A disappointing start to the AW season it seems.

I have a basket ready and waiting for the Kindred gift

My second parcel arrived today. The Baya cord shirt is a thicker cord which makes for a much bulkier shirt, probably more suitable as a jacket or overshirt. The fit is better on me than the Denim blue cord shirt. I’m really tempted to keep this although the sleeves are a bit short for a jacket, and it only has the one patch pocket. One to try on a few more times before I finally decide.

I really like the binding seersucker skirt, a great fit, and although very long I would be happy to wear this with boots in the winter.

My only reserve is the wool content, I was hoping such a small content wouldn’t give me a problem, but the waistband against bare skin feels irritating. Unfortunately this means I wouldn’t be able to wear the shirt in the same fabric, but, as long as I have something between the waistband and my skin, I think the skirt will work for me.

I was disappointed my cord trousers didnt arrive this morning @Theteapotsbrokenspout is that shirt a slightly different colour from the ones that are the same fabric as the trousers ? I had planned to buy the shirt at a later date if I liked the trousers.

@Countmeout The Baya shirt is much paler than the barrel leg trousers, I think it’s the same colour as the gabis and the a line skirt. The Denim blue shirt is the same colour and fabric as the trousers.

The new collection has slightly redeemed itself for me. I bought the cord barrel leg trousers in charcoal today despite not being a fan of cord usually. The shape is good and despite being a little long on me, I think they won’t lose their barrel shape if I take them up by a couple of inches. I would consider a second colour in these as they’ll be very useful, but I’m not sure I like any of the others. The blue is too bright for me, I donut wear green at all. Pink?? Has anyone seen the pink in real life, I didn’t notice them in the shop today.

@ScottishMouse I’d really like those in the pear colour, but I’m also usually not a fan of cord. Some reviews also say the cord is thin, so I don’t want it looking scruffy after washing - what do you think?

I bought the pleat front cotton canvas trousers in the olive colour (instead), from the initial AW drop. Waiting for them to arrive still.

@ScottishMouse I think the pink might look good with navy. I saw both items in pink on instagram but didn’t like the effect of 2 pinks together. I’m glad you think the shape is good.

@CakeAndJazz yes, it is thin. I don’t mind that in terms of feel and weight, I run warm so they will be fine for me all winter. But I am a little worried that they may loose their shape easily. Only time will tell. I will hold off on the pink ones until I see how these ones wear.
@Countmeout I think the pink would look great with navy or black. I definitely couldn’t wear it close to my face, but pink trousers could be a winner.

I’m having a few days in the South West and have packed light but for all seasons. The easy blue linen dress I’ve recently bought is an absolute winner - so soft and drapes well, great to layer up to get to the beach and then to sit and enjoy the view in (albeit occasionally with a sweater over the top!). I have the long sleeved gold coloured jersey top, which is working well with jeans and walking trousers.

Yesterday, I spent a couple of hours looking round galleries. Last year’s poplin dress with the v neck and huge flowers pairs well with this year’s green silk scarf, with an ancient purple canvas Toast jacket over it all. I had my photo taken by a few gallery owners so it must have worked!

I’m really enjoying seeing the new drop coming in but resisting it until I get back to our usual way of life. Also, yikes, some of these things are ££££! The funnel neck sweater is gorgeous - wondering if I could knit a similar one as it’s chunky. Loving the cord skirts too.

My cord barrel leg trousers arrived. The blue colour is as I hoped. They weren’t as fine a cord as I’d imagined but also felt more substantial than I expected. I had ordered 2 sizes and am keeping the smaller pair. They both go on comfortably and I think cord has a bit of give.

@Countmeout and @ScottishMouse some feedback about wash and wear would be much appreciated!

@CakeAndJazz . I don’t wash unless absolutely necessary and probably won’t wear until it’s cooler so may be a while. I have always found other Toadt cord washes well.

@CakeAndJazz exactly the same as @Countmeout here. I also need to shorten mine, so I probably won’t be wearing them in the next few weeks as I won’t have time to do it before then.

Ah okay, I totally get it. Might try order a pair and see what they’re like. The pleat front canvas ones arrived today, though, and even though they are a wide leg style, they are really very good. The fact that they are over £200 makes me want to cry a little though.

Just got an order in the post and it arrived in a box, which I wasn’t expecting as it was just two items of clothes. I thought maybe there was a kindred gift inside, but no.
Based on the success of the cord barrel leg trousers, I thought I’d try another couple of cord things - the midnight popover smock shirt and the charcoal pinafore. Bought both in M. The shirt fits everywhere but is a little too short. It might be fine on others but my bust means it sticks out at the front and I would be constantly tugging it down. The pinafore has far too much fabric. I think S would fit better, and I may try it at some point, but I didn’t instantly love it.
I also ordered the gathered neck mini stripe shirt, which I didn’t notice was only arriving in the warehouse next week. Maybe there’ll be a kindred gift with that!
Still thinking about the pink cords. Not sure I have ever worn pink in my life!

It’s been a year or two since I commented on a Toast thread. I used to pop up quite regularly, often bemoaning the excess of brown in Toast collections which does not work for me! (Apologies brown fans, it’s nothing personal!). I haven’t bought much from them for a while apart from the odd pair of jeans. But today I received the dianthus print shirt which is truly lovely (despite the price) so I thought I’d pop in and sing its praises. Great print, great fit and all round winner. I’m now tempted by the dress in the same fabric….

Hi y'all experts - I bought a toast dress last year (Bryn) and it fits my quirky body perfectly. It was an expensive treat but I have worn it loads.
There's another two dresses I like - when / if will there be a sale?
One of the dresses is the blue and white cotton arty one, maybe from the summer...

@Brummumm - there may be a mini sale - just a few days long - end of September or thereabouts. The next main sale will be December, (usually starts the evening of last post before Xmas).

However, Toast’s recent summer and winter sales have been relatively poor and with much less stock than previously. They have also tended not to put much of the previous season’s stock in the next sale recently. (Goodness knows what they have been doing with the last season’s stock - Toast is very weird!)

For example: Summer sale 22 had well over 900 reduced items in womenswear at the start, including the most recent season’s stock. Plus they kept restocking and adding items. By contrast, in 2024 both summer and winter sales had far fewer items, very little restocking and no adding of further items after day one.

This is my long-winded way of saying not to hold your breath for a particular dress going in the sale 😹

Having said that, Bryn is a popular model with lots of patterns, so I would expect at least one of the colour ways in the winter sale, (if not the next mini).
