A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

I don't want to distract anyone from Whering but just wanted to say I have Indyx and it's great. Probably the same thing overall! I love the stats and checking my coat per wear as it drops.

I have 223 items but that does include gym gear which is about 40 or 50 things (I go 5 times a week and have leggings/vest top/long sleeve tops and sweatshirts for all seasons of gym temps!) 118 as an average sounds low.

I am on a low buy 2025. I started a big overhaul of my wardrobe last year when I realised my uniform of jeans and hoodie did not reflect me and was not making me happy. So I can buy a few things for the gaps I identified, but hoping to stop the habit of buying my favourite 4 things on my Vinted wishlist when I am pissed! Second hand is better, but it's still over consumption. And if I am not thoughtful I end up with things that don't fit or got with anything else and the wardrobe gets over full again!

SheSawSeaShore · 07/01/2025 20:33

I’ve been dressing for warmth for WFH the last couple of days. Had thermals on under both these outfits!

Both pairs of jeans are old, and the DMs were from Vinted last winter. I’ve finally just about broken them in and figured out how to wear them without them rubbing!

The jumper is from Baujken and the cardigan from Brora in the sale - I love it. My goal
this year is to be more ruthless with decluttering my wardrobe so it only contains things I love.

Wow I love the Whering app. It’s a bit of a Herculean effort to upload it all. I’ve managed 40 items tonight. Can’t quite get to grips with building outfits but here is todays

It was cold in the office today, need to think about layering more tomorrow. Have some jackets I will try style one tomorrow.

Netcam · 07/01/2025 22:51

@SheSawSeaShore, I love your outfits. I don't think there is anything better than a lovely natural fabric jumper, a well fitting pair of trousers or jeans, and some good boots.

It's nice to have other clothes too, but at the end of the day for 2/3 of the year in the UK, that's probably what most of us need.

So I am going to wear a smart black jacket today over a burgandy collared top and grey cords. I am not sure why I don't wear this jacket, so hopefully will have a verdict on it this evening.

ememem84 · 08/01/2025 07:54

I’m joining please! Also on a no/low buy for 2025.

im not working at the moment (cancer treatment. Ick) so am in more casual things day to day. But have had a clear out and realised I have so much lovely stuff!

things I will have to buy:

post surgery bras.

im also allowing myself new clothes if purchased with gift vouchers (which I got a lot of for Christmas!) but saving these until may time when I go back to work.

RazorstormUnicorn · 08/01/2025 08:22

@ememem84 best of luck with the treatment. If you feel well enough cataloguing your wardrobe on one of the apps and building some outfits might be a great distraction project?

Thanks! I’m almost at the end of the chemo - have done 14 of the 16 sessions. Only two more weeks to go and I’m done and move to surgery radiotherapy etc. just a bit over it all now.

i pulled everything oit yesterday after chemo treatment - they give me loads of steroids which make me wired so I had pent up energy - and organised it into categories.

have to start pulling outfits together though.

AgathaMystery · 08/01/2025 10:38

@ememem84 i can’t think of a better use of steroid side effects! Good luck.

Today I’m going to be out in the freezing cold with 60 teenaged girls for 3 hours and then this evening in a warm pub teaching for 3 hours. Hard to build an outfit that works for both!

ememem84 · 08/01/2025 11:15

Todays outfit:

next light wash skinny jeans
white gypsy style top picked up in charity shop
grey oversized chunky cardigan - river island
short brown uggs
huge blanket scarf from primark - why are these so soft?!?!

and the “piece of resistance” today a vintage bridge brown leather cross body handbag. Which was my mums. And I think was one of the first ones dad bought for her either just before or just after they married (in 1976). She hasn’t used it for years so passed it on.

she (the bag)needs a bit of tlc so might spend the afternoon at the stables cleaning her with some saddle soap.

notatinydancer · 08/01/2025 11:38

Yes , I tried this last year , it had a thread.
I got to the end of May 😬

dimthelights · 08/01/2025 13:23

Can I join?! Want to shop my wardrobe for the next six months or so as I lose the last bit of weight I want to drop.

Had a wardrobe review last night with a stylist and have some new outfits out of old clothes. Love this idea!

TosstTastic · 08/01/2025 16:17

Am enjoying this! Have pulled my entire wardrobe apart. Sorted like with like.
Worked out that when stuff works together it's effortless but trying to shorthorn that pattern shirt in is never going to work.

Thank you @ShopMyWardrobe25 - agree things like this do help at the margins. As has getting to grips with the Whering App, although it is slow going. I have five wardrobes full of clothes (I know, I know) so I think that should keep me occupied for a while!

And @Netcam even with the pandemic, my workplace (financial services / The City) has only marginally altered its dress code. The men not wearing ties as often, and more women in flats as opposed to heels, have been the most marked changes.

WillaDeWord · 08/01/2025 18:30

And my outfit today - the first one pulled together on Whering. Plus some brown and gold jewellery - won't be uploading all of that stuff to the app for a while (I like fine and costume jewellery almost as much as I like clothes!).

Fabulous outfit @WillaDeWord . So glamorous. Can I live vicariously through you please, while I'm currently a country bumpkin 😁

@Tosstastic I really love the counterpoint of stripes & checks 😍

Welcome to the newcomers 👋🏼

Attached is my outfit today. Not a good day as one of the progeny is in crisis.

I will have to get things uploaded to the app on the weekend as I am not home when there is natural light at the moment.

So the jacket I wore today having not worn previously was really comfortable and fitted well, no idea why I hadn't been wearing it bar its a little smarter than I needed before starting my new job. Good result!

I'm wfh tomorrow and will try and pick something else I've not worn to style.

Netcam · 08/01/2025 21:29

@Cantonet, I'll join you in living vicariously through @WillaDeWord.

I work in tech and I would probably look ridiculous if I went to the office in glamorous clothes.

I also do a lot of walking in the countryside, so glamorous would not really suit my lifestyle.

But most of my clothes are practical, with the focus on colours I like and natural fabrics. And I wear my favourite clothes every day even when I'm at home.

Welcome to newcomers from me too.

Another day in my Bosie chunky geelong wool orange jumper, Icebreaker black merino trousers and Dilling long alpaca/merino cardigan.

Still not bored, just nice and warm. Actually I love this Bosie jumper, I don't want to take it off!

Five wardrobes, that's incredible. Makes me feel better about what I consider to be my rather large collection of clothes! I'll be interested to know how many items you discover you have.

It's great fun putting the outfits together, isn't it.

This year I'm going to try saving outfits in seasonal lookbooks that I have actually worn that worked well together, so when I can't think what to wear, I can go there for inspiration.

I'm trying to upload my wardrobe to Indyx, it's been v interesting so far but it's slow work. I'm up to 65 items and there is a long way to go still.

I figure if it's not worth the effort of uploading an item then it needs to go.

I had a big style change up over the last 12 months, am in my post meno and post work era, adult DC. I bought and sold a lot on Vinted in 2023/24 and am now really enjoying getting dressed every day, even for home days.

Loving seeing the great outfit boards on here and looking forward to posting some of my own!

I can see that if I bought something new I would be able to see if I could style it with my existing clothes before buying which will be useful.

IncessantNameChanger · 09/01/2025 08:44

Tried on three jumpers this morning. Two have been relegated to my Vinted / donate pile and one I'm still wearing. It's outrageously bobbled but I think it fits OK. I'm going wear, de bobbble and wash. If it bobbles again it will go.

If I do this every morning it takes seconds and I should be a fair few items lighter that aren't that great. There's a reason things just sit there unworn

ShopMyWardrobe25 · 09/01/2025 10:01

Hello Everyone - hope we are all staying nice and warm (-4 here at the moment - layers are on!!)

Steroids are wonderful things @ememem84! You're almost there with the cycles and hopefully the rest of your treatment should feel a breeze in comparison. I like older bags - they have so much character (and even better so if it was one of your mums). Loving the texture on your dress @TosstTastic and your colours/tones yesterday @Cantonet.

I'm finding it a slow process to upload my clothes, but reminding myself it's a marathon and not a sprint. I'm taking a few shortcuts (instead of taking photos, using screen grabs for similar items) and not filling in all fields. I'm adding items as I wear them so good motivation to wear different clothes.

I find that some woollens bobble by merely looking at them @IncessantNameChanger!
