Wedding guest outfit, seriously?

I need to buy an outfit for a wedding so I was interested to see this Guardian article. But dear God the first one they list can only be described as a sack! Wedding guest outfits

The me and em and aligne dresses are the only 2 I would vaguely consider.

Most of them say beach holiday at best or are just hideous.

I wouldn't wear any of those to wedding least of all number 1. Some are ok as a day dress but most are hideous & look quite frumpy. I'd not feel dressy enough for a wedding.

The first one I agree is hideous, but I can't actually see what is wrong with most of the others. It seems wedding attire in the UK is different to what it is here!!! I can't imagine what many of you would wear to a wedding.
