Fuck what I can I wear to this wedding?

Son getting married this summer. Her mum is 6ft and slender. She's going to look incredible as MOB

I am short, fat (22-24) and with massive boobs. Like huge!

Feeling a bit panic stricken now.
Don't even know what I want to wear let alone find it.

I like patterns but don't want to look like upholstered armchair.
Like most colours, complexion is fair, mousy hair.

No overt cleavage on show. Calves also fecking hug3 so not too short.

Maybe hat. But I look silly in anything small because of massive boobs and tummy.

Arse also size of a small country.

I am perfectly happy with my size mostly, certainly no motivation to starve. But wtf am I going to wear? I'm going to let him down by looking fucking awful. I jus5 want something chic and comfortable.

Budget - not bothered. I was going to look at bombshell but they gone bust. All the MOB/MOG stuff seems to be for thin elegant Carole Middleton types. Love Carole btw. But I need something for a Miriam Margoles shape.

I'm not a dress wearer, short and a massive humongous tummy and had to go to a wedding last year.

So first thing I'd do is sort your shape wear to give you the silhouette - I got the slip from m&s, teamed it with the knickers and I didn't feel sucked in as I thought so fairly comfortable.

Then I ordered a lot of dresses online and was surprised at how many plus size midi dresses there were. Debenhams were great as had lots of boutique types selling through them. Also curve wow, Evans and Roman.

Good luck!

Clare Watkins stylist on instagram is plus size and petite, she always looks beautiful.

I think the outfit and accessories are only half a look, good skin, make up, hair and nails go a long way too.

Just had a nosy on her page and she has some lovely dresses, definitely worth a look at her page.

@MyNewCat very nice!

I know you said you're happy with your size but could this be the wake up call for your health?

Grandchildren possibly in the next decade?

Between now and the summer you could lose between 3 and 5 stone easily and then you'd have a much wider choice of outfits to choose from.

Oh do bugger off, dear. She already said losing weight isn't happening right now. This is Style and Beauty, not the weight loss thread, so lets focus on making her look as amazing as possible for this wedding, she can lose weight on her own schedule if she wants to.

@dumpydumpydumpdump

if you like Bombshell, have you thought about Vivienne of Holloway?

https://www.vivienofholloway.com/women-c70/dresses-c10/grace-dress-c190/vivien-of-holloway-grace-roses-in-bloom-red-dress-p4700

I think this is my favourite suggestion so far, it feels the most special.

Thanks so much for all the kind suggestions and sweet comments about not comparing. Scarlett and Jo looks especially good and I'm hoping Katya wildman may do a couple of summer numbers. I'll look at that stylist too.

And the poster that said why not lose weight - what part of not happening did you not get? Tell you what, you go 'easily' lose 4 stone and then make your fortune telling the world how! Confused

I just here to look at the pretty dresses but lots of people have success with weight loss injections. I’m not saying you should try them but just in case you’re interested.

Oceangrey · 05/01/2025 21:42

I'm 5'3 and a size 14/16 and a J/JJ cup.
If you do like anything from 100 Stars, the S/M size there fits me so I reckon the size up would fit you - I just bought one of the Abbi dresses in the sale and its very flattering.

I like this pattern for a wedding although I got the navy marble to wear for work.

Feels a bit like something a 70s Demelza would go for?

Primula Black Abbi Dress

Inspired by the Dutch Old Masters. A blooming bouquet of primroses, auriculas, and polyanthus flowers in a stunning range of bold colours. The detail in this print is spectacular!A timeless addition to the OHS collection.  A classic comfortable wardrob...

I love these items from Marina Rinaldi, in emerald green, like your dream clothes! I would also buy some of their jeans and casual tops for the bit before hand. Don’t bother with a hat. Just get a really good haircut. I really messed up my clothes for mydaughters wedding by buying a dress too small and hoping I could diet into it. I didn’t and had to buy something else last minute. In fact I bought 3 dresses and returned none. Bitterly regret it . I good thing in my actual size would have been so much better.Havea lovelytime

You aren't hideous!
Wear something fabulous. I know people go on about the dress wearing you but if your figure isn't the current fashion, just go your own way.
I think trouser suits can look crap because you see the belly at the point the jacket cuts you off . Smart trousers look odd with a low belly whereas skirts and dresses skim over this. Velvet jumpsuits seem to suck you in because of the line and density of fabric. My black and dark green Asda versions get many compliments . Maybe a summer colour one will work?

Shop the sales now whilst party wear is cheap.
Have a lovely time.

This is style and beauty, not weight loss. The OP can start a different thread if she wants weight loss advice (which she's already said she doesn't).

Sgreenpy · 06/01/2025 01:25

Invest in good underwear. Then a wrap style dress will probably suit you best.
I'd suggest a strong single colour (check with the bride/groom what the colour palate is for the day itself). Get a nice bag, hair accessory and quality (and comfortable) shoes.
Navy, Purple, Green, go well with nude accessories.
Get a statement necklace or earrings & bracelet.
Above all else enjoy the day x

PlanetJungle · 06/01/2025 06:01

Came on here to say my friend is about a size 22 and wears dresses from Seasalt - she always looks fabulous, there's loads of lovely glamorous dresses on this thread, so I'm sure you'll find something stunning - congrats to your son and his fiance - hope you all have a fantastic day!

I have been thinking about my style.

I think I am Demelza meets Tirzah Garwood life meets 70s Laura Ashley via a good Boden pattern.

So now I'm thinking a decent coloured dress with a whimsical feather fascinator and great bag and (flat) shoes

@namechangeGOT soladarity sister! Thanks for posting, take care of your precious self.

Sounds like a good plan. Now all you need is a fabulous painting of you hanging in a portrait gallery somewhere post wedding Garwood style but your own mash up!

MintSass · 06/01/2025 07:45

Christ. Every thread posted by anybody who dares to be overweight descends into the same boring, insulting debate. Always from a place of “concern”. No, you’re not concerned about a stranger on the internet whose lifestyle you have no clue about, you just hate people being fat because it disgusts you.

Would definitely recommend Scarlett & Jo, and invest in a comfortable but good quality bra.
My mum is a similar build to OP and wore a Scarlett & Jo dress to my wedding, she looked phenomenal and it was so lovely to see her feel confident and wearing something fashionable, not hiding away in a shapeless sack because she has the nerve to be overweight.

@Vitriolinsanity because she’d look like a 14-year-old in an American prom movie

No, she’d look like a woman with a flower on her wrist. This thread has been ridiculous.

Op: Please help me find a dress. I am happy with my weight and am not looking for weight loss tips.

Mumsnetters: you hate yourself and must take injections to lose weight.

Randomers like yourself: I hate every suggestion others have made and I’m going to be really weird and rude about it.

dumpydumpydumpdump · 06/01/2025 11:51

@Oceangrey yup that's gorgeous! Will take a good look
