I need to buy an outfit for a wedding so I was interested to see this Guardian article. But dear God the first one they list can only be described as a sack! Wedding guest outfits

Looks like what they might have dressed a witch in to burn her on the stake.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 06/06/2025 16:41

The first is obviously the worst (cue various people coming along to say how marvellous it is and that we don't recognise fashion), but can't say it gets much better as you go through the article - nearly all vile.

DollopOfFun · 06/06/2025 16:42

Most of them are pretty hideous, was the writer a bit pissed I wonder?

W0tnow · 06/06/2025 16:42

That is absolutely hideous.

Gettingbysomehow · 06/06/2025 16:42

It's definitely sack cloth.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/06/2025 16:42

There are some very nasty dresses here. The gold one is particularly frightful.

Lunaballoon · 06/06/2025 16:46

And the pink shoes! 😳

All those dresses are hideous.

Decapitatedsausage · 06/06/2025 16:52

The last gold one is horrific, What sort of weddings does the poor deluded author of that article attend??!!

Haha! That is really bad. Even for normal day wear. Never mind a wedding. And with the shoe?
It looks like Grayson Perry if he was banned from the haberdashers.

Evenstar · 06/06/2025 17:00

It says at the bottom that the author has been delving into style for a decade, I fear she has delved beyond the bottom of the barrel and hit the earth’s core.

I am 60 and perhaps not her target audience, but I have been to many weddings and you would stand out and not in a good way in nearly all those outfits.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 06/06/2025 17:12

@Lunaballoon fuck!!! the ankle socks!!! 😳😳😳

Blarn · 06/06/2025 17:14

They are all henious.

ETA: I know that s&b on mn is very friendly and lots of us understand that wedding guests are not wearing the same things as they did 15 years ago for example, weddings tend to be more relaxed now. But has the writer of the article ever been to a wedding? Who would wear any of that to a wedding?

BikkieTime · 06/06/2025 17:19

It's....editorial 😅

Not many to my taste but I do think it's nice to see suggestions for wedding outfits which are contemporary and also lots in natural fabrics.

I would have to disagree with you - I think the Commot gold dress further down is even worse 😆😆😆. Apart from a couple of dresses which are just about ok, They are all ridiculously horrible. I assume the person who wrote the article had been drinking quite heavily.

Yes to this ^
I don’t know what kind of weddings this journalist usually attends.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/06/2025 17:57

I looked at the writer's name and decided she is a 28 year old 'intern' whose daddy has a lot of money and who has never had to do a proper day's work in her life. She has vodka for breakfast and otherwise survives on melon balls and cocaine. She wouldn't actually wear any of these dresses herself and she laughs about the shit she 'writes' with her pals, over Bellinis in Sloane Square.

GarlicMile · 06/06/2025 17:59

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie 😂

pictoosh · 06/06/2025 18:01

That is some collection of horrible dresses, right enough.

The pink one from Free People is lovely if I had the figure (I don't). The rest, terrible.

dudsville · 06/06/2025 18:03

I don't like the dress, but I would so much rather see this than the typical choices.

thisfilmisboring123 · 06/06/2025 18:08

😂😂

Are they on the wind up? Or pissed?

lifemakeover · 06/06/2025 18:10

And this thread is why we need the laughing reaction back! Some excellent observations here.

The first one is awful. Lots of the smocked dresses look like they are from Sainsbury's (nothing wrong with that at all, but they don't look special) and many of the rest looks like they've come from a toddlers dressing up box (although I quite like the flamenco vibes of the green striped one).

TiredofTheirCrap · 06/06/2025 18:14

It's giving... giving Friar Tuck...

mondaytosunday · 06/06/2025 18:17

Most of them are hideous. It’s almost so bad as to be a wind up.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 06/06/2025 18:17

I don't like it but I've seen far worse on wedding guest threads.

The same brand has these, which are rather nice.
