Fuck what I can I wear to this wedding?

Son getting married this summer. Her mum is 6ft and slender. She's going to look incredible as MOB

I am short, fat (22-24) and with massive boobs. Like huge!

Feeling a bit panic stricken now.
Don't even know what I want to wear let alone find it.

I like patterns but don't want to look like upholstered armchair.
Like most colours, complexion is fair, mousy hair.

No overt cleavage on show. Calves also fecking hug3 so not too short.

Maybe hat. But I look silly in anything small because of massive boobs and tummy.

Arse also size of a small country.

I am perfectly happy with my size mostly, certainly no motivation to starve. But wtf am I going to wear? I'm going to let him down by looking fucking awful. I jus5 want something chic and comfortable.

Budget - not bothered. I was going to look at bombshell but they gone bust. All the MOB/MOG stuff seems to be for thin elegant Carole Middleton types. Love Carole btw. But I need something for a Miriam Margoles shape.

Don't worry what she looks like. Can you research a personal shopper? Also a new really supportive bra can work wonders.

Collette78 · 04/01/2025 19:22

I probably wouldn’t suggest patterns, they can be difficult to wear.

If you are fair skinned Cobalt blue or an Emerald green work well (green is also supposed to be lucky for weddings)

You don’t have to show loads of cleavage but a little can be nice, agree about a great bra though.

Nc54684 · 04/01/2025 19:22

People won’t be comparing you and her. They will be checking your face to see if you are glowing with pride and joy.

who else is your style inspo of a similar body shape?

mitogoshigg · 04/01/2025 19:22

Take yourself to Hobbs, I found something suitable for DD's (I was mob, mog couldn't care less about what she was wearing but ex was bringing size 8 gfConfused) i looked size 18, it's not disguisable, but it did make me as good as possible and was super easy to wear

GreyBlackBay · 04/01/2025 19:24

You need a really good bra. Lifting them into the correct position will give you more shape and help clothes fit properly.

Would you go to John Lewis for a personal shopper? Just to get an idea.

JimHalpertsWife · 04/01/2025 19:25

Empire line would suit a large bust - can always have a small lace peice sewn into the cleavage here if you felt it was needed.

Doesn't have to be this exact dress but this style.

I agree re empire line. Also fit and flare is flattering.

That’s a really nice dress on that link, beautiful colour too.

dumpydumpydumpdump · 04/01/2025 19:29

I really don't want to go to a personal shopper. High street has so little in plus size. It would just be embarassing.

Hobbs don't do my size do they?

I don't think I have any style icons. I always quite like what Kate Middleton wears but she's not my size at all. What I'd like to wear would be something like wgatsername in poldark wore at the end of the series, flowing green velvet and boots.

But it's a summer weddding, she's a red haired 10 at most and it's not 1800 so I'm a bit screwed there.

Katya Wildmam who designed the dresses for Bombshell has set up a new company, you may be able to get something you like from her new company: katyawildman.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopA5P346TDZgAtBuGzFTbOi4SFUihikPPrRsZ--euWrgASbqHJa

I would suggest a nicely tailored trouser suit. A bit of nonchalance and structure but not the typical dress.

dumpydumpydumpdump · 04/01/2025 19:30

@JimHalpertsWife that is lovely actually

My mum (5ft 5in, size 24), for my wedding bought a bridesmaid dress from the place I bought my wedding dress from (not the same one as my bridesmaids had, obviously) and had it altered by their seamstress, so it fit her perfectly. She also got fitted for a bra and wore that to the fittings. She said she felt amazing and she looked it as well!
Could you maybe ring round some local bridal boutiques and see if they'd be open to doing something like that for you? They fit women of all shapes, sizes and colourings so could be a fountain of knowledge!

dumpydumpydumpdump · 04/01/2025 19:32

@crowgift thank you but I don't want to be the loser who can't find a nice dress and also jackets don't work well with boobs, am too short for them to sit right. Nobody makes petite in size massive.

What about a tailored suit? I was size 20-22 when I got married. Every 'wedding dress' I tried on made me feel like a mound of clotted cream (if it had a big skirt) or a badly stuffed sausage (if it was more slinky, column-style). I ended up in a lovely tailored suit, a jacket and tunic combo, in jacquard silk, with matching shoes. I felt elegant and beautiful. And I still feel elegant beautiful when I look at the photos. Didn't make me look slim, did make me look good.

dumpydumpydumpdump · 04/01/2025 19:32

@JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn thanks I'll have a look

Tell us a bit about your colouring, hairstyle, do you suit a bold look?

dumpydumpydumpdump · 04/01/2025 19:39

I have short mousy hair going grey, complexion is quite fair. I don't mind going bold.

Maybe check out Vinted for bombshell. Then take it to someone to have it properly fitted. It makes such a difference

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 04/01/2025 19:41

Marina Rinaldi great size range and a good seamstress would ensure a great fit.

Great suggestion. I'd look at local dressmakers too, as you have a strong visual idea of what you'd like.

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 04/01/2025 19:46

Clare Watkins stylist on instagram is plus size and petite, she always looks beautiful.

I think the outfit and accessories are only half a look, good skin, make up, hair and nails go a long way too.

crowgift · 04/01/2025 19:46

A trouser suit can be properly tailored so it accommodates height and boobs (I am short with boobs).
How about this dress: https://www.johnlewis.com/phase-eight-collection-8-charissa-silk-maxi-dress-blue-gold/p111667039
Available in your size and could be taken up if too long.
