Hi,

Here’s a new thread!

@IlovePond No!!!

IlovePond · 16/08/2025 11:49

😹Seriously thinking about it, as I had to cut last UK break short due to getting sick, (thank goodness I was in the UK!) and been fed up this week as still off work but now DH is ill.

Mind you, with the luck I have - everything would be booked and then Toast cancel…😹

Llandeilo does look nice, though, (and, according to Ancestry I have many Welsh ancestors, so maybe it’s time to get in touch with my roots 😹)

MiracleToast · 16/08/2025 12:36

All valid reasons! @IlovePond Without being too cliche—whatever brings joy is a worthy venture!

AThousandCaloriesToTheBad · 16/08/2025 12:40

@IlovePond Go. Llandeilo is lovely and I travelled from Aberdeen to Harrogate/York last week mostly in order to visit the Toast shops (and to eat fat rascals at Betty’s tearooms) 😎

oddandelsewhere · 16/08/2025 14:12

@IlovePond definitely go to Llandeilo! I think it's the nicest Toast shop though I am slightly biased because it"a my nearest one (but even then it's not very close). There's lots of space, and really nice staff who have all worked there for ages.

I probably wouldn't stay in Llandeilo, it's alright but not much interesting there except Toast. Having said that I'm afraid I can't recommend anywhere better to stay because I'm not local enough to know.

Has anyone bought from Plumo recently? I think they have the worst customer service. I ordered some trousers on the 21at of July. They arrived on 29th of July, looked atrocious so I returned them the same day. Plumo received them on the 1at of August but didn't acknowledge receipt until 13th of August, when they said they would refund within two or three days. I still don't have it, so it will be at least 4 weeks from ordering (payment was taken instantly) to being refunded It's really disappointing because their new collection looks lovely but I don't want to order the Harris tweed jacket which I love because I don't fancy lending Plumo nearly £700 for four weeks of it doesn't fit.

ScottishMouse · 16/08/2025 14:37

I absolutely will not order from Plumo
@oddandelsewhere. Both because of exactly what you are describing, but also because they put a huge mark-up on items they sell, they very often will not name the brand the item is from, but if you know, or do some research, you can find the same items elsewhere for considerably less. I find this pretty objectionable.

ScottishMouse · 16/08/2025 14:38

@IlovePond now I am thinking a trip to Wales would be lovely! Llandeilo is only a 7 hour drive from me 😆

ScottishMouse · 16/08/2025 14:46

On the Plumo thing (sorry, but it makes me mad)…they are expecting the Aiayu (lovely danish brand) gentle turtleneck in stock shortly and are pricing it at £149. Buy directly from Aiayu and it costs £86. Even with the €20 shipping from Denmark, it still comes in at almost £50 less!! (And yes, I know you might be subject to import duties, but I’d be willing to bet you would still save money even after that over buying from Plumo). For further comparison, a boutique local to me had the same turtleneck last winter for £112. Plumo are taking the you-know-what.

oddandelsewhere · 16/08/2025 14:46

You are right @ScottishMouse , I'll try to put the lovely jacket out of my mind. I'm jealous of all those Llandeilo bound, normally I'd be there at the front of the queue, but some of the young elsewheres are coming for the weekend so I'll not be able to go. Happy shopping all!

faustina · 16/08/2025 20:19

I think the Plumo Studio things are all actually made and designed by Plumo and not available elsewhere (for a much lower price), including that lovely Harris Tweed Coat they have for the new season. For other things their mark up is ridiculous, and if anyone wants a Jack jumper, they're made by Paisie and the real price is much much lower!
I'm getting sample sale envy. Hope you all have a lovely time!

IlovePond · 16/08/2025 22:02

Well, I am going to Llandeilo on Saturday. In my defence, I was looking for somewhere to visit for a few days, but wasn’t really intending to go quite so far 😹 We are staying about half an hour away and the Llandeilo trip will be on our way back home.

DH seems reasonably sanguine at the prospect, (it pales into comparison with the time we left Thirsk at 6am to get to the KC sale and then on home to the SE by tea time🙈). I wouldn’t describe him as exactly enthusiastic, but he is getting a bit keener on exploring new places so, why not?

I will report back!

I had the loveliest shopping session in the Brighton shop today. Staff were very kind and helpful.

Although it’s nearly autumn, I bought a couple of summer pieces - a blue linen v neck top and a long blue linen sleeveless dress. I also picked up the seersucker cotton shirt, which is delicious, the spotted carapace green scarf and the Lia boat neck tee in honey. Quite a shopping session but we have no Toast shop near us. Hopefully my new summer things won’t pop up in the sale!

I also had a good try on of other garments, should I need to order workwear later in the season. I have a good idea of sizes now (my waistline is suffering due to my preventative cancer treatment drugs).

Edited

I also had a lovely experience in the Brighton shop yesterday.

I spoke to a lovely lady who was buying a beautiful selection of things. It wasn't you was it? (If it was you, you said you were treating yourself as an early birthday treat - your birthday's in December!).

I bought the Aila Mineral Check dress and wore it to the theatre today. It's stunning. I wanted to try a few other things but small daughter was hot and tired by that point in the day.

Bimblesalong · 16/08/2025 22:18

@VivienneDelacroix it sounds as if it is a conjunction of good experiences. It wasn’t me, although I had some lovely interactions with other customers.

VivienneDelacroix · 16/08/2025 22:46

Ahh, it's a lovely store with lovely staff.

Countmeout · 17/08/2025 12:36

And I’m just out of Shoreditch and can say that everyone in the shop was lovely today. Much better experience than last time. Some lovely things - some unexpected.

IlovePond · 17/08/2025 12:38

That’s good @Countmeout - I wish it wasn’t such a lottery going into a Toast shop re: staff behaviour.

@AFingerofFudge I did exactly this. Thank you so much! Bought new jeans and tried on everything!

mizu · 17/08/2025 17:06

@IlovePond 😭 think I’ll be going too. 2.5 hours away from me. I rang the shop last week to check it was still on.

IlovePond · 17/08/2025 19:46

That would have been a sensible thing for me to do @mizu (before booking a non-refundable trip 🙈)

Thanks for doing that and for the info.

I’ll be the one looking at everything, whilst DH and large dog lurk in the vicinity 😹

I received an order today with the slate hemp raglan tee and the blue lounge shorts. I had been waiting for the tee to turn up again in my size, but sadly this must have been a return because the shoulder seam is all wonky on one side, very obviously so once you put it on. Amazingly though, I happened to see another on eBay just a wee while ago, so snapped that up. Fingers crossed it is ok because it is a lovely tee in a good colour.
The shorts I am swithering about. While lovely, and a good fit, they are very pricey for something I will essentially just wear around the house (although I would wear them a lot….)

Countmeout · 21/08/2025 16:21

Tried a couple of things while shopping in London.
Brownwyn trousers. Not generously sized and gave me saddlebags I don’t have.
Garment dyed linen shirt dress (did you end up keeping it @ScottishMouse ? ) I like it as a coat but didn’t buy as the colour doesn’t match much I have. Thought it quite generous round the hips. I also tried the black jersey dress. Found it small fitting as I have a bust and again not my colour.
Bought a second Lia tee in blue as I love it so much. Actually expected to buy the honey colour but wasn’t keen on colour, sizing still small in these despite it saying the honey is bigger on the website measurements. Also the Baya indigo twill shirt which works like a jacket too. Bought my usual size in this - plenty big.
Saw lots of things I liked, hoping some in sale.
I liked this surprisingly.
https://www.toa.st/products/pintuck-sleepy-stripe-dress-forest-green Although I didn’t try it on, the length seemed better than expected. But needs to be a sale buy.
Loved the Donegal tank in green.

Hi, if anyone is ever near Aberaeron, I found these wool blankets - made in Wales - in a shop called SELD. They’re double bed sized and £80, (except for the yellow one on the bottom shelf which was £105). I thought they were very nice and quite Toast-like.

They used to do online orders but seem to have stopped, but are on Instagram.

Today I wore a very old Toast swimsuit. I realise how lovely the material it's made from is and how much I would like a new one ( in a larger size!). Does anyone have any idea how I could track down similar styles/ materials. The ones I have are polka dot halter neck one-pieces and at least 12 years old. The material is lovely, not shiny and fairly substantial. I'm very much regretting getting rid of the tankinis I had in the same material.

IlovePond · 21/08/2025 19:09

@Allwellthatendswell - they sometimes have old swimsuit stock at KC, but not as much now it is discontinued.
