Hi,

Here’s a new thread!

@IlovePond Thank you for the in-person reviews x

Sadly the neckline of the dress looks too high for me - I don't like anything cutting higher than my collarbone, it's such a nuisance. Tempted by the men's shirt as a loose summer coverup, but bothered by the lack of a yoke - oversize would hang better with.

I quite often ponder the solid colours at Seasalt, and sometimes a check, but very rarely the florals, and never the stripes.

I thought from the website they offered lots of Petite lengths/sizing, is that not true?

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 29/07/2025 21:23

@IlovePond thanks for the links, I shall be near a Seasalt on Thursday so I shall go and see what they’ve got. I got a nice linen dress from there a couple of years ago but nothing other than basics since.

IlovePond · 29/07/2025 21:24

I actually like things longer rather than shorter @Stravaig - and I have always disliked ‘midi’ lengths on me, so having Seasalt’s skirts be longer is a good thing when it happens!

I don’t think I have ever bought anything from them online, but I am sure you are right about the different lengths.

@IlovePond Sorry, I misread it as a complaint, and was confused :)

IlovePond · 29/07/2025 21:43

@Stravaig - I see! No, I meant it as a good thing! The fact that Toast clothes are sooo long on me is a definite plus in my book!

(The ridiculously long crotches on trousers are a different matter!)

Oh my! There are some really lovely new things popping up. I have added about 10 things to my wishlist!

Stravaig · 31/07/2025 08:43

@IlovePond I like long skirts and dresses too, elegant flowing styles, sleek, but easy to stride or swish in. These gathered-waist midi years have been a trial. (I best not try the thread with any further rants about dropped crotches :)

Stoic123 · 31/07/2025 14:16

Had a little browse of the new stuff. New colours of the gorgeous wool cashmere wrap scarves.... but not the winter white I have been yearning for. The wait continues.

Stravaig · 31/07/2025 14:55

About to look at the new drop, but just as I enter, big appreciation for the Lady in the Leaves, who is both older, and not using any weird props :)

Stravaig · 31/07/2025 15:13

Gosh, what a gorgeous dreamy palette they've created. I can discount most of it on too-high-neckline grounds, but you're all going to look lovely in those botanical shadow and painted tweed prints 😍.

AFingerofFudge · 31/07/2025 15:28

I’m feeling slightly less in love with Toast this year and some of that is down to their prices. I know it sounds a bit dramatic but I can’t let myself love the painted tweed cotton linen skirt when it’s £275 😭

I have developed a bit of a love for Oliver Bonas recently and have bought this lovely top (I bought the skirt too but it’s gone back as it’s too long!)

neveradullmoment99 · 31/07/2025 16:08

I love Oliver Bonas! Their ships are so colourful! Much more reasonable prices!

ScottishMouse · 31/07/2025 16:10

The new palette is chef’s kiss! Popped in at lunchtime to have a look and came away with two things -
Heathery sweater in oatmeal - this is the same as a few seasons back, where there was a mint green and dark orange and something else, though I think the wool is a little lighter. I sized up to L as I like my knitwear oversized, but M also fitted.
Binding check skirt - the fabric is beautiful to the touch, and this will go with so much. I stuck with my normal bottom half size S, which means it is a little bigger on the waist than the fine stripe pleat skirt which I had to go up to M in. It would also look lovely with the matching shirt.
I tried the white seersucker shirt but the shape was terrible on me - too fitted on the bust and then too flared. I also tried the donegal tank in graphite, which is lovely but I am realising I find tanks/waistcoats hard to style.
I was hoping to see the moss yellow cashmere wool bandana as I think the colour could be ace if it is just the right shade, but they only had the olive.
I also saw the new olive & black crinkle cotton dress and skirt, beautiful fabric. I was as tempted to try these but had to remind myself I am not a big fan of the crinkle cotton.
I have loved the last two drops, a lot of the pieces are right up my street. I have been trying to build up a wardrobe with less colour, as I find too many colours and patterns overwhelms me in choosing what to put on in the morning. It is now virtually all white/ecru/grey/navy/black with a few pops of rust/orange, and I’m delighted with this. I had a few gaps to fill and some birthday vouchers to spend, but now I am going to need to take a break and enjoy putting together outfits from what I have for a while.

mizu · 31/07/2025 17:09

@ScottishMouse it all sounds lovely, you’ve prompted me to go and have a look at the new bits.

Gonegrey31 · 31/07/2025 17:45

Stoic123 - you might like the Rise&Fall women's cashmere/merino bandana in buttermilk (it is quite white) - it is also a generous size for a bandana. They also do proper size big shawls/wraps. Lovely quality and not Toast prices !

MiracleToast · 31/07/2025 20:03

Good news @ScottishMouse —that jumper looks so dreamy, I wonder if it’s the same as a pale lilac heathery one I have which was from a while back now, it’s still in such great condition. I immediately thought of you when I saw the binding check combo! Glad you found some nice new things. I have put the pecan cashmere wrap at the top of my winter wish list! It will go with my old toast coat a dream! Did you happen to see it in store? I wondered if the colour was true to the photos.

ScottishMouse · 31/07/2025 20:29

@MiracleToast this is slightly worrying that you know me well enough to think of me when you see a particular Toast piece!!
I didn’t see any scarves at all apart from the olive bandana I’m afraid. The pecan colour looks lovely though.

MiracleToast · 31/07/2025 20:34

😅😂 @ScottishMouse

ScottishMouse · 31/07/2025 20:34

@MiracleToast the jumper is the same as one from a few years ago, and I remember that came in three colours - I had a rusty orange one, which I later sold as it was too small, there was also a kind of minty green, and there was one more. Maybe it was the lilac one you have. It had the same stitch detailing at the shoulders as this one I’m pretty sure.

MiracleToast · 31/07/2025 20:44

Sounds like it might be it, it was at first a bit scratchy? Lambs wool I think, but softened over time and is one of my best lasting jumpers so far. I’m hoping to make it to an actual shop soon to try a few things on. Something to look forward to. Hope you enjoy your lovely new things : )

Has anyone got this bag?
https://www.toa.st/collections/womens-bags-belts/products/bleu-de-chauffe-leather-bag-black
I saw what I thought was a smaller version in the Edinburgh store today, but there is only one size online. The pictures on the model make it look like it is a fairly decent size, but in store it was very small - much more like the Kate Sheridan mini pop bag for example, whereas the photo in the link looks more like the size of the Kate Sheridan tab bag that Toast had earlier in the year in a burgundy colour. The measurements given online also don’t seem like they match the photo, they seem more like the measurements of the one I saw. Is it a weirdly taken photo…maybe the model is so tiny the bag looks bigger? Or are there two versions but only one online? Or am I just losing my mind?

ScottishMouse · 31/07/2025 20:49

Yeah, that could be the one @MiracleToast. I think the wool in this one is a bit lighter weight and maybe a bit less scratchy.
I am planning on wearing the skirt tomorrow, maybe just with a white tee. It is a year round fabric for me.

ScottishMouse · 01/08/2025 19:46

Some photos of my new things….also for an opinion…
I have mentioned before how much my shape has changed in perimenopause. I have put on a lot of weight in my middle (and boobs) and I hate it. But I think I may overcompensate by buying things too big in order to hide. Did I buy the heathery sweater too big? I sized up and am afraid it looks too big now. To compare, I have also tried the skirt on with an old favourite Harley sweater, which I have not worn in a couple of years as it feels too fitted for comfort (psychological comfort not physical comfort). I hate anything clinging anywhere, but which looks better? Should I swap sizes in the new heathery sweater for one size down? Thanks ladies.

Think the neater jumper is better. Gorgeous skirt!

Stravaig · 01/08/2025 20:05

I think you look great in both! The dark sweater comination looks neater, but the beige as if it feels snugglier.

So, superficially, yes, the beige is too big/making you look bigger; however psychological comfort is also important (possibly more so, for me); plus I think you have to factor in colour too: if you were wearing oversized charcoal, and fitted beige, the effect might reverse - the lighter colour is more prominent irrespective of sizing.

(Sorry for appalling sentence construction, it is a day of very little brain, but I so relate to horror of sudden squishy front and middle x )
