A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

Can I join, please? I am committing to no purchases this year unless needed (and I don't think I'll need anything). I've dusted down the Whering app (last used over a year ago!) and am going to log items and outfits as I go (as opposed to huge task of uploading everything at once).

I've got lots of clothes and rely on the same couple of outfits, because I can't see past the masses of stuff I've acquired. Hoping that by no spending on further clothing and tracking what I'm wearing, it'll be easier to pull new outfits together and also to justify getting rid of clothes I don't wear. Half baked, but it is a plan!

Netcam · 04/01/2025 19:28

Starting with what I'm wearing now, Croft House aubergine seamless saddle shoulder wool jumper, Poetry ink linen & wool slim tapered trousers, Celtic & Co raspberry alpaca/silk blend cardigan.

Top and trousers were Xmas presents from DH, cardigan I bought this winter because I loved the sound of the fabric and it's very soft but also really warm.

I have an Icebreaker merino base layer top, Dilling wool leggings and Pairs Scotland wool socks on too.

I"m moving house soon so have massively decluttered ... and am aiming for not buying anything this year (shoes / clothes / bags). I may have a couple of exceptions - I am losing weight, and whilst i've got a variety of sizes in my wardobe I'm prepared to buy from Vinted if I genuinely outgrow a specific item (bought jeans yesterday); and I have a big birthday later in the year - so perhaps a special outfit.

I found the Whering app too .... so that's my plan for when I pack / unpack!

Netcam · 04/01/2025 19:30

Welcome @ShopMyWardrobe25. I didn't track anything on my Whering App in 2024 either, but started again on 1st Jan.

And here's me warmly wrapped up in it all on this freezing evening.

@July24MJ welcome and congratulations on the weight loss. I'm on a no buy for clothes/shoes/bags 2025 too. I lost some weight in 2024 and replaced most of my trousers, most of which had become a size too big. Good luck with the house move.

Well done on the weight loss @July24MJ (although it can play havoc with a streamlined wardrobe!).

I love your cardigan @Netcam - beautiful colour and style. I'm a sucker for knitwear - thankfully, mainly WFH so lots of opportunity to wear it.

ShopMyWardrobe25 · 04/01/2025 20:26

Clearing out a cupboard and trip to the recycling centre for me today - need for comfortable clothing.

Finisterre Yarrel trousers (muted camo a brown with a little pink), Finisterre jumper and a Rapanui vest top. Pink socks and white high top trainers.

@ShopMyWardrobe25 nice jumper, I love a muted pink and green together. I mainly WFH too and don't put the heating on during the day unless it's absolutely freezing so I tend to wear lots of warm clothes. I only go to the office a couple of times a month and then I'm slightly less wrapped up.

Thank you @Netcam for starting this thread. I'm another that has a knitwear obsession... I have an antique wardrobe that I currently can't fit all my jumpers into. So I can't close the doors & I have piles of jumpers perched on hangers
precipitously. I am though pretty good on e baying any excess. Currently it's mainly trousers that are too big. Or clothes that are too itchy & uncomfortable ( ADHDer here). I've even had to eBay a couple of Varley Vines that itched me. Even though I loved the style.
Here is what I'm wearing today from the Whering App. Brora blue thermals & cashmere pants are over 10 years old. Shoes & bags are second hand eBay ( look like new) . Jumper is Pangaia Cashmere, scarf & hat Tk Maxx Cashmere & coat Mango.

@Cantonet, thanks for posting, it all looks very stylish. I love the look of the Brora cashmere, especially the trousers, incredible they've lasted so long.

That's inspiring since my final purchase of 2024 was this clearance Brora cashmere jumper (pictured here with Brora cords). I've never had one before and decided I wanted to try one before my no buy year starts.

I know what you mean about bulging drawers. I also lost weight this year and took 3 full bin liners full of too big clothes to the local Salvation Army clothes bank.

So I'm hoping now my whole wardrobe is wearable, and as long as I stick to no buy, it should also just about all fit in the space I have.

Mind you, we have 2 chests of drawers as well as a wardrobe each and DH only has one drawer in each chest, I have the rest!

@Cantonet, wondering, with knitwear in natural fibres, what do you do with it once you've worn it, but are intending to wear it again before washing?

I often wear my wool/cashmere jumpers for a week or two before washing. I have a rack that I put worn clothes on for wearing again, but if I have too many things on there at once it starts overflowing.

So I often end up wearing the same outfit for days on end until it's ready to wash, or until I get bored and fancy a change so wash it anyway.

I don't like putting worn clothes back in the wardrobe having had a moth problem in the past.

But sometimes I think I'm quite boring wearing the same outfit for days on end, or at least the same jumper.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 05/01/2025 07:14

With wool jumpers I leave them out on a hanger to air then fold and put back on the shelf as they look and smell like new after 24 hours assuming no spills.

ShopMyWardrobe25 · 05/01/2025 09:20

While I'd be devastated if moths filled their boots on my woollens and silks, I'm in the air it (preferably outside - doesn't need to be warm or sunny) and put it back in the drawer camp.

It's snowing here today (light, but more expected as day continues) - so great excuse for me to layer up (after dog walked and eventually showered).

Really like the cut of the Brora cords @Netcam - especially waist height and double button. They suit you.

I managed to avoid Brora's winter sale - just!!

WillaDeWord · 05/01/2025 09:31

Brilliant. Am joining. Thank you for setting up!

Thanks, I got the cords in the JL Christmas sale. I got a green linen pair in the same style in their summer sale and practically lived in them, so was really pleased to get some cord ones.

I love this idea! I like to take inspiration from what other people are wearing and then think about how I can create something similar with what I’ve already got in my wardrobe. I’m also aiming for a very low buy year, including Vinted as I’ve realised I use the fact it’s second hand as an excuse to buy things on a whim. I want to be much more thoughtful and considered. I started sewing some of my own clothes last year which definitely helps with that as it takes me weeks to finish anything so I have to be really sure I’ll wear it before I start 😆

Anyway, this is what I wore yesterday - jumper was from Vinted, and the boots were new a couple of months ago after much research and I’m hoping will last for years.

WillaDeWord · 05/01/2025 09:43

Yesterday's outfit - one of my go-to outfits of the last few years. Together with a brown suede Furla bag and some gold jewellery (and a slip under the dress to keep me extra warm).

@Netcam I hang any worn knitwear on a separate hanger with a lavender Ancona moth sachet attached. To be honest I'm a mucky pup & make sourdough bread ( end up with floury cashmere) & spill spaghetti sauce/curry down myself regularly. So my jumpers are very frequently washed. I'm a dab hand at removing stains with fairy.

I tend to wear the same trousers for a few days & vary my tops/jumpers. Only because I have so many & I get bored wearing the same things all the time. I also have a few different cashmere beanies & scarfs to change things up a bit.

I store Cashmere in clothes bags as much as possible, so the moths can't get at them. So it generally lasts years.

I've found a local repairer too. Mainly it's the seams/stitching that seems to split.

Brora is such a good brand, but strictly only bought on sale for me. Mainly the lace edged thermals as I've been buying them for years. Your trousers are lovely.

And I admire your passion for wool and natural fabrics.

It's nice to have snow, isn't it. We've just been out with the dog and I managed to give my very muddy dog walking trainers a good clean in the snow.

Interesting that some of you put woolens back after wearing. Mine all live in zip lock bags after the moth devastation so I'm not sure I'd do that.

Maybe I'm just destined to wear the same outfit for multiple days. I WFH mostly anyway so it doesn't really matter. It just means I don't have a new 'shop from wardrobe' outfit to post on here very often.

But I'm sure you'll all have lovely outfits to share too.

I'm up for this, I tried not to buy new clothes during 2024 and was pretty successful. To satisfy my cravings I used Vinted, but sold stuff to buy, so didn't spend a huge amount on second hand clothes either.

I'm going to try and do this for other things, such as household objects etc. I really. Red to curb my spending this year too

Netcam · 05/01/2025 09:53

@SheSawSeaShore, welcome, nice fairisle and I love a jumper with a long skirt and ankle boots. Very impressed with you making your own clothes.

Gorgeous outfit, looks very glamorous! Really nice mustard coloured dress, is it wool?
