I had a busy few weeks, and waited for the new thread...I haven't been invited to the big pre Christmas lunch at the Palace...is that tomorrow?
Is it a sit down job or a buffet?

@eggandonion - don't worry about an invitation. I think you can just turn up at the gates of Buckingham Palace wearing appropriate headgear and they let you in. 😉

A certain RF member will apparently not be attending so that'll mean one free place, first come first served and all that!

I hope family members who aren't invited have a lovely fortnums hamper on the way. I would hate to think of them having to rush to Lidl, or bravely loiter in marks for yellow stickers on Christmas Eve.
Actually Sandringham at Christmas sounds exhausting.

It's a Christmas lunch (as I recall from when I was there a few years ago 😉). I don't think royals do buffets. Drinks and canapés maybe but not a buffet.

I'm just at the Palace now, sitting between Kate and William, finishing pudding and waiting for the cheese board, discreetly Mumsnetting under my napkin....
Everyone is carefully avoiding mentioning 'those who are not present', Kate smells delightfully fragrant as you'd expect and William is surprisingly funny. Think the distant elderly relatives are getting a bit tipsy and dangerously naughty on sherry and port and good old Anne is telling us all about the bridge she opened last week...😆😆

Enjoy @Eaumyword although I would always serve cheese the French way which is cheese after the main and dessert to finish. The British serving order is cheese last to go with the port.

Do we have any evidence as to how the royals do it or do state dinners etc only ever have three courses so it isn't an issue?

The burgundy coat is really nice and a good colour on her but the rest of the outfit? Less said the better!

I love canapés.

I always celebrate the use of colour, but I think Sophie hasn't got it right here. I like the coat, though.
