A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

The clothes in my "Clueless" wardrobe are so tidy , medium sized and perfect - just like in my imagination!

Beautiful colours & textures again @TosstTastic.
I adore the snowdrop inspiration & the contrasting green & white.!
I'm finding I'm currently getting a lot of wear out of my Free People off-white jeans. It's strange, because I've never really worn white jeans in winter before.
Outfit pic. attached.

I’m really enjoying seeing all the outfit layouts. Lots of great colours and textures. I have the Stylebook app which I think is similar to Whering, I hadn’t used it for a while but luckily hadn’t deleted the items I’d already uploaded. I need to take photos of my me-made items, usually I just find something similar online if I haven’t got an image but that won’t work for things I’ve made.

@netcam I absolutely love knitwear, and you’re right we seem to be in it for months! I decided to branch out from jeans the last couple of days. The jumper didn’t really work with the denim dress yesterday but I was cold! And today I didn’t actually wear two pairs of boots and two tops - I went for the short boots and the black top. When I have a couple of options for the same outfit I usually put them on one style board rather than creating multiples.

@Netcam I have uploaded maybe one wardrobe-full and am currently at 106 items so far 😱and thanks to you and @Cantonet for the lovely words.

Today's effort at keeping warm (missing from the picture: black scarf, black ear muffs, black gloves and a very bright pink nose and cheeks!)

@SheSawSeaShore I like your idea of putting slightly different options on the same board.

AgathaMystery · 09/01/2025 21:41

I absolutely love every outfit posted. I’ve surprised myself by enjoying the process of uploading clothes. I’ve been school nursing the past couple of days so v practical outfits for me. Nothing glam.

Love your style @SheSawSeaShore. I used to live in DMs when I was a teenager and in my 20s. I have foot issues these days so can only wear a few types of shoes.

I agree that knitwear is special, there's something about all the different colours, textures and patterns of wool or cashmere that I love.

I'm still wearing my orange Bosie jumper and keep stroking it, the wool is so soft. I'm still not bored of this outfit even though I've been wearing it all week. There's something I really enjoy about being able to wrap myself up in wool in the winter. Maybe I was really meant to be a sheep!

Actually I often wear wool t-shirts and dresses in summer too.

I'm loving all these posts of different outfits on the app, keep them up everyone. Nice to see people trying different combinations of clothes out. I often do that when I'm deciding what to wear, I put lots of different things on a board until I've put together something I like.

Just adding a different couple of outfits I wore in the New Year when I last went out and met up with people outside my immediate family.

More interesting since I've been WFH wrapped up in the same wool since I've been back at work after the holidays.

Jigsaw black cotton velvet jeans with Falke softmerino tights underneath, Dilling blue merino roll neck, John Lewis black cashmere edge to edge cardigan, Finn Comfort Boots, Jigsaw green double faced wool coat.

Celtic & Co raspberry alpaca/silk/wool cardigan, Celtic and Co green geelong wool dress, Falke raspberry softmerino tights (I have these in various colours), Finn Comfort Boots.

@Cantonet what brand is your coat please?

DontNeedAnyMoreClothes · 10/01/2025 11:47

Great thread! I'm hoping it will help me figure out which of my clothes work for my changed lifestyle as a newly disabled person.

Today's outfit - for a hospital appt - is an ancient denim dress from Asda, ancient blankety scarf from Monsoon, black tights, DM style Rieker ankle boots and statement earrings.

@outofideas2 it's A Uniqlo Down trench coat. It's currently in the sale though & appears to be sold out online unfortunately. Its so easy to wear being warm, neutral & lightweight.

Outfit of the day attached. Black monochrome with my old DKNY fur.
I'm trialing a new vest ( from eBay)made from silk & cotton. As an alternative to the Brora lace edged thermals I've had for years.

Cantonet · 10/01/2025 15:47

@DontNeedAnyMoreClothes I'm sorry your circumstances have changed so drastically. You do look very cosy & ideally dressed for hospital visiting. Layering is definitely the thing as it's often so hot & airless inside.

Thank you - the waiting room was freezing, I was so glad of my big scarf.

I used to buy loads in the Monsoon sales around 2002, lots of lovely fabrics and embroidery.
I then dressed my daughter's via the sales in 2005- 2012 that was a logistical exercise tying growth spurts to seasons to bargains!

Always look good for appointments, I saw my NHS notes and the GP noted I was 'tearful but well dressed' . Clearly didn't breech a diagnostic benchmark that time.

Outfit for dog walk, brunch with student child then brief meet up with old friends near student.

Out and about in town today. This is an outfit I often wear, but today it includes two layers of tights and a pair of socks and a camel Uniqlo Heattech gilet under the coat. Feeling pretty toasty.

@tossttastic Monsoon used to do some lovely brocades, jacquards and embroidery. I still have and use a lot of their things from that era (when the warmer / eveningwear months roll around you lot will see I really like metallics, brocade, silk velvets, lamé and so on) that I wear.

I think Monsoon may still be trying for this look now, but I don't think the materials are as good as they used to be.

@Netcam you can count me as the first thread failure. I looked at this thread for reinforcement to not buy any new clothes, fell for your Bosie jumper and have just bought it in the bright blue 😳that wasn't supposed to happen! I agonised over it for a day or two but it is such a great shape and colour and I know it will go with everything that I wear so I stopped trying to resist the inevitable and hit that tempting buy button. Feeling a bit guilty now!

You don't need to feel guilty, this is low buy or no buy, and at least you are buying decent quality in natural materials.

It's a gorgeous jumper, really soft wool and a great shaped roll neck.

I really hope you love it as much as I love mine. When I saw the last one left in orange before Christmas, I couldn't stop myself from ordering it, even though I absolutely did not need another jumper.

Do post a photo when you get it! It will be in your wardrobe by then, so you can pretend you are shopping from your wardrobe!

Thanks for the reassurance! I lost my way with clothes for quite a long time and then made a concerted effort to build a wardrobe that works for my life. It's taken three years of careful buying but i now have everything I need - except that I've been so careful to buy clothes that go with everything else that I have lots of navy / grey / black and it is all a bit safe and dull.

Now I have the basics in place it's maybe ok to invest in a few standout feel-good items like this jumper. It is expensive but now I'm older (mid 40s) I prefer to buy less but spend more for something that I will wear for years. I hope I will get five years' wear from this one, which would justify the cost.

I bought a jumper from Gap a few months ago that was £40 and looked great when it arrived but after one wash it already started to bobble and now it looks tatty and shapeless already. That really feels like money wasted.

And that's how I talked myself into buying a £175 jumper😂will start no spend again now!

IncessantNameChanger · 11/01/2025 12:13

I have bought - two pairs of trainers for ds and Binned two pairs of his

Bought dd three pairs of school trousers and selling three of her school skirts on Vinted.

It's direct in / out and ds can't not have pe trainers or dd no uniform but still a bit guilty. I have sold both jumpers I dismissed after trying on this week on Vinted. I like them but don't love them. I'd rather have five I love than 15 I feel a bit meh about.

Wearing another jumper I haven't worn in a year today. It's lovely so that's a win. I wish I had two wardrobes. One yet to try on and one for things recently back in rotation.

I'm hoping to aim to get rid of about two items a day over the month from my wardrobe. Then I will start taking photos. There's still too much right now.

Netcam · 11/01/2025 13:11

Today's outfit. Still not bored of my Bosie orange jumper, but decided to wear it with a Celtic and Co knitted merino skirt and Falke softmerino burnt orange tights.

It's my last official day of parenting children today as it's DS2's 18th birthday tomorrow, so thought I'd wear a skirt to celebrate 🥳

Loving seeing outfits posted!

That's a beautiful Monsoon scarf. I feel the quality has went downhill (across the high street) and was chatting about this the other day. Can anyone remember when GAP used to do great quality merino? I've still got some from 2010 - 15 in my drawers (handily, gap clothes used to come with a label identifying season/year... May well still do but never buy from there now). What's more, it's still fantastic quality after so much wear, tear and laundered.

I've also got an old Autograph coat that I picked up for around £70 10 years ago - it's 80% wool. You'd be lucky to get any/10% wool in a coat for that price now. 10 years isn't that long and we are surely more clued up on natural fibres than ever before. Such a shame.

ShopMyWardrobe25 · 11/01/2025 13:15

Yesterday's 'frosty out with blue sky' inspired outfit and todays 'need to wear something to wear those cream trousers out' inspired one! Wearing my favourite scarf today. It's huuuuge, weighty, toasty warm and bouncy cashmere (think dog, but without muddy paws!).
