It says deleted, but it was just discussing sizes, sleeve lengths etc.

Actually a bit longer than mid calf - ballerina? Anyway it looks very elegant.

What is the general opinion on C&R clothes on ebay or vinted? I saw a bella skirt I want, but it is quite pricey for an used item. Has anyone purchased "preloved" C&R clothes?

The Vinted link for this dress has gone shows but I paid £150- seller asked £175. I paid the asking price for the other Vinted dress and the Ebay ones. The jacket went to a bidding.

So none of it is cheap but it's all been excellent quality.

Now that I’ve seen and handled one of their dresses, and digested the amount and the quality of the fabric used and how much time and skill must have gone into producing it, my main question is, how on earth did they ever make any money?

I have much more sympathy now for the daughter who took over the company. I can understand why she tried to economise and eventually, I imagine, decided the clothing line just had to go.

My black and white flannel dress which Flo likes is astonishing. Yards and yards of material; fiddly bits to sew in that the front and back of the skirt are flat and the sides are heavily gathered and set on velvet bands; opens by side collar buttons and fully lined. I can't remember what I paid but I think it was around £400.

Yeah and when you factor in that they were (as I remember?) made in the UK and in limited numbers so not much scope for economies of scale - well I can only assume the original owner either had very easy going financial backers or had enough personal money to not need to worry too much about making a profit.

It definitely has the feeling of a labour of love and something bordering on a hobby, rather than a business - attention to detail and a real passion for creating something beautiful, rather than profitable.

Floisme · 08/08/2025 12:48

And I'm guessing her daughter inherited a hobby when what she needed was a viable business? It's funny how it all falls into place now that I've seen one dress. (I have a C&R jacket that's beautifully made but it's not in the same league when it comes to the amount of fabric and detail.)

only one caveat: I only rejoined insta recently and noticed that all of my favourite items are worn by trad wife influencers and the like...oh well :)

May I ask which Instagram accounts are wearing cabbages & roses? I love seeing it worn and styled but struggle to find accounts that do?! Tia

Also there is a brocante at Cowdray I haven’t been before. I’m wondering if it’s worth going and maybe if there could be anyone selling cabbages and roses ?

Edited

Do you mean C&R or the Christi Anna Lomas version? I tried to get some information about the latter, but their pricing is a bit like a lottery. They really need to hire someone who will only deal with customer inquiries and manage the website.

Floisme · 25/10/2025 18:53

It was a dress I saw in a charity shop @mountaincookiemineand it had the Cabbages & Roses label so I assume it was an original C&R from at least a couple of seasons ago.

Rosa121 · 07/11/2025 17:23

I went to the brocante sale today . In case this helps anyone. Absolute waste of 5 hrs driving. I came back with nothing but got there first thing. It’s mostly jersey T shirts … quite a bit of fabric . I wanted dresses …. Size 12 not 8 or 16 .
