Hi,

Here’s a new thread!

Hello Toasties! I fell out of love with Toast for a while so stopped posting. However, this dress is catching my eye and I can't decide if I like it or not. Have any of you seen it in real life? Does the colour match the website or is it duller? One of the reviews mentions this and it would mean that I am not interested in it if that is true. I live abroad, so ordering and then returning is a huge hassle and expensive. Thanks!

Thanks for replying @applecatchers36. Yeah, I think shirts might be tricky unless they are fitted, and I don’t own anything like that. I hoped it would be a throw it on as an extra layer over what I am wearing piece, not a piece that I have to plan specific things for underneath, things that I wouldn’t choose to wear otherwise (like base layer type tees, which I only ever wear hidden away under sweaters). I have finally realised (after many years of buying cardigans) that cardigans are similarly problematic for me. I don’t wear a lot of dresses except in summer when I don’t usually need a cardigan, and most of my tops are boxy/oversized and so often don’t work well under cardigans. I tend to wear jumpers in winter, and the only cardigan I ever reach for is one that is boxy and buttons up to the neck so I can wear it like a jumper. I’m wondering if the waistcoat will spend a lot of the year languishing in my wardrobe with my cardigans, and I’m not sure if I should keep it just to wear alone in summer.

Snowyowl78 · 27/07/2025 15:33

@ScottishMouse i have the ecru waistcoat which is the same- I think a tighter white tshirt looks good. I have a few from H&M in a silk mix and they look good with it. Or I also like it worn open over a vest, I’m not sure why but it has to be a lower cut vest, not a high neck vest. I want the blue one too!

on another note, was it you that cut off a shirts collar that you bought when Toast was going through its clownish phase? I want to do the same but I’m a bit nervous of completely ruining it. It’s the blue shirt with the frilly collar.

ScottishMouse · 27/07/2025 15:46

Good memory @Snowyowl78! Yes I did and it was the same one. I have to say I’m not sure it was a great success. It turned out fine in that the collar sits fine and doesn’t look messy, but there is something about the shirt now that doesn’t look right, the proportions or something. I have worn it a bit but not loads, and always with a scarf.

Snowyowl78 · 27/07/2025 16:01

@ScottishMouse ah that’s good to know. Maybe I shouldn’t do it. I really like the shirt, but the collar is a bit odd!

ScottishMouse · 27/07/2025 16:45

Yeah, I think the collar suits some but I felt too clownish in it.

Countmeout · 27/07/2025 19:50

I have the ecru waistcoat too. I wear it over some dresses, T-shirts with jeans, it does look good over a sleeveless dress too, I suppose like a vest as @Snowyowl78 says and I am not young but who cares.
i took ( well I didn’t do it myself ) the collat off the green dress from last year. I thought I might wear it more if I did and I have. I’m not sure it works as well for a blouse. I’ve worn my blouse with the frill under a jumper. Surely the frill is very flat.

IlovePond · 28/07/2025 19:39

@mizu - I googled Toast Llandeilo and it does look like a nice town!

Btw: The York store is currently hidden beneath scaffolding. I walked past it three times today 🙈

I’m on my way to the Harrogate store this morning. Will report back if there is anything lovely in there.

Some new reworn stuff online

IlovePond · 29/07/2025 13:19

Oh dear - I have fallen in love with the Flower Mountain trainers - so comfy! But at £180 they are too pricy for an impulse buy. Plus, if I am honest, they don’t look particularly exciting. But soooo comfy🙀

Friendly staff in Harrogate, particularly in the men’s/homeware Toast shop.

I also tried on the blue check linen trousers and the Suki denim - both ridiculously long in the crotch - especially the linen. I really need to give up hope of Toast trousers suiting me.

I liked the mustard coloured oil pourer, but at £56, it’s staying in the shop!

Thanks @ShrankLastWinter nothing for me but I ordered some shoes for DH.

ScottishMouse · 29/07/2025 13:51

Thanks @ShrankLastWinter Nothing for me either. There is never very many size 12/M items in Reworn. ☹️

Stravaig · 29/07/2025 14:05

I think one of those Reworn dresses is priced a smidge higher than the one I bought new in a sale 😲.

MsDastardley · 29/07/2025 14:21

@IlovePond I got rid of my Suki trousers as the rise was ridiculously long. I think I’ve got a longer than average body, but they didn’t work unless I was aiming for Hammer Time

IlovePond · 29/07/2025 14:34

So true @MsDastardley 😹. I wish Toast would remember that we are not all 6 foot tall!

OP posts:
IlovePond · 29/07/2025 14:35

On a non-Toast note: Some very Toasty’ items at reasonable prices in Seasalt atm. I think someone at Seasalt has been having a look at Toast and thinking: Mmn, we can do that…

OP posts:
Theteapotsbrokenspout · 29/07/2025 14:54

@IlovePond anything in Seasalt you'd recommend. I always think they've got some nice things but when I go in my local shop its the same old flowery stuff (probably says more about where I live TBH 😆).

Stravaig · 29/07/2025 15:19

The style's not for me, but I adore the colours of this new dress at Seasalt, and there's also a men's shirt. Very much hoping that other style options are on the way!

ShrankLastWinter · 29/07/2025 16:36

Oh wow, I do love those colours!

ScottishMouse · 29/07/2025 17:21

Agree about the rise on the Suki trousers @MsDastardley @IlovePond. For me, a lower rise is fine if the trousers have some gathering/pleating/fullness around the hips. The Suki are too straight/narrow at the hips so the rise looks really really long. It’s similar but not quite as bad with the Alix, I have gone up a size in those to counter this. I find the check linen or cotton/linen ones fine in this respect as there is fullness/pleats, but they definitely need to be worn on the waist and not lower.

Countmeout · 29/07/2025 18:03

I bought a pouring bowl in the reworn bits. Hope it’s ok. Not quite sure where I’m going to put it as I’m bit pottery heavy. I seem to have abandoned Emma Bridgewater for Toast Pottery.
Also a shirt that probably won’t fit.
lots of size 6 😕.

Seasalt doesn’t like me.

IlovePond · 29/07/2025 19:21

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - I was about to mention that green/dark blue, (or black?) dress, but @Stravaig beat me to it. It’s beautiful irl, but sadly, the one I tried today was too small. I am attempting to diet atm, so that might spur me on!

I agree that there are a LOT of florals and other things that I am not so keen on, but, apart from that dress which, imo, wouldn’t look out of place in Toast, (apart from the price: £74.95!) I quite liked these:

They also had some nice linen trousers in the sale, but sadly too small for me.

In my defence - the above all looked much nicer in person. That crinkle skirt irl is a very dark green-blue colour.

It was the Harrogate store I visited.

Jamboree Chambray Midi Skirt

Woven from soft cotton chambray, our Jamboree Skirt feels silky and cool against the skin. We've given this midi length style soft pleats for plenty of movement, so it's full and floaty with a flattering waistband and concealed side zip. It's finished...

I should also say: Being 5’4” with short legs, everything above is MUCH longer on me than on the models!
