

Still not seeing anything I want to order from Toast this season, but have ordered some quite expensive fabric to make a couple of dresses and some pyjamas to make up for it ☺️

mizu · 18/09/2025 14:18

This is the TOAST dress I am wearing to death at the moment. Just beautiful.

That’s nice @mizu

Are we thinking maybe next week for a mini end of summer sale?

Poplinskirt · 18/09/2025 19:07

Crikey @IlovePond you are now blue with a pink banner!!

And I'm pink with a purple banner

TosstTastic · 18/09/2025 21:30

What's happen with the formatting. I'm so old, I still look for the '231 posts since you last logged on'

My youngest DD is off to uni so there will be a shift in the house.
We've also had to house clear for a parent so 'stuff' is very much on our mind.
I have the most stunning beaded Toast jacket that has never made it out the house. It's conflict time, do I need to change so my lifestyle suits my clothes or do I just need clothes to fit my lifestyle.

Occasionally I'd love to just get the Kay's catalogue of my teens and buy all the coordinated summer wardrobe - for days on a yacht, nightclubs with Pepsi & Shirley and floaty increased linen. And only wear for one summer.

Instead I'm 50 something, secretly adore my sarong from the 20th century, the Promenade coats from the noughties and my fluffy knits from menopause onset.

Nearly time to dig out my winter Kantha pinafore and get stitched into it for winter.

IlovePond · 18/09/2025 21:39

It’s terrible, isn’t it @Poplinskirt

@TosstTastic - MNHQ have excelled themselves with an ‘update’ that none of us wanted!

The new formatting and colours are giving me a headache so I don’t expect I will be on MN as much. I suffer badly with headaches/migraines/eye strain so these changes are a big issue for me!

I’m afraid I had a bit of an un-Pondlike rant on the thread where people are moaning/talking about the changes. Meanwhile MNHQ are thrilled with themselves and maintaining radio silence.

If anyone wants to join me for a moan into the ether, the thread is here:

Bimblesalong · 18/09/2025 22:20

I really don’t like the new update either.

I am in Paris and it’s scorchio. My toast linen dress and green silk bandana are having a fine time with me!

TosstTastic · 18/09/2025 22:22

I was once 'comment of the day' when it was all fields and the dial up took forever...
I came for what do you buy for having a baby and now find myself on elderly parents, Toast clothes and am I dying or just menopause.

Poplinskirt · 18/09/2025 22:34

I've just been into settings and changed it to more muted colours -all is well

IlovePond · 18/09/2025 22:47

I’ve tried muting/changing the settings but it’s still awful for me 😿

Me too, I chose grey for everything and its not too bad. Certainly not as bad as the ravelry redesign that made me close my account due to the migraines.

ChelseaDetective · 18/09/2025 23:15

This is in the post.. The Mila from a couple of years ago. Anyone have it? What do you reckon?

Toasties enjoying the sale and the sunshine!
IlovePond · 19/09/2025 00:49

That’s nice @ChelseaDetective

I might try grey for everything and see if that helps, but I am struggling with the brightness 😿

OP posts:
Brummumm · 19/09/2025 01:17

@ScottishMouse you might find a Scotch and Soda - they have some interesting bits if you search.

ScottishMouse · 19/09/2025 01:36

Thanks @Brummumm.
My spending here might be curtailed because I have just had to book a second hotel and don’t think the first will refund me! Wide awake for the last almost 5 hours because the room is insanely hot & stuffy (and the weather is not particularly warm here today), the windows cannot be opened, the fan is far too loud (the fact there was one in the room suggests that this is a known issue), and the bed is pretty uncomfortable.
I have just done something that normally I would be horrified by, and booked a room for the next two nights in a lovely but not cheap hotel that I stayed in once before. I thought trying to save some money on a hotel was sensible given how expensive everything here is, but this is a disaster. My husband may freak out when he finds out, but my pal is arriving tomorrow, I was in charge of hotel booking, and I can’t make her stay here. I’m 50, menopausal, find it hard to sleep at the best of times, and if I can’t say fuck it on this one, when can I?

ScottishMouse · 19/09/2025 01:36

Also, these new MN colours are awful!

ChelseaDetective · 19/09/2025 04:04

Oh dear, I hope things improve, you’ve done the right thing booking somewhere better for your time with your friend.

I decided years ago never again to try to save money on hotels, (and never to let DH book a trip!) - there’s nothing more miserable than a bad hotel.

Keep us posted on what you see on your trips out @ScottishMouse.

IlovePond · 19/09/2025 07:24

I’ve been in a similar situation @ScottishMouse - it’s so frustrating - I hope you have a lovely weekend with your friend despite the disappointing start.

OP posts:
ScottishMouse · 19/09/2025 07:41

Thanks ladies. I have checked out. I didn’t sleep for even 5 minutes last night. The hotel were not interested in my complaints. I will leave a bad review on google/tripadvisor and see if that gets me anywhere with them, but I am looking at it like this - I had booked and paid months ago so that money is gone and forgotten. Of course I will have to tell my other half they refunded me, because he doesn’t get it, being someone who could sleep absolutely anywhere and only needs a few hours to be sprightly the next morning.

mizu · 19/09/2025 07:41

@tosstTasticI too was here when I had babies and I used to be on style and beauty quite a lot as well as money matters, now it’s just toast really and a wander around chat.

My youngest went off to uni last year so both away now. The shift is odd but you get into a new rhythm fairly quickly, well I did 😁 thoroughly enjoying only having to think about myself when I get home from work.

I’m on my phone and no colour changes at all here.

Getting a lot of emails from TOAST at the moment, the check cotton seersucker skirt and the jumpers are lovely but I really cannot buy another TOAST knit!

mizu · 19/09/2025 07:43

@ScottishMouse I can’t think of anything worse than a bad night’s sleep in a hotel. Hope you have a good day today and a good sleep tonight.

VivienneDelacroix · 19/09/2025 21:55

ScottishMouse · 19/09/2025 01:36

Also, these new MN colours are awful!

They really are. Headache inducing.

I hope you're new hotel is beautiful and comfortable.

Snowyowl78 · 20/09/2025 20:51

@ScottishMouse I’d do anything for a good nights sleep. You want to feel good for your time with your friend so I think it’s the right choice!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 22/09/2025 14:14

I received the Freya macro gingham dress today, after dithering between the skirt and the dress for a week. It’s really lovely and a great colour for me, but oh so large. I sized down to the 10 but I think the 8 would have fitted, most sizes are oos now so I’ll probably keep the 10. But why this continual guess work about sizes? I’ve recently bought the high neck soft cotton tee in a L to get the right fit.
