Hi,

Here’s a new thread!

Happy to enable @MiracleToast 😆 My concern (apart from layering!) is denim. The last denim piece I had from Toast was ages ago and I remember I couldn’t ever wear anything light coloured with it, even after much washing. I think this dress would look great with a white tee or a Breton top underneath it, but would I end up always having to wear dark colours under it which wouldn’t look quite so good imo?

ScottishMouse · 09/08/2025 17:18

Not sure why my post came up twice…sorry!
@MiracleToast my sis says it will be too short for how she wants it (she’s 5’8”). I am seriously thinking about it for me though. I have some vouchers so it is tempting. I’ll ponder it for a few days and see if it is still calling.

MiracleToast · 09/08/2025 17:22

Sounds like a good plan! @ScottishMouse Thats a happy happenstance! I am still really hoping to get to the Edinburgh shop as I want to try too many things to justify ordering. I’m fairly certain my postie is appalled as it is…

Poplinskirt · 09/08/2025 20:42

I have lots of Toast denim, dresses and Annies @ScottishMouse and none bleed after the first couple of washes.
I do the first couple of washes cold with salt to set the dye.
I also use non bio and never use fabric conditioner -it causes denim to bleed

ScottishMouse · 09/08/2025 20:55

Interesting @Poplinskirt, I didn’t know that about fabric conditioner making denim bleed. I never use the stuff anyway (due to sensitive skin issue in the house). I knew about the cold water and salt, but I have never done it. Must give it a go, thanks for the reminder.

I think it softens the fibres and so the dye bleeds out.
I detest the stuff, it makes everything floppy and I can't bear the smell.
Give it a go @ScottishMouse
I would never be able to wear all my denim if it bled onto other things!!

ScottishMouse · 10/08/2025 14:50

I’ve decided against the lovely denim pinafore. I am a sucker for being drawn in by the loveliness of something and not giving much thought to how much I would wear it. And that is what leads to having to then sell unworn items down the line. I’m trying to avoid this, so I had a long hard think about how the dress would fit into my wardrobe and my lifestyle and decided that it probably wouldn’t. Saving my pennies for some autumn/winter loveliness instead.

ScottishMouse · 10/08/2025 15:02

On the note of winter loveliness, I have been eyeing up the Eden cardi for well over a year now. So long that when I tried it on first I couldn’t decide between small and medium, and now I can’t decide between medium and large! Anyone who has it, how did you choose size-wise? I want to wear it both open and closed. The medium fits but is probably a bit neater than I would like when closed, and I don’t love neat knitwear. The body of the large feels more comfortable when closed but might be a bit sloppy when open, and the sleeves are quite long. This is the winter I am going to buy it if I can ever decide on size and colour.

boopthatdog · 10/08/2025 17:21

Has anyone tried the Flower Mountain trainers? having a 'mare trying to find some that fit and don't annoy me due to sensory sensitivities/wide feet/high instep!

ScottishMouse · 10/08/2025 17:25

I have @boopthatdog. I ultimately didn’t buy them as I didn’t love the style on me, but fit-wise they were great and I have very problematic feet. I am a wide 5.5 and found the 5 perfect and very comfy.

Thanks so much for this - I think I'll give them a try !

IlovePond · 10/08/2025 17:31

@boopthatdog - I was lucky enough to get a pair of FM trainers at a sample sale.

I don’t have wide feet and the ones I tried on in-store the day before were too wide for me. However, the sample ones fitted better than the seemingly identical pair I tried on earlier!

I would say that, in terms of length, they are TTS and can be quite wide-fitting.

I sometimes get PF, but these are ok for me. They don’t feel ‘weird’ to me, either, (but that is, of course, subjective!)

If you can get to a Toast, I recommend trying on in-store, (but check in advance that they have some in your size - store stock is SO limited due to lack of space, plus they are both pricey AND popular!

Alternatively, I would order some to try. Toast returns are easy and free.

I love mine and would also like the FM sandals as they are so very comfy. However, imo, they don’t look marvellous on my feet/like they’ve cost £195 so I have restrained myself. However, I can feel myself cracking…

@boopthatdog - I very recently managed to find some of the beautiful chalk and cherry Flower Mountain trainers (new) on Vinted and took a huge gamble on them as I hadn't tried them on beforehand. I'm 5.5 but have wide feet so would typically go for a 6 unless I knew they were wide. Luckily they fit me perfectly and are really light and comfortable - they have a really nice cork insole. Haven't worn them yet as it's been too hot!

IlovePond · 10/08/2025 17:43

Just realised they are ONLY £180. Total bargain 😹so currently reconsidering…

Trying on current Toast items and checking against size measurements on some items online. As mentioned recently, I am so bad at judging sizes on me these days due to wanting to hide in voluminous things. I remember that someone here (I think someone who posts often but I cannot remember who!) once said that they always buy their usual size in Toast and assume that the fit is then how Toast intend - looser in some things, neater in others. At the time I couldn’t understand how this could work, but actually, most of the things I have bought in recent times have all been M/12 on top and S/10 on bottom. Maybe I should stop overthinking and just rely on that (I can hear many of you cackling, what with years of Toast sizing issues, but has it not been better lately??). I have been holding off wearing the linen shirt dress in M as I wanted to try a S, and have been waiting for it to arrive in my local store, but it still hasn’t and I’m wondering whether to order in S to try or just go with the M and assume it is the right size…🤔

@ScottishMouse I have a few of the Eden cardigans, I absolutely love them and definitely my most worn knitwear during AW. I wear them buttoned and loose, and go with my usual Toast knitwear/top size. I did try to size up when I was initially deciding what size to buy, but thought my usual size best. I hope that helps somehow. I wanted to ask whether you managed to repurchase the Oat heathery sweater in a smaller size? I’m only managing to catch up on the thread now.

@IlovePond I really love the look of the FM sandals, but find that price for non-leather sandals quite steep. I would imagine they would be really comfortable though (I do love my trainers from them)!

Talking of spendy shoes - I’d really love to try the Hereu loafers. Has anyone tried them? I know they were much admired on here, but I’m wondering if anyone managed an order or try on? I’d really like some ballet pumps or loafers for this Autumn as I don’t have anything like that. I wear trainers mostly, but would really like an alternative that looks a bit smarter. I wonder if they are robust enough to be worn, as they do seem to lean more towards slippers in style.

ScottishMouse · 10/08/2025 20:14

Thanks @CakeAndJazz that is helpful. I should probably just go for M. Yes, I swapped the oatmeal heathery sweater for a M from the L I had originally bought. It definitely looks better on the shoulders and arms, and although it is a little neater than I might tend towards on the body, realistically it is not actually neat, it’s just my perception/comfort level. Going to try hard to not worry so much about things clinging in a way they didn’t use to.

mizu · 10/08/2025 21:03

@IlovePond 😭 I actually have these but got lucky and got them pretty much brand new on Vinted for £80. I’ve worn them a lot and they are super comfortable but you’re right, they just look like another pair of walking sandals really!

ScottishMouse · 10/08/2025 21:28

@CakeAndJazz can you tell me if the Eden cardigans pill badly? I have had mixed experience with Toast’s wool cashmere items in the past.

CakeAndJazz · 11/08/2025 10:41

@ScottishMouse glad you sorted the heathery sweater, it looks a lovely neutral. The Eden cardigans do pill - I de-pill after every few wears, but I don’t mind doing it. Having said that I don’t think it pills really badly or all over, if that makes sense.

ScottishMouse · 11/08/2025 15:10

Thanks @CakeAndJazz. I’m not sure how much de-pilling I am up for, I’d much rather a coarser wool, but this is the style I love, so I may have to just put up with it.

CakeAndJazz · 11/08/2025 19:33

I think the amount of pilling is reasonable @ScottishMouse and worth it (if you can think of it that way).

ScottishMouse · 12/08/2025 17:54

Has anyone ever managed to return or exchange something bought in store that was over the 28 days return period? I bought a T-shirt before I went away last month, totally forgot about it, and have just realised I bought the wrong size. I’m wondering if it is worth asking, or do I just stick it on a resale site?
