A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

It’s not wrong if you will wear it a fair bit!

anon2022anon · 26/07/2025 06:49

Love number 3 @Princessfluffy , let us know if they work for you!

@Cantonet did the surgery go okay? Again, I like all of those outfits, but particularly the pink and brown- that would look lovely going into autumn too.

Oasis were absolutely brilliant. Such an atmosphere. I'm carrying on with my month of fun stuff, I turned 40 this week, and spent it in a lush little cottage, next to a waterfall- this is the view from the living room ☺️ no thought given to outfit other than comfy and trainers so linens and a denim shirt.

anon2022anon · 26/07/2025 06:51

@Cantonet if you would wear a black version of that skirt, I have one in my to go pile that I'll happily send you for postage. It's a size large, but I would say 10-12- small 14, with an elastic waist.

Cyclingmummy1 · 26/07/2025 08:14

If you'll wear it, buy it @Cantonet

I've bought my whole year's allowance this month 🫢

Two sleeveless tops and a vest from M& S - all worn.

Vest top and LS t from Baukjen - I'll wear the vest today and the t is for winter.

Two jumpers and a tank top from WS - all winter.

Barrel jeans from River Island - bargain for when it's cooler.

Total money wise was about £250, item wise, 9, and it's filled a lot of gaps/replaced shabby items. I had a shirt on yesterday that's come up in my memories today from 2019...

I need trainers but that's all.

dayslikethese1 · 27/07/2025 05:04

I bought a top off Depop, was influenced by a similar one in the M&S ad; white and floaty with buttons and peplum shape. Whoops 🤭 But at least it was secondhand and under a fiver I guess. I love that patchwork style dress princess great colours.

Cantonet · 27/07/2025 11:54

I've ordered it @Cyclingmummy1. Only because it had already sold out in my size in petite. It seems to be selling out so quickly. Of course it may looks awful on 🤔 I imagine at this stage of the summer it's unlikely to be restocked.
Sounds like a beautiful top @dayslikethese1.
Yes, the surgery went ok thank you. It was just a lot of waiting around as other more important emergencies kept on supplanting ds's treatment. That's so kind of you to offer @anon2022anon. The skirt sounds beautiful, but I think black is really not my colour these days. I used to wear it loads, but now I just find it drains me. I don't even buy black trousers any more. The closest I get is a greyish/black denim.I have a beautiful Jaeger black Wool boyfriend coat that I didn't even wear once last year. I should probably flog it on eBay. I also have several big black cashmere jumpers I used to wear with black skinnies. It was my uniform ( along with the same in navy).
Anyone else finding some more Autumnal tones creeping in to their wardrobe, on cooler days?

The white ruffle cotton skirt has arrived and is absolutely beautiful. Layers & layers of cotton ruffles so it's not see through.
I'm so glad the petite was sold out as it's the perfect length in the standard fitting. I'm also very glad I didn't size down this time. The stated elasticated waist was not ... I reckon I will wear this for years to come

Princessfluffy · 29/07/2025 20:22

Congrats @Cantonetwhat a great skirt, looks like a super addition to your wardrobe!

Princessfluffy · 29/07/2025 20:28

Hope DS is recovering well Cantonet. I went into Anthropologie at the weekend which had all their autumn stuff in, very seductive as autumn is always the bestest time of year for buying new clothes! I don’t really suit autumn shades as I’m definitely best with bright, warm and clear colours, but I wanted to try everything on anyhow. I made do with watching my dd buy a jacket and a hat and her promising I can borrow them…

I would have spilt something indelible down it on its first outing. I salute your cleanliness, @cantonet!

Cyclingmummy1 · 30/07/2025 08:23

I love the skirt @Cantonet and hope you wear it for years to come.

Cantonet · 30/07/2025 20:31

Thank you @Cyclingmummy1..
@SqueakyDinosaur me too. But I'm good at wielding the whitening powder ...
@Princessfluffy i absolutely adore Anthropologie & Free People. I think they're run by the same company? I love visiting ds1at uni in Surrey because Guildford high street has both these stores. Dd1 bought quite a few things from F.P last time we visited. Autumnal shades are definitely my thing & yes you're right. they are very seductive .

Cantonet · 07/08/2025 12:22

Hmm... I'm not doing well on the no buy part of this.
Please tell me I'm not the only one 😳
How are you all?
@Netcam hope all is ok ?
I'm home on my own-some as kids are holidaying in China. I'm the resident dog sitter until the last week of August when I have a week in Mallorca.
Have you all used Whering for your holiday packing planning?

outofideas2 · 07/08/2025 12:49

I broke yesterday and bought three things - some camel coloured trousers (Max Mara so spendy 😬), some black jeans and a little denim shirt with short puff sleeves. I will get lots of use out of them so not feeling too bad, and overall I've been very good this year. All three fit my plan to buy less, but better quality.

Cantonet · 07/08/2025 13:09

Max Mara is so worth it though. I bet the trousers are beautiful. I used to always buy their jackets/coats when I dressed more formally. I really dislike cheap jackets, as they never wore well.
I'm still losing weight, albeit very slowly at the moment so there is little point in buying super expensive items yet.
My buys are mainly Uniqlo as the quality is brilliant for the price & Whistles knitwear. I have the brown satin trousers, they're weighty & don't seem to crease, plus they hang really well. The Whistles knitwear is a brown cotton cardigan that I've been stalking since last year. It's finally ended up in Tk Maxx at a very reasonable price so I've bought it. I'm very susceptible to bargains 😳

SqueakyDinosaur · 07/08/2025 13:51

I bought some green and white stripey Whistles trousers from TK Maxx about a month ago. They ran very badly in the wash so now they are green and pale green stripey trousers, but I still like them, even though I do feel like a 1920s gent at the seaside in them!

Over the last year I have lost quite a lot of weight, and I've also had surgery to fix an enormous incisional hernia, so my shape has changed quite a bit. I'm mostly shopping my wardrobe - particularly pleased that a long black dress in heavy linen now looks really good - sleeveless, v neck, enormous fishtail skirt. I think I bought it about 20 years ago but I barely wore it before I was too fat for it.

dayslikethese1 · 07/08/2025 23:32

Dress sounds lovely dinosaur Autumn colours don't really suit me either but I have been wearing lots of blue lately, maybe because the weather has been fresher/breezier. I've been wearing lots of loose cotton shirts and feeling v comfy and artsy 😆

Cantonet · 08/08/2025 11:30

That dress sounds beautifully dramatic @SqueakyDinosaur. I've also been going through a blue phase @dayslikethese1.How annoying about the Whistles trousers. You wouldn't expect them to run like that. I think colour catchers in the laundry are meant to help prevent this but I've never actually used them.

bendmeoverbackwards · 08/08/2025 21:39

I am not doing at all well at no/low spend. I’m a sucker for summer dresses and keep seeing ones l like. I’ve got a big pile of ‘maybes’, must make a decision and only keep the ones I love and fit properly and return the rest.

SqueakyDinosaur · 08/08/2025 22:57

I've just bought a John Smedley long merino cardigan from eBay. But to be fair, I've just binned a Land's End long merino cardigan from their much-missed outlet shop at Maidenhead. It's been closed for at least 10 years....

Cantonet · 10/08/2025 17:45

Went shopping today & I have to say it's pretty much fatal for anyone at the moment who suits autumnal colours.

Literally everything I tried on looked good.
I ended up buying some incredibly cheap swimwear & shirts/skirt in that warm pinky terracotta colour & a cream crochet costume for £6. All in the sales. Unfortunately i can't find any of my existing costumes & I need some for my Mallorcan holiday.

@anon2022anon
Did you keep the Navy jacket from H&M from the other thread? I tried on the khaki & the darker denim in that style & loved them both. But determinedly sat on my hands & didn't buy said items today.

tonybennscat · 10/08/2025 21:49

Ah @cantonet, that will save me a fortune! I’m a cool summer and look awful in cream, terracotta and brown. Unless it’s bitter chocolate brown.

I’ve rediscovered some old Fatface denim dungarees and I’m loving them at the moment. They are very relaxed and wide legged. I’d love another pair. None to be found in the right size.

anon2022anon · 11/08/2025 07:27

@Cantonet yes I did- H&M have changed their return policies, and I picked it up to return, looked at the receipt, and I was a day out- so fate has intervened and I'm keeping it 😁 I liked both the other colours too. I sized down massively in it, I bought the XS as a size 14.

Cantonet · 12/08/2025 21:58

Oh no @anon2022anon. How absolutely annoying. I do think they're beautiful jackets though & seem to be selling out rapidly. I'm sure you won't regret it.
I think I'm going to order this jacket in Khaki from H&M. It's a cotton Utility jacket & is a little longer than the other cropped one. I tried it on instore & it's perfect
