This is true @Theteapotsbrokenspout. Shame.

Countmeout · 24/07/2025 09:14

@ScottishMouse is it open all the way down? It would be useful with other things if so.
I like it on you. What colour is it really? Black, grey, brownish? I could find a use for it if it were slate.

see the dates for Kilver sale are under events this morning.

MsDastardley · 24/07/2025 10:12

@Theteapotsbrokenspout that’s a shame. I returned first dress as too big, but pattern placement on both was fine. I think someone on here, or maybe a review, said they received one with strange pattern placement. I bet you’ve been sent that! Length fine on me, I’m 5’6”

ScottishMouse · 24/07/2025 10:14

@Countmeout yes, it’s open all the way down I tried it open over trousers and a top and it looked good but I think that look is definitely for someone a bit taller than me.
I would say it is grey or washed black rather than black, but definitely not slate which is more blue-ish. It’s the same grey/black linen they have done for the last couple of years I think, there's been a number of dresses and also some other pieces.

I'm sorry this isn't Toast related, but I know you're all dedicated clothes hounds so I thought someone might have some insight.

Having given up on Toast trousers after having to have quite a discussion over getting a refund for a cotton canvas pair which I bought in the Spring and didn't realise immediately were a very odd shape ( the zip was 16cm from one side seam and 21cm from the other) I decided to try a pair from Plumo. Does anyone have any experience of buying from there?

I ordered them on Monday and still haven't had as much as a despatch email. Their phone is 'temporarily out of order ' according to a recorded message, and it isn't possible to send an email. It just says to try again later.

Has anyone else had this experience?

ToastCosILoveIt · 24/07/2025 16:02

I am wondering if my love affair with Toast is waning…I ordered the new blue wrap skirt but it is going back: despite reviews saying it came up big, it was very snug around the middle. Ditto the half placket cotton twill jumpsuit which was a snug (but not too snug) fit but which looked to much like a work overall to me.

In better news and having made an emergency order as I am off on a city break at the weekend, I ordered the cardinal red pleated poplin skirt which I love, the gingham patch pocket denim blue trousers which will look fab as long as I keep the waist band on the waist and not lower, and the light blue chambray shirt which I am unsure of because of the lack of shoulder seams which means I am not sure it sits right.

I don’t know if it is menopausal waist or Toast but the waists in most of their clothes err on the side of small. I don’t find this in other brands though.

Hi @oddandelsewhere , I have ordered from Plumo and I think a few of us have over the years. They are slo to dispatch, yes, and also slow to refund. I have got some little gems from them though, including through their Plumo Studio range. They are a one off and small business so I do like to support them albeit some of their prices seem steep.

ToastCosILoveIt · 24/07/2025 16:11

I meant to say that I also sent straight back the forest green smock top with boat neckline. This top ticks all of my boxes in theory, but the reality was that it felt big and shapeless and the colour as faded a bit, making it look way cheaper that the price.

Primrosespaw · 24/07/2025 16:39

@ToastCosILoveIt I have just returned the green boatneck top. Really not as nice as on the website. It is the first item of toast clothing I have returned. I usually have a pretty good sense for online shopping from toast now.

AsI had got a refund on the top, I decided to splash on the Helena R cornflower blue bead necklace I have had my eye on. It really is a beauty. Really wasn’t fissed by anything I saw in store from the new job clothes wise.

Countmeout · 24/07/2025 16:47

Thanks @ScottishMouse . I like the look of the shape. I’ll be near a Toast shop in the middle of August and will look out for it.

ToastCosILoveIt · 24/07/2025 16:51

@Primrosespaw , that’s really funny as I’ve had that necklace in my basket for a while but haven’t progressed it. I see it is stocked in my local Toast store so might take a look. I like the red version too which is more expensive for some reason.

IlovePond · 24/07/2025 17:23

@Countmeout - thanks for the sample info. The date I saw was for Llandeilo, which is very annoying for me! I can just about persuade DH to go to Somerset for the weekend, (we even did a day trip once 🙀), but Wales would be a step too far.

I think they should have these sales in both locations really and another London pop up would be fantastic!

@ToastCosILoveIt that's really belpful, thank you. I just need to be more patient!

I'm falling a little bit out of love with Toast too, really only the dresses fit me well these days and as I like sleeves at least to the elbow there isn't much for me to choose from.

I did have one stand out buy from the sale, the ribbon print viscose dress which is lovely and a really good fit, but I'm keeping it for a wedding so haven't worn it yet. My quest for nice everyday clothes continues.

Stravaig · 24/07/2025 20:34

@oddandelsewhere I've ordered from Plümo a few times, going back many years, not recently though. Echoing @ToastCosILoveIt , I've found them slow, and had to chase refunds, but always got there in the end.

Their summer sale was worded oddly - 'The Final Sale now 70% off' - so I thought maybe they were closing? However they've just promoted 'First Arrivals early Autumn 25' and the new drop is online, so it all seems to be go. I wouldn't be pre-ordering anything though, just in case.

ScottishMouse · 24/07/2025 21:05

Has anyone found refunds slow at the moment? I posted two returns last week and they were delivered on Saturday, but no refunds yet. That seems unusually slow for Toast. I’m waiting for a lot of money to go back into my credit card, and I need it to buy a new washing machine - joy! - so I may need to change them tomorrow.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 24/07/2025 21:35

@ScottishMouse overall my refunds have been really quick, my last one was posted back Monday and I had the refund notice yesterday.
I did have one that took just over a week.

ScottishMouse · 24/07/2025 21:45

Thanks @Theteapotsbrokenspout. My sale ones were all super quick - usually 48 hours from posting - so this does seem slow. I will give it another day and then send a message I think.

ScottishMouse · 24/07/2025 21:48

Ha ha! They are listening to us. Just this minute received a refund email for one of my two returned orders!

ScottishMouse · 26/07/2025 16:00

A question for anyone who owns the navy cotton linen waistcoat. I bought it and love it. But….what do you wear it over/with?
Bottoms are not a problem, it goes with lots. But most of my t-shirts and shirts are loose and boxy as that’s how like tops to be, so they bunch up underneath it or the sleeves are too wide. It doesn’t look good to me over dresses with collars, and I have no other dresses. I tried it with a fitted tee that I usually only wear as a winter layer under a sweater and that looked a bit weird. It looks good on its own, but I want it be a versatile workhorse and I am kind of stumped by it. I’m not happy keeping something that won’t earn its keep, so I need to figure out what to wear it with or return it.

MiracleToast · 26/07/2025 19:39

@ScottishMouse unrelated to the waistcoat but was it you that tried/purchased the new linen wrap jacket in anthracite? I was wondering about the sizing.

ScottishMouse · 26/07/2025 20:15

Yes it was me @MiracleToast. I went for my usual Toast size - medium. I did go to the store and try both small and medium. Both fitted but I preferred the way the medium looked and wanted to be able to fit layers underneath. Had a big discussion with two staff members, who both also had it, and both said they went with the bigger of two sizes that fitted them. Hope that helps.

MiracleToast · 26/07/2025 20:57

Thank you so much @ScottishMouse that’s really helpful.

Countmeout · 27/07/2025 08:49

I bought the brass long sleeve T . The colour is an olive green/khaki which is grand as it will go with lots. The material is not as the Francis T’s , but substantial. The sleeves are very long but I like that. Sizing - definitely bigger than the Lia and Cleo T’s. I bought medium whereas in them I had to go to a large to accommodate my bust. (wanted a loosing fit). Took 2 goes to get the sizing right although I did look at the measurements.

mizu · 27/07/2025 09:24

@Countmeout@IlovePond re sample sale, Llandeilo is 2.5 hours from me so I am tempted to do a day trip as it’s a lovely place. Plus I will have dropped off DD1 at Heathrow for her year abroad the day before so may need some TOAST retail therapy 😁

applecatchers36 · 27/07/2025 09:28

ScottishMouse also got the Navy waistcoat. Good point about year round versatility. Agree it looks good with trousers, jeans. Think I would wear with tighter fitting long sleeved t-shirts and base layers. Could experiment with shirts but maybe this wouldn't work due to arm size issue?
